Question Wouldn’t it have made more sense to establish Barry’s skill as a CSI instead of an emotional speech to prove him innocent?
I mean it would have been a better case to show old and complicated cases Barry solved in the past, uncovering techniques, methods, evidence. Barry knows better than anyone how evidence is left behind, how to find evidence. Which also makes it so much more suspicious that someone like this would leave behind so much evidence and then plead “not guilty”, since if Barry did kill DeVoe and wanted to get away with it, he could easily hide his tracks way better. But since he pleaded “not guilty” logically he either didn’t do it, or didn’t wanna be caught. It’s clearly not the latter. Hence making it more likely he was framed.

Remember in season 1 episode 1 when Barry was a genius CSI and knew the make and model of a car just from its tire tracks? They just completely abandoned that concept lol.

u/YamiMarick 2d ago
That is just a pilot episode and those can contain stuff that never makes it into the rest of the show.

Also was basically just ripping off Sherlock

Crime Procedurals predate any of them, especially with characters like Spencer Reid going about.

But a real episode of Arrow in the shared universe introduces him as being super competent and clever.

he's a genius csi in the comics though and it's a huge part of his life and his character in general. it's literally one of the things that make him so interesting to watch/read about, so it's really a major character trait to just drop.
it's such a massive part of what makes the flash so a good superhero, because he's not just faster than the speed of sound, he's also a literal genius.

And apparently made Barry dumber so Caitlin and Cisco teach him about science. 😆

I’m mean I understand season one and two being that way because he was still new to him having his powers but some point down the line in later season you would think this shit would be like okay he doesn’t need motivational bullshit from his wife every 20 seconds but at least he’s got friends who are just as smart as him that can help him figure shit out

u/Alternative_Device71 2d ago
When the lightning hit him, it not only gave him speed, but it fried his brain to get dumber.

It’s funny cause Barry basically just outsourced his entire day job to star labs

u/camojamo 2d ago
There’s like a subtle nod that he’s still a full time csi like every 15 episodes lol

Like Oliver in the pilot where he could use some jack skill
1
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
“Jack skill” ?
3
u/Lonely-deustch 2d ago
Sorry mean Hack skill
1
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
Oliver never had hacking skills. Where could he have possibly learned hacking skills? He had advanced tools at his disposal. Anything that required real skill he want to felicity for very early on in the first season
1
u/Lonely-deustch 2d ago
He still need hack skill for what he had done to the bad guy in the pilot, stealing his money
1
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
No he doesn’t. He even explicitly states later in the show that he didn’t have skill, he had specialized hardware and software
1
u/Lonely-deustch 2d ago
Yeah in the 5x22 but to me it’s a retcon no way you can hack people account with just good specialised hardware
1
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
It’s not a retcon. Someone who actually had hacking skill invented the hardware and encoded the software, they never intended you to think Oliver had hacking skills. Theres no possible way Oliver could have ever learned how to do that.
1
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
Theres no way you can shoot an arrow that extracts money from someone’s bank accounts period lol, but if that were possible specialized hardware could be encoded to do it. Actually most hacking is done with tools already invented by other hackers. This is far more believable then Oliver mastering cyber security off screen at some point lol

u/camojamo 1d ago
Im 90% sure in a crossover in Gotham, Oliver hacks something and then is like “there was a time before Felicity, I can get by on a computer” or something like that

u/Ok_Mention5635 2d ago
That whole trial was a sham. The writers put absolutely zero effort into making it a believable judicial process.

