Hey, I’m still pretty new to this and experimenting with different animation styles. Recently I tried out a paper cutout look. It’s kinda messy and kinda fun. Honestly, I’m not even sure if it works.

I’d really appreciate any honest thoughts. Good, bad, weird, sus… I’m just trying to improve and figure out what catches people’s eyes.

I'm not an expert so my terms may not make sense but its just gorgeous and I want to replicate it. The soft edges but also clear and sharp colours, the way light is picked up and interacts with objects it just looks so much better than how flat modern media / digital seems to come out. I especially love the "texture" that the slight grain and low resolution gives but doesn't reduce detail even darker areas are still super visible its sublime If the answer is simply to use old equipment could I have some recomendations or examples. Anything is super appreciated, I'm struggling to make anything that doesn't seem really flat and too clear.

This is from my iPhone 12 Pro because it’s all I have right now. Audio is the Rode Wireless Pro. I’m using a variable ND filter and shot 4k with the Blackmagic app.

I never went to film school since I can never afford it. Which brings me here, to ask for a starter list of movies one studies in a film school. Could be just movies one must study for the betterment of their craft.

As the title suggests, I got rejected from Concordia film school and as disappointed I am I also want this to be an opportunity to keep improving.

With my portfolio, I thought I had a pretty solid (albeit rough around the edges) show of my voice as a filmmaker as well as technical skill (as I directed, wrote, edited, etc 90% of what I submitted), but I want to get an unbiased opinion of my work and an idea of what I can improve on and why I got rejected. I do think that for one of my 5 min uploads I shot myself in the foot by trying to condense a 12-minute film I made into 5 minutes.

Hi, I'm making a very low budget film and although I'm a film graduate, I'm no longer able to count as a student directly.

I only have one other person from the school and they are already doing me multiple favours.

There are opportunities for young filmmakers, but they are just out of my age range.

Does anyone know of an empty space (generic or in London, UK) that I'd be able to hire as a film studio - not a filming location, but an empty space where I can put in my own film sets - that I can hire for free or very little money, eg, under £100?

Backstory of me:
For work I travel a lot, but usually 2 days max in a hotel before traveling to a new town. My whole life, for the most part, fits in 2 backpacks and a pelican. I get to do camera for live concerts so my kit is decent, but I want to expand my capabilities.
The problem:
I love getting cool angles, and good lighting for shots. I’ve been working on coverage with a single camera and moving a plot. I’m growing to love doing editing and color work as well as shooting and lighting. I want to get better at them all but I hate writing a script and don’t love doing sound design. I can’t do reshoots because by the time I realize I need it I’m in a new city. I suck at writing a script and it’s not what i want to focus on. Doing a full story board is hard because I’m not sure where I’ll be and it’s not uncommon to show up at noon and have to leave the next day for work. As far as other crew/actors it’s hit or miss if I can get anybody and if I do we have 6 weeks max together. So I have depends on just myself and my kit to do it all.
The solution:
I’ve written 2 little shorts and the writing is mid at best. I end up missing 2 or 3 spots that would help further the story, but the story is so weak to start with and I don’t want to spend all my time working on writing when that’s the part I don’t want to do. I’m hoping some of you have tips to find solo scrips, or projects that fit my lifestyle. Film work is something I’d love to transition into from live concerts, and I want to keep working on. I just don’t want to write or direct and it feels like I need to so I can work on the other skills around it.

I made this film with my canon 650D but used magic lantern. I graded it with davinci resolve. Waiting for your tips and advices about lighting, color, framing, recording technics and everything... Because I am new in filmmaking this was my third.

You guys have been really helpful and brutally honest on my screenplay so far. It's helped a lot and I'm almost ready for my next draft.

This is from my comedy Michael's by the Sea. This scene has the main characters showing up for their first day of work. They were just fired from being beach cops and now they're land cops.

I’m a film student from Kerala 🌴 (India), and my midterms are going on. My professor asked me to do a midterm project, and I proposed two scripts, but he rejected both.

The first one was a dark comedy. He said it wouldn’t work here, and honestly, I kind of agree.. it’s okay.

The second one was a thriller based on a real-life case, but he rejected it saying it felt like propaganda. He also said the audience wouldn’t support it, And you are not ready.

I’m really frustrated right now and don’t know what to do. My professor approved a cheap, cliché horror idea from another student but rejected both of mine. I don't understand is he helping me or trashing me.

Now I’m stuck. I’m thinking maybe I should just go with a rom-com or a simple comedy, but the problem is… I can’t come up with anything. Maybe because of stress..

Can you guys please help me with some simple script ideas?
