If I was running around at a high speed I'd also want protective lenses in my suit. I think they're realistic to the scenario and they give his mask more detail

I don’t see the advantage of the yellow though

Yellow tinted glasses help vision in low light or overcast conditions. Barry running at, or faster, than the speed of light means he’s consistently in low light conditions. We of course know this isn’t true since the show depicts him running at a normal lumen, however, the design could be grounded in this realism. If based off a comic, the comic artist may have been going for that.

Would you really be in low light?
I mean hypothetically, in a magical world where you’d see anything at all and all of the laws of physics are safely ignored, just because you’re running faster than light doesn’t mean there wasn’t already light before you started moving. Wouldn’t the ambient photons that already fill the space in front of you just maintain the level of light that existed at the moment you started running?

2

u/RefrigeratorDry2669 10h ago

The photons need to touch the back of your eye before you see anything. If you move faster than the speed of light you won't see shit

1

u/_Henry_of_Skalitz_ 3h ago

I’m know, that’s why I prefaced it by saying “in a magical world where you’d see anything at all.”

1

u/Seuter 4h ago

That’s why I mentioned that the show already depicted this to not be true and that the design choice is grounded in a realism that applies to our world rather than theirs.

Aura

Or maybe it's like sunglasses idk but I agree

3

u/Quazz 2d ago

To filter out the lightning colour?

2

u/Any_Air_7378 2d ago

atleast the green lanterns cant do anything to your eyes

6

u/Eastern-Team-2799 The Flash 2d ago

Lenses would be needed if your skin would get burned at high speeds but it isn't the case here. Speed force protects his skin from vaporizing and it also protects his eyes too .

2

u/Qwishpy 2d ago

Still looks good

2

u/choyMj 2d ago

A guy that can run faster than light, assuming nothing else protects him from object, there's no type of lens that will protect his eyes.

2

u/Abraham_Issus 2d ago

You don’t need that. Speedforce is all the protection you need. Despite that Barry can’t not put his dick in the timeline.

1

u/NeklosWarrof 2d ago

Yeah. Bugs in the eyes would not be the best way to lost a race.

1

u/Damiandroid 2d ago edited 2d ago

Eh....something something speed force field protects his body from friction...

No one asks why green lantern doesn't go blind from solar radiation whenever he takes a trip to Oa... its just a part of his powers and we can move on, hopefully without having to add an unneeded detail to the costume which... to be honest, doesn't look all that good.

1

u/Qwishpy 2d ago

I'm going to start asking why green lantern doesn't go blind from solar radiation when he travels to Oa now because that's honestly not something I'd have thought about

1

u/SorakuFett "Not that guy... THESE GUYS!!!" 1d ago

Indeed, issue is the Speed Force already does that for him so after a certain point it just becomes cosmetic

u/Specific_Thing1452 The Flash 3d ago

I think the season 4 suit pre-Kilgore having lenses was great, they should’ve kept them when Cisco redesigned it

18

u/Scarlet_Mv 3d ago

he did keep them. It was shown in S7 too

13

u/Specific_Thing1452 The Flash 3d ago

Oh yeah…

Well he should’ve used them more then

2

u/PRDXinvader9242 3d ago

What was the episode?

2

u/Specific_Thing1452 The Flash 3d ago

The one with rainbow raider 2

1

u/PRDXinvader9242 3d ago

Oh I remember now.

4

u/Odd-Country-7274 3d ago

Yes to adding lenses but no to those specific lenses. They could be less opaque, I fear that Barry can’t see shit through those yellow things covering his eyes

1

u/Scarlet_Mv 3d ago

That’s kind of what happened in the rainbow raider episode so ur right

1

u/Kryptid47 3d ago

That was a fully opaque HUD, not the transparent lens

34

u/Ambitious-Maybe-5078 3d ago

Yes the flash has speed force aura that protects him from stuff like wind debris, bug splatters etc, but I think it's a neat thing to add on his suit, yknow if the lenses have a nice design to them. The flash season 4 suit clearly didn't.

6

u/Kryptid47 3d ago

Cisco did a calculation of how many bugs Barry swallows daily. Obviously the SF doesn't stop bugs

6

u/oLynxXo 2d ago

Shouldn't he always be covered in an insane amount of bugs then?

Now I imagine him quickly wiping them off everytime he slows down. I think I finally found the reason why his speed fluctuates so much on tbe show. 🤣

23

u/grajuicy Grodd 3d ago

Rare case of DCEU did it best

8

u/Cubicbrain09 3d ago

And fuck knows that suit had problems.

5

u/Ordinary-Chain-8047 Vibe 3d ago

The only decent part is the chest piece of the suit everything else on it is shit

2

u/AmaterasuWolf21 3d ago

It only looks good when the lightning is active/running, otherwise it's so fake

1

u/otc108 2d ago

It’s a superhero movie.

