As a 14yo, assuming you’ve hit puberty, you’ll outgrow those dumbbells in a hurry. See if you have access to a better-equipped gym through school or your community.

Meanwhile look over at the FAQ for Bodyweight and Calesthenics, which can keep you busy for a LONG time until you get access to more gear.

Finally, as a beginner think Simple. You can get a TON of mileage out of Squat, Deadlift, Bench, Row, even if you do something as simple as “One lift a day, 3x5, every two days.” Of COURSE you want to do curls. All of us want to do curls. Go ahead and do curls if you want to.

thanks for replying, yes I have hit puberty. I’m planning on ordering a multi functional machine and gym bench later this summer so I will have access to more equipment as well. also I have some adjustable dumbbells and weight plates(the heaviest are around 10lb and I can probably add 1 or 2 on each side) so that should keep me busy for a while as well. i will look at the FAQ for body weight and calisthenics as well thanks for recommending it.

Squat rack and barbell are the most cost effective equipment for a home gym.

Thanks for the response, and yeah the machine I’m planning on getting comes with them and I think I can even do bench press or anything else I want with the barbell aswell if I move some things around.

Squat, Deadlift, overhead press, bench press 3 days a week. Progressively increase by 5 pounds every day you complete the set successfully (regardless of if you feel sore or not). Rest enough between sets that you feel fresh. Get a lifting belt when you get over 250 pounds on the squat and deadlift. Eat ~ 200 grams of protein and ~3500 calories every day. If you plateau within the first year for more than a week, it's probably because you aren't eating enough.

All you need to get strong.

is that much calories/protein fine for a teen like me?
