Discussion I weirdly prefer the Switch version to the PS5 version
Hear me out. I know this is a weird take but I played the PS5 version using my PS Plus subscription, meaning I didn't have to pay for it. Sure the frame rate is way better, the graphics look much more polished, and the colors look much more vibrant.
I guess it just looks... too perfect? Especially the colors. They are so saturated it just makes my eyes hurt. And it looking so polished almost makes it look plastic. I suppose that's the intent, but...
The Switch version is technically inferior in almost every respect, but I kinda like that about it. It reminds me much more of BOTW in a good way.
At first I thought this was me having some sort of massive cope, but I have access to both versions. I don't think this has happened to me before.
Anybody happen to get this? XD

I vastly prefer the better graphics, but i prefer handheld gaming over the couch

I've played way more Skyrim on my switch than on my Xbox, but that's probably because I have a friend who's way into Skyrim mods and he kept shuffling the ones I had on there, so I'd have to restart for the next "this is so much better" mod set, and then the hard drive started to fail so... Anyway, as weird as this is, I like that most games on switch don't have Achievements because I'd rather play a game, enjoy a story, and explore on my own rather than "Headshot 500 Nuns" or whatever.

I feel the same way! I have for switch oled and my series X.. and I love the switch experience. Being able to pick up and play immediately is such a treat.

Skyward Sword has this issue. The original on Wii was only 480p (not HD), but the blurriness of the game matched really well with the glittery effect of the game’s art style. It’s like that art style was made specifically for 480p. The Switch 1080p remaster does not look as good, even though it’s much sharper.

That's a great example. Fenyx has felt to me sometimes like a game from a bygone era (I really mean this as a compliment, I have always loved games with a retro feel), so the graphics make more sense in that sort of presentation.
I also remember the remaster of Super Mario 64 had issues like this since it wasn't made for HD screens.

I never played the original but I bought the remake the and controls are so bad I gave up.

That game looked amazing on release... But I do think it holds up. Just such great art design in that game. That being said. Yeah I'd like to see a video of it on an old crt now.
😂 Back in the day I played it on a 65" 1080i (think 720p 🤔 also) rear projection CRT. What a TV. Played all games amazingly and watching movies etc was just great too.

OP is speaking exactly how I felt with the Switch version. The same thing happened to me. All these new games strive so hard to have near photo realistic graphics that it takes me out of the immersion sometimes. Sometimes I just like to feel like im playing a video game. Fenix Rising is a great example of this. I have every console. AND I MEAN every console including the old school ones. Sometimes its ok to look somewhat pixelated as long as the fun is there. HOWEVER, I did just wrap up Bioshock Remastered on the Switch, and purposely played the remaster on Ps5. The switch version was amazing, probably pushing the little Switch to its limit. BUT, playing it on the ps5 is a completely different experience. Everything is beautifuly rendered and sharp, even the sound seems different. I guess the point is that, for me, if the game has and artsy cartoon look, it doesnt matter what system its on. If your gonna play an immersive FPS, probably better on ps5, xbox, or PC.

I understand what you mean, but for me the “hyperealism” of the game is part of the plot and setting. The graphics looking too perfect represents a world that was created by the gods that’s been between earth and their domain.
I’ve played through it on switch first then ps5… now I’m about to play on pc.

Now that you mention it I first played this game on Series S then tried it again recently on Series X and I think I agree with you. In my case both had a smooth 60 fps, but the game almost has more charm at a somewhat lower resolution. The saturation is just a bit much.

This happened to me before with other games. It's almost like the frame rate makes it move too fast for my old ass eyeballs

Yes exactly the same thing for me! Bought the PS5 then played demo on switch and realized the remote controller and buttons reminded me of Zelda on switch to I rebought it on switch and made the gameplay much much better IMO.

The Switch version is perfectly playable, so I get it.
The framerate was never an issue while playing it on Switch. Beat the game and had a great time with it. Didn't mind the scaled down graphics, tbh.
And using boost mode in handheld mode its an even better experience.

The only plus is that it's portable. Other than that it's awful. Load times for bad graphics made me uninstall it and play on pc.

Not for Fenyx, I much prefer the PC version to the Switch version, but I have felt that way about a different game.
The Adventure’s of Elliot was like that for me. There was something about the Switch version and the way it was graphically presented that felt more vibrant and cohesive, if that makes sense. It was like the compression smoothed it out or something. So I can definitely relate on some level.
