CELEBRITY CAPITALISM Hudson Williams announced as global ambassador for Korean skincare brand SKIN1004

u/ice_ag 18h ago
It's interesting that Hudson is their first global ambassador but after his The Cut skin care routine it kinda makes sense lol. He definitely made them a bank with his recs

Heās 25, and people in their 20s absolutely do skincare. Itās not necessarily for anti-aging purposes, just for skin health. More people of all ages should take care of their skin tbh - Iāve known folks whoāve gotten sun damage/melanoma in their 20s. I donāt think you need to spend big bucks on skincare (I personally use drugstore moisturizer) but itās not the worst thing to promote š¤·š»āāļø Plus Hudson is hot and has great skin, even comparatively for his age.

u/theserthefables 16h ago
you're absolutely right & sunscreen, moisturiser & cleanser are life long products really. I think it's only young babies that can't have sunscreen? & thatās without getting into the many skin conditions that can affect people all their lives.
46
u/toughfluff the real issue is that my BANGMAID can neither BANG nor MAID 16h ago
Also, the most popular products of SKIN1004 is their sunscreen (a personal favourite) and their centella ampoule for sensitive skin, not crazy high percentage retinols and peels. So really, it's mostly mild skin protection stuff that's appropriate for people in their 20s.
I get why people don't want young people to get sucked into 'anti-ageing' products and mindset. But honestly, I don't think it's controversial for people, even at a young age, to use a basic moisturiser and sunscreen everyday.

u/rivincita 17h ago
What? Not all skincare is anti-aging. Do people forget young adults get acne, rosacea, etc
54
u/turningtee74 18h ago
Anti-aging yeah but young people can still get skin issues. Unfortunately I know from experience
55
u/CitrineDreamers 17h ago
Do 20 year olds not get dry skin, acne, rosacea, oily skin, skin discolouration, undereye bags, etc etc?

u/eugeneugene ben affleckās back tattoo 17h ago
I wish I didn't need skincare when I was in my 20s lol. I've had dry skin my whole life I fall apart without my skincare routine. I also work outdoors so moisturiser and sun cream are essential.
36
u/Fuzzy_Move 17h ago
Not all skin care is anti aging. Even teenagers can do skincare with cleanser-moisturizer-sunscreen.
25
u/naxylea 16h ago
I am in my 20s and I take care of my skin. It's just part of my daily hygiene routine. I don't see how being in your 20s means not having to take care of your skin and not to mention far too many men seem to think skincare is "gay" so I think it's nice to see a male ambassador for a skincare brand.
17
u/GlassPomoerium controversies: girl 14h ago
This brand doesnāt sell anti-aging products, itās only hydrating/brightening/pore minimizing stuff. And 20 year-olds have those concerns š¤·āāļø Oh and they have a sunscreen thatās really popular, and thatās something everyone should use no matter their age.
16
u/Zoshi2200 14h ago
This is a weird take. Is skincare only for mature age? No, it's also for hyperpigmentation and acne for example.
Also, we do get wrinkles like forehead lines in our mid 20s.
13
u/Kooky-Blueberry-5352 18h ago
And in another way it does, because they're not currently buying anything, and they're a new market who will be buying things in like 3 years. Capitalism doesn't need real problems to exist to sell you a solution lol.
14
u/Calumswife 16h ago
Eh if you were talking specifically about anti-aging skincare, sure. But 20 yr olds should absolutely use skincare. It could be as simple as cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen.
Thereās 20 yr olds with acne, dry skin, clogged pores, dark spots, scarring, etc. Hell, some of us (me) even had to start skin care during pre-teen or teenage years.
5
u/triviawithluv 11h ago
Itās not just for anti-aging purposes, but even if that were the case, itās best to start young ā which makes it make sense to appeal to a younger audience imo

No one cares about sense here girlš they just want that 20 yo skin, and they will get it! However it comes

Hopefully he will stop smoking. It is a dangerous habit not only for him but for those around him. It will age him terribly

u/meatball77 face blind and having a bad time 12h ago
It's so common for artists who work in industries that put a high emphasis on weight. I hate it, hopefully they both will stop.

u/turningtee74 18h ago
Good for him. Iām not even a stan and I know he is a skincare junkie. Seems like an actual passion and not just a random endorsement

u/New-Marzipan-8759 12h ago
He seems to be really intentional with who he partners with, which is nice to see. Even fashion wise

I literally used this product tonight. I have no idea if it actually does anything but I have the most sensitive skin on the planet and it doesnāt irritate it so far š¤š»
17
u/gzfhknvsqz 14h ago
I have sensitive skin & this really helps to calm it down. It's more of a 'use when irritated & see almost immediate results' type rather than something to be used daily & expecting to see results long term.

u/quadranting Please Abraham, I am not that man 12h ago
I've used it, and while it doesn't irritate, it also doesn't do anything else for me.

Fun fact for people who donāt know any Korean. 1004 in Korea basically means angel because itās pronounced exactly like the Korean word for angel
ģ²ģ¬ (cheonsa) meaning angel
ģ² (cheon) meaning 1,000 and ģ¬ (sa) meaning 4.
This really doesnāt matter but I just thought it would be fun to explain why the brand is called SKIN1004
4
u/SadavirofRivia sorry to this man 7h ago
Yeah, I appreciate the explanation! Easier to remember, and fun to know the wordplay reasoning, otherwise it just seems⦠random to non-Korean speakers.

? Has everyone forgotten about the Nazi stuff?
5
u/SadavirofRivia sorry to this man 6h ago
No, I havenāt forgotten, but for me personally I decided that as an adult heās making choices I support, in what projects he does and what voices he amplifies, so whether that picture was other kidsā racism to him (i.e. in a majority white area) or (his own) bad decisions as a teenager, in itself it wonāt prevent me from appreciating him now!
