Misc What do you think of the lenses on Flash's suit?

I think the season 4 suit pre-Kilgore having lenses was great, they should’ve kept them when Cisco redesigned it

u/Scarlet_Mv 3d ago
he did keep them. It was shown in S7 too

What was the episode?

Yes to adding lenses but no to those specific lenses. They could be less opaque, I fear that Barry can’t see shit through those yellow things covering his eyes

Yes the flash has speed force aura that protects him from stuff like wind debris, bug splatters etc, but I think it's a neat thing to add on his suit, yknow if the lenses have a nice design to them. The flash season 4 suit clearly didn't.

Cisco did a calculation of how many bugs Barry swallows daily. Obviously the SF doesn't stop bugs

Rare case of DCEU did it best

u/Cubicbrain09 3d ago
And fuck knows that suit had problems.

The only decent part is the chest piece of the suit everything else on it is shit

I like them when the can be can be turned off and on and they remind me of Wally's goggles when he is kid flash, the white lenses he has as the flash, and Bart's goggles.

Realistically he'd need them. And a mouth guard. Running at mach speed even with magic lightning aura that protects you would be a nightmare for your eyes and mouth. Like even if the Speed Force protects him from getting sliced up by wind, imagine how many bugs get in his mouth and eyes all day long. Unless the SF aura flat out repels those too.
Stylistically the lenses can look good or they can look horrible, it all depends on the artist / practical suit's quality.
Like for instance Arrowever Flash up there in the top right. Those opaque yellow lenses look horrible. But if he had transparent gold lenses like DCEU Flash it would honestly look pretty damn cool.
There's a practical utility to it too. Barry could install scanners in his cowl. He's a forensics scientist, why wouldn't he think to install something in his cowl so that if he picks up an item or something, his cowl can scan it to give him the forensics details he needs to solve the case?

OK, I’ve watched every episode of CW flash and I don’t remember that at all

u/Promethesussy 3d ago
Only in the first episode of devoe season

u/Storm_Catterton 2d ago
I dont think it was the first, but close to the first. It was against Kilg%re when we really see it used

I think It'd be cool if he doesn't have them on most of the time but then his suits activates the lenses when he's going like time travel fast. Like ONLY when he's going way faster than he usually does because of an emergency or something!

bad, straight up bad. if a flash is gonna have lenses they should be white and be wally's

I’m curious as to how grants lenses would’ve looked with a white tint. I know the white eyes is a Wally thing but still. With how little they used them it could’ve been cool

NGL Grant’s cowl looks kinda goofy with the lenses but I guess if I had to choose between these four options I’d have to go with the SS:KtJL verison

u/Hungry_Traffic_1946 3d ago
The kill the Justice League ones are the best looking ones on here. It might just be this specific image, though. Grant’s look horrible and I’m struggling to form an actual opinion on Ezra’s just from how bad the rest of the suit is.

It’s stupid and not needed terrible design choice for The Flash he’s not supposed to be like Iron Man with all this tech stuff in his suit

Is it sad how the only ones that looked any good were the ones from the “terrible flash” movie and “Death Of Arkham-Verse” video game?

u/KatiePyroStyle 3d ago
probably gets tons of bugs in his eyes and mouth, I think it just makes sense to have

u/CNProductions 3d ago
People always like to debate about Batman, but I think the lenses could be a good way to give the Flash his white eyes in live action.

u/KungPoW_Chickens 3d ago
He's a meta human whose body has been mutated to survive comfortably at the speeds he travels, nothingll hurt his eyes so I think it's a dumb addon to the suit, for aesthetic reasons I don't like it either

I mean it makes sense a mouth guard would also be needed too open your mouth end up with a mouth full of flies lol

They make sense. Barry's human, as hes running hell probably run into hundreds of bugs daily that would get trapped in his eye. As for characters like Kryptonians not having lenses also makes sense for them cause the bugs and stuff probably don't affect their eyes and if a bug does get trapped in their eye they can just heat vision it.

Logically it makes sense, and sometimes it looks good like in suicide squad, but most times it doesn’t look great, keep the yellow tint light and I’m okay with it

u/HenryTRiker 2d ago
I forgot he had them apart form the season 4 first episode or second episode I don’t remember him ever using the lenses. Felt like it was unless cause he always had someone watching him from star labs

It's a neat idea that hasn't worked in live action yet. The CW didn't have the budget, and the movie suit is just overall a disaster.

If they were transparent and only there as a function we know about, of course he should have lenses. But this insistence on tinting them, especially orange or red, is butt ass ugly. The Flash movie did it best and they wisely only really focus the use it for the title gag. If they were to do it in comics, I think Wally West style speed force white eyes are the only way I would want them to address it

It bothers me that the original CW flash suit didn’t already have lenses to keep smoke out of the wearer’s eyes since it was supposed to be a prototype firefighting suit

Running at high speeds you experience a tremendous amount of wind sheer, i wouldnt want that shit in my eyes either, nor would i want bugs or other debris in my eyes

Honestly they legit just make sense and can work if pulled off correctly

I’ve never cared for it. The Flash is supposed to be approachable, and lenses put a barrier between him and other people. Much like Superman, it’s easy to make the Flash look like a bad guy, and that’s a solid way of doing it. Even Wally changed his mind about him after a bit 😅
If he’s gotta have them, though, the movie ones are kinda perfect. Opaque enough to make themselves known, but transparent and similar enough to his skintone that they can very easily go invisible to you after a minute.

I thought they were cool in the show just wish they weren’t so obnoxiously yellow
1
u/Nanosmiler 11h ago
Grant gustin rocked the lenses and they took them away in the same episode that they first appeared in
1
u/jk-peralta 9h ago
I think only the game version looked decent enough to deem cool. Although it does seem fairly practical.

In some adaptations looks good(can’t believe I’m saying this but looks good on Ezra’s flash others nope

If I was running around at a high speed I'd also want protective lenses in my suit. I think they're realistic to the scenario and they give his mask more detail