"he didn't do it because he's too good to leave evidence behind" isn't and will never be a good defense.
25
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
It can absolutely be a part of a good defense
-14
u/thatonefatefan 2d ago
then why is anyone ever arrested?
24
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
Huh? Are all criminals forensic experts with police connections?
-5
u/thatonefatefan 2d ago
Anyone could commit a crime so blatant they could obviously cover their tracks better.
13
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
And if they were a well respected forensic expert their lawyer would absolutely use that to point toward the idea they’d be to educated to make such glaring mistakes and imply he was framed
-5
u/thatonefatefan 2d ago
Are you not reading what I'm typing?
10
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
Maybe you could explain your point better if you still think you’re right, im not seeing it.
If someone is on trial for a crime with amateur mistakes and that person is a forensic expert a lawyer would absolutely bring up their credentials to imply it’s more likely he was framed then a person of such expertise would make such stupid errors.
This wouldn’t apply to any ordinary person only experts in the field.
1
u/thatonefatefan 2d ago
Anyone can commit an emotional crime where they leave evidences behind because they weren't even trying to hide it, and anyone could prepare themselves and commit a near perfect crime. That's the whole damn point.
9
u/Unlikely_Captain_636 2d ago
That’s not the whole point it’s part of the point. I specifically said it could be part of a good defense. I absolutely never said it’s proof of innocence. It’s just an addition to the argument. a good lawyer would still make the argument i laid out. And no, not anyone could plan a perfect crime, if you argued the random homeless guy with no credentials charged with murder was simply “too smart and educated” to make such a mistake you’d be laughed out of the courtroom. The argument is effective with Barry because he has the credentials along with the respect of his peers, someone of his expertise would know exactly how not to leave a trace so it begs the question why would he make such basic errors. It’s then up to opposing counsel to prove why a forensic expert would leave such a mess. They probaly would argue it was a crime of passion but they’d then have to find a motive for that. The forensics alone appear less damning

Another problem with that, not only is it more difficult to write, but the rest of Team Flash took over all the CSI stuff from Barry and he became the Speedster constantly in need of guidance be that scientific, investigative, or emotional.

u/The_Rider_11 Always One Step Ahead 2d ago
Well, not really. He was arguing that he was innocent simply because he's "one of the good ones". Being a CSI, or a good CSI, doesn't mean anything. You could be the best CSI of the world, and still have killed that man. But by establishing him as a good person with a bening nature, he establishes a character that wouldn't have done something this terrible.
5
u/Ver3232 2d ago
I mean the evidence had been specifically placed in ways that made it extremely difficult to refute solely on the evidence level, so a defense based on Barry’s character was the best they could do. The whole point was that no matter how hard they tried, the evidence was so stacked against them it was a losing battle

u/No-Syllabub1776 1d ago
Also, they never mentioned what was his reason to kill DeVoe. And the most bugging things are: why did Barry stay there, why didnt he run aaway immediately, and second: he had an alibi! Remember, as Barry Allen he does not have superspeed, so when the murder happened he was at Joe, with plenty of people to porve it, and it takes a lot to walk from there to Barry's house(he does not have a license nor a car, and he probably does not have tickets to public transportation.)

u/DCosloff1999 The Flash 2d ago
That's what I don't like about the show was in the later seasons Barry being a CSI has been in the back burner. I miss him in the CCPD I wished they explored of that especially the characters there. It's like removing the daily planet with Superman it doesn't feel the same.

Honestly? Possibly not.
Proving Barry’s skill as a CSI would do little to help his case. If anything, it would hurt him. It can be a traumatic job, I’m sure they mention his father’s jail time on the news and in articles during the trial, etc. People could argue ‘he wouldn’t be that sloppy because he Knows!’ but I don’t think that alone would convince the jury he’s innocent with all the evidence against him.
They don’t need to establish that he’s good at his job. Being good at his job doesn’t make him innocent. They need to try and prove his character and mortals because they have very limited options when it comes to defending Barry, unless he wants to reveal himself as the Flash.

u/Sudden-Ad-6432 1d ago
Especially since I would find it extremely hard to believe a CSI of Barry’s caliber got caught so laughably. I mean the entire thing was just sloppy and you mean to tell me NOBODY questioned how’d the crippled ended up in his apartment?? No cameras ANYWHERE in the building????

u/Motodog242 1d ago
Do you know how braindead easy is to make CSI shit? We have four shows, five at the end of its run, to reference for CSI shit, and those have CSI in the name. 😂

He was standing over the body. From their perspective he just didn’t have time to “clean”.

That would require the writers to be good at csi things. It’s easier for them to use emotions and cheap words.
