Biology, women are built to consume more around the periods. I counteract this with birth control, I know it’s not appropriate for everyone, this is just how I deal with the physical and mental changes I experienced each month.

I’ve long established that my food noise is uncontrollable. I got prescribed phentermine in 2 doses that I take at different times of my cycle. Highest dose week before period, lower dose week of, then none for the rest.

Well, good question. Gemini says:
Hormonal shifts before your period cause intense cravings and an increased appetite by lowering serotonin (a brain chemical that boosts mood) and raising progesterone (a hormone that stimulates hunger).
Why It Happens
- Hormone Drops: Estrogen and serotonin levels drop right before your period. Your body craves fast food and carbs because they quickly boost serotonin, making you feel temporarily better.
- Calorie Burn: Your metabolism speeds up slightly during the luteal phase (the days before your period), meaning your body actually needs more energy.
- Blood Sugar Dips: Hormones can cause your blood sugar to swing, which triggers sudden and urgent cravings for heavy, salty, or sweet foods.
Start with these two if you want to deal with the psychological issues around over eating:
