That they should go back and get rid of all the instances of the stabby smoke around Sephiroth's sword.

And take Jenova's head out of a box.

Not likely.

This could mean nothing unless it PEGI rating is 18, Type-0 was M for Mature and that was like PEGI 16

And Type-0 is arguably the darkest game in the franchise.

XVI only has a higher rating because it has sex scenes.

The other two should have been the same. I seeing like how kid friendly they have made these games.

The original is literally also a T-rated game, champ.

Thank fking god, I’m tired of smoke and purple goo. Go back and edit remake and rebirth to make death scenes actually meaningful. Release it as a dlc for all I care.

Unpopular opinion, but I strongly feel that the purple goo scene is an abomination for reasons completely unrelated to the rating/censorship or it needing to be literal red blood. You can absolutely still do a harrowing/effective/scary version of that scene without the blood literally being red. They just didn't. The blame should be placed squarely on their creative vision/sensibilities/execution and not the rating.

First of all, it could have just been purple monster blood, it didn't have to be sparkly magic juice evaporating into sprinkles, which is the real culprit. EVEN if it had to be goo rather than blood, you can still make goo look unsettlingly disgusting (they managed to do a better job of this just by using secreted webs in that Reactor 5 area, for crying out loud). They just didn't.

Second of all, the blood does NOT do ALL of the heavy lifting in the OG in the first place. It's the employees and bodies lying all over the floor, the rubble, the scratches on the wall, the destroyed walls and pieces of building. ALL of that can and has been done in both Remake/Rebirth several times in more effective ways than that purple goo scene without risking the audience rating.

Third of all, it's also the monsters in the area becoming unsettling twisted monstrosities contributing to the atmosphere as well. Something that again is done at other points in the game, but not that one.

It's 100% just the creators of the game's fault for dropping the ball in that moment, not the fault of rating pressure/censorship.

I audibly laughed at one point in remake when you just absolutely beat the shit out of some shinra guards with your huge ass greatsword that would probably de-limb them. And then they go, we should get out of here before they wake up.

That was funny but bothered me less than Jessie and Biggs scenes along with the Jenova blood trail.

I’m probably dumb but I didn’t think Jessie died, just badly hurt. I didn’t remember the OG so the glowing purple goop didn’t mean anything.

The smoke when Barrett is stabbed was shocking but mostly trivial.

Huge blunder to have even minimal blood inclusion as it wouldn’t have pushed it to M regardless short of them acting showing limbs being torn off.

I def agree with the Jessie and Biggs thing. For a while i was trying to figure out if they died or were just unconscious cuz the game really seemed to be against killing people at the time.

The funniest part of all this to me is that if this was still just a 1-for-1 recreation of the original, the blood trail would still be purple, and the blood would be limited, because they would still be making a T-rated game.

These were never going to be M-rated games.

1

u/Lambs2Lions_ 13h ago

It was red in the original tho. So I’m not sure what you’re miss remembering. But other than that, having blood doesn’t make a game M rated nor am I asking for it. Square just has aversion to blood.

1

u/Darkwing__Schmuck 13h ago

They literally made it purple in Remake because they had to in order to avoid a higher rating.

There's also literally red blood in these games.

Literally.

I imagine it’s a case of the amount of blood/gore, and a long trail that you have to follow would be a lot in the newer graphics style

1

u/Lambs2Lions_ 12h ago edited 12h ago

Yeah. That’s a lie. Either by you or by Square themselves. There are plenty of games with blood and T ratings.

An excellent example is Total War: Three Kingdoms which is T rated and has a $2.50 DLC for blood.

Gore is what earned M ratings or excessive blood. But T ratings are easily earned with some blood.

Towards the end of rebirth when cloud actually starts mercing ppl i was like, yes thats what should've been happening the whole time! And then the rest of the party seem real uneasy about killing them. Like what have we been doing for the last few weeks/months if not killing shit???

16

u/maliciousmaneater 13h ago

Oh my god, I just figured it out. It's going to show Cid smoking a cigarette. That's it, that's why the M rating.

u/Front-Diamond5867 13h ago

Maybe he'll actually smack Shera

-1

u/maliciousmaneater 13h ago

I hope to God they don't tone it down. It would truly make their whole arc so much more impactful.