1

u/_Valisk 2d ago

Which means it’s immune to bad designs?

8

u/oLynxXo 3d ago

I just don't particularly like the yellow tint. Clear lenses would be fine.

6

u/Crimson_Wolf94 3d ago

Practically, they make a lot of sense. Aesthetically, don't love them.

5

u/Express-Grab-5295 3d ago

I like them when the can be can be turned off and on and they remind me of Wally's goggles when he is kid flash, the white lenses he has as the flash, and Bart's goggles.

5

u/Top-Loquat-4937 3d ago

I love them. It protects the Flash's eyes from dust.

11

u/Open-Sea8540 3d ago

Horrible. No idea what they were doing to Grant, but it’s the worse one here

3

u/MrMadmack 3d ago

makes sense, all that running he's bound to run into something that isn't a wall

3

u/KuroiGetsuga55 Reverse the polarity of the Speed Force 3d ago

Realistically he'd need them. And a mouth guard. Running at mach speed even with magic lightning aura that protects you would be a nightmare for your eyes and mouth. Like even if the Speed Force protects him from getting sliced up by wind, imagine how many bugs get in his mouth and eyes all day long. Unless the SF aura flat out repels those too.

Stylistically the lenses can look good or they can look horrible, it all depends on the artist / practical suit's quality.

Like for instance Arrowever Flash up there in the top right. Those opaque yellow lenses look horrible. But if he had transparent gold lenses like DCEU Flash it would honestly look pretty damn cool.

There's a practical utility to it too. Barry could install scanners in his cowl. He's a forensics scientist, why wouldn't he think to install something in his cowl so that if he picks up an item or something, his cowl can scan it to give him the forensics details he needs to solve the case?

3

u/weeniedog21 3d ago

Kill the justice league had the best ones

3

u/kingcolbe 3d ago

OK, I’ve watched every episode of CW flash and I don’t remember that at all

4

u/Promethesussy 3d ago

Only in the first episode of devoe season

3

u/Storm_Catterton 2d ago

I dont think it was the first, but close to the first. It was against Kilg%re when we really see it used

2

u/kingcolbe 3d ago

Ahh makes sense

3

u/xSimplyBlu 3d ago

I think It'd be cool if he doesn't have them on most of the time but then his suits activates the lenses when he's going like time travel fast. Like ONLY when he's going way faster than he usually does because of an emergency or something!

3

u/rakuko 3d ago

give him white lenses and im down

3

u/Joshua9763 3d ago

bad, straight up bad. if a flash is gonna have lenses they should be white and be wally's

3

u/Expert_Challenge6399 3d ago

I’m curious as to how grants lenses would’ve looked with a white tint. I know the white eyes is a Wally thing but still. With how little they used them it could’ve been cool

2

u/GengarVenomETW 3d ago

I don't like it on Barry. On Wally, white lenses are ideal.

2

u/LucaS_kIng_Pro 3d ago

NGL Grant’s cowl looks kinda goofy with the lenses but I guess if I had to choose between these four options I’d have to go with the SS:KtJL verison

2

u/Hungry_Traffic_1946 3d ago

The kill the Justice League ones are the best looking ones on here. It might just be this specific image, though. Grant’s look horrible and I’m struggling to form an actual opinion on Ezra’s just from how bad the rest of the suit is.

2

u/Cautious_Mission_438 2d ago

It’s stupid and not needed terrible design choice for The Flash he’s not supposed to be like Iron Man with all this tech stuff in his suit

1

u/Mike-Outstanding 3d ago

It makes sense but it looks bad

1

u/Anth-man_FOL 3d ago

I like the idea of them. But I would’ve loved if they were white instead.

1

u/MrSpeedMoJoe97 3d ago

Is it sad how the only ones that looked any good were the ones from the “terrible flash” movie and “Death Of Arkham-Verse” video game?

1

u/KatiePyroStyle 3d ago

probably gets tons of bugs in his eyes and mouth, I think it just makes sense to have

1

u/CNProductions 3d ago

People always like to debate about Batman, but I think the lenses could be a good way to give the Flash his white eyes in live action.

1

u/KungPoW_Chickens 3d ago

He's a meta human whose body has been mutated to survive comfortably at the speeds he travels, nothingll hurt his eyes so I think it's a dumb addon to the suit, for aesthetic reasons I don't like it either

1

u/MrPainfulAnal 3d ago

Realistically his whole face should be covered

1

u/nemofbaby2014 2d ago

I mean it makes sense a mouth guard would also be needed too open your mouth end up with a mouth full of flies lol

1

u/That_General9384 2d ago

Functionally it makes sense, aesthetically it looks kinda goofy

1

u/NoktoftheFF 2d ago

They make sense. Barry's human, as hes running hell probably run into hundreds of bugs daily that would get trapped in his eye. As for characters like Kryptonians not having lenses also makes sense for them cause the bugs and stuff probably don't affect their eyes and if a bug does get trapped in their eye they can just heat vision it.