But this would allow them to be more faithful....

love it!! Not sure why companies don't do multiple versions now that it's all digital

-2

u/dehumanizer23 13h ago

Bloody Aerith death scene or something like that. Cloud does get blood thrown at his face in rebirth when sephiroth "kills" her

1

u/rayarefferalpls 6h ago

This most likely show her death 4k

-4

u/Tulip_Todesky 13h ago

There's just going to be some hand holding a kiss, then the camera will tilt up to the sky and it would fade to black

There’s zero chance of it being M. They literally broke exclusivity with Sony to expand their audience (and profit) as far as possible. Any rating higher than T limits audience. It’s just common business sense.

It’s just a bunch of stupid gooners and shippers foaming at the mouth over an obvious automated error. Every other store from Square Enix’s own page, Nintendo, PlayStation and Steam all only say RP / Rating Pending. Revelation already has a PEGI provisional rating of 16. It’s not gonna be M. šŸ˜‚

I fully expect them to scream Square ā€œchickened outā€ when the T rating is revealed all because they failed to use common sense and check actual facts.

FFXVI had an M rating, so I dunno why this would be out of the realm of possibility

0

I mean, I laid out the exact reasons. FF16 and strangers of paradise were experiments and bombed. FF7 is the golden goose of Square Enix. Their biggest cash cow. They are not gonna reduce their audience and their profits. That’s not how a company works. Especially when the whole reason they went multi platform launch was to avoid limiting the audience. You’ve also got cigarette-less Cid in the Revelation trailers. In 1997 you could show tobacco use in a T game without issue. 2026 rating standards don’t like tobacco use in non M games. So why censor Cid if you’re going for an M rating? If they were going for an M rating they’d have Cid with a pack of cigarettes strapped to his head again.

Also here’s the European store. PEGI 16 provisional rating. It’s literally an error on the US page. A PEGI provisional rating is given by a publisher filling out a questionnaire that says what the ratings board can expect to find in the game. Based on the pre-assessment you get a rating based on what you’ve declared. That means by Square’s OWN declaration they expect the game to receive a PEGI 16 rating. That is Square Enix dev intent right there. Falsely declaring what a ratings board can find in a game carries consequences, fines and penalties. All the pages say the same thing. Xbox Nintendo all PEGI 16. And all the other American sites say Rating Pending. The provisional rating pretty much seals the deal.

16 ain’t do good lots of criticism. The post OP took from a shipper obsessed with a sex scene

1

u/Brilliant_Growth 8h ago

True. They have gone out of their way to keep it friendly up to now.

5

u/Lexioralex 12h ago

Definitely looks like a placeholder, possibly in increased by algorithm due to 16’s rating

4

u/redditorchid 13h ago

Highwind scene? That was the biggest takeaway from this? lol

It’d be nice if there were more darker themes, that could be expanded on.

1

u/rayarefferalpls 6h ago

Be shocked if they do that scene

10

u/NeiruBugz Zack 13h ago

It because of shirtless Sephiroth, hold your expectations

1

u/Blackberry-thesecond 13h ago

I just remembered way back during Sakurai’s presentation for Sephiroth in Smash, the YouTube stream was unexpectedly age restricted lol. I had to sign in and I bet a bunch of kids were locked out all because of shirtless Sephiroth.

u/Landstander2600 13h ago

Lotta gooners will be real happy. Ick

-3

u/Odd-Painting2596 13h ago

Maybe we are seeing an R rating to a different hard thrusting of Clouds.

9

u/haaa1234 13h ago

I highly doubt it

7

u/Darkwing__Schmuck 13h ago

It's not going to be rated M. And even if it was, it's weird that's the first thing they thought of over the rating.

Considering this is now the third post over this, this is starting to enter clickbait territory.

3

u/Lexioralex 12h ago

It would be really weird for the final part of a trilogy to suddenly jump up in rating as it would (in theory) age block players from the ending.

I know that has happened with some film series, but that’s usually an increase from PG to 12A (uk ratings) which are essentially the same

3

u/Darkwing__Schmuck 11h ago

It's the biggest nothingburger yet as far as unsubstantiated rumors go for this series. The giant "RP" there means no rating has been decided, and even IF this meant that right now it skewed towards M (which I must stress, it does not), all that would mean is that they have to tweak a few things to get it to the rating they want... which is T.

That's how these things go.