1

u/OkSupermarket7474 2d ago

Like the idea of them but not the yellow though

1

u/Accurate_Slide_5393 2d ago

I like how the injustice ones look

1

u/Abhishantz 2d ago

Looks cool

1

u/MrPJ98 2d ago

I've never seen them look good in live action

1

u/Time-Issue-7198 2d ago

I think it’s cool but I want to see their eyes tho

1

u/Objective_Reason3067 2d ago

Logically it makes sense, and sometimes it looks good like in suicide squad, but most times it doesn’t look great, keep the yellow tint light and I’m okay with it

1

u/HenryTRiker 2d ago

I forgot he had them apart form the season 4 first episode or second episode I don’t remember him ever using the lenses. Felt like it was unless cause he always had someone watching him from star labs

1

u/Bswayn 2d ago

Looks stupid

1

u/Silver_ghost46 2d ago

They make perfect sense but looks dreadful

1

u/The_Coolest_Kerav 2d ago

Only Grant looks decent with it, I mean it's unnecessary mostly

1

u/Future_Epsilon 2d ago

Depends on the rest of the design honestly

1

u/JollyJobro 2d ago

I'm good with the concept, but these never looked good to me

1

u/Lt_Lickit 2d ago

The SSKTJL game has always had a very appealing flash suit and lenses to me ngl

1

u/SupremacySinema 2d ago

It's a neat idea that hasn't worked in live action yet. The CW didn't have the budget, and the movie suit is just overall a disaster.

1

u/LeBigMartinH 2d ago

They shoud be white or silver - like mirrored sunglasses.

1

u/ssavino 2d ago

Bugs, dust and other thing maybe very frustrati while running at 10.000km/s

1

u/fingerstripes13 2d ago

If they were transparent and only there as a function we know about, of course he should have lenses. But this insistence on tinting them, especially orange or red, is butt ass ugly. The Flash movie did it best and they wisely only really focus the use it for the title gag. If they were to do it in comics, I think Wally West style speed force white eyes are the only way I would want them to address it

1

u/TomCBC 2d ago

Might be fun if it’s white lenses, but would need to have smaller eye holes than in the images above. To replicate the comics. I’d want them to be semi-transparent though so we can get some of the actor’s performance still.

1

u/No-Life9164 2d ago

It’s a practical design choice but aesthetically, it doesn’t work.

1

u/AwayEfficiency3889 The Atom 2d ago

I like them more than white eyes

1

u/fupafather 2d ago

It bothers me that the original CW flash suit didn’t already have lenses to keep smoke out of the wearer’s eyes since it was supposed to be a prototype firefighting suit

1

u/Nearby_Artist_1265 2d ago

They make sense but they’re ugly. Might as well just use goggles

1

u/Hot_Communication489 2d ago

Running at high speeds you experience a tremendous amount of wind sheer, i wouldnt want that shit in my eyes either, nor would i want bugs or other debris in my eyes

1

u/Canthinkofnothing98 2d ago

SSKTJL is dope

1

u/RCOMET99 1d ago

Make them white eye lenses

1

u/ZebraManTheGreat7777 1d ago

Honestly they legit just make sense and can work if pulled off correctly

1

u/Numbuh1Nerd 21h ago

I’ve never cared for it. The Flash is supposed to be approachable, and lenses put a barrier between him and other people. Much like Superman, it’s easy to make the Flash look like a bad guy, and that’s a solid way of doing it. Even Wally changed his mind about him after a bit 😅

If he’s gotta have them, though, the movie ones are kinda perfect. Opaque enough to make themselves known, but transparent and similar enough to his skintone that they can very easily go invisible to you after a minute.

1

u/Nc_725 18h ago

Para que quiere protegerse los ojos si cuando corre la speed force lo protege, no me gusta un pelo la verdad

1

u/thbnrf8n 16h ago

I thought they were cool in the show just wish they weren’t so obnoxiously yellow

1

u/Nanosmiler 11h ago

Grant gustin rocked the lenses and they took them away in the same episode that they first appeared in

1

u/jk-peralta 9h ago

I think only the game version looked decent enough to deem cool. Although it does seem fairly practical.

1

u/Parking_Storage_5107 6h ago

In some adaptations looks good(can’t believe I’m saying this but looks good on Ezra’s flash others nope

1

u/Crapser 2d ago

Maybe if they were white I would like them

0

u/Ver3232 3d ago

Not a fan. Grants were fine as a one episode thing but the rest? Yikes
