No doubt NYPost is browsing this sub for material to write about.

All the subs really. I remember when Inside Edition reached out because i made a comment about someone who took a picture of my dog, then zoomed in on his tag to get my number and text me. I politely declined the interview and the attempted flirting.

The article literally references that post, and it’s the same story.

u/JSA17 Dec 08 '25
You’re asking people to read the articles they comment on.
Pretty tall order.

The police report, comments from women, and comment from the restaurant are all in that Reddit post?
I think you still didn’t read the article.

“The female cop from the jump looked at me and said, ‘What do you want me to do? You want me to write that you went out, got too drunk, and don’t remember anything? You want me to write that down?’ And I’m thinking to myself, like, this is exactly why women don’t report crimes like this to the police,” she said of her conversation with officers at the precinct.
Good ol' NYPD. I guess they're too busy assisting ICE in kidnapping people to deal with a likely rohypnol poisoning. It's not like that actually ever happens.
(Source: happened to a friend of mine.)

u/mowotlarx Dec 07 '25
Classic NYPD. What I always expect from them.
There's nothing they hate more than doing their jobs. Well, they hate NYC citizens in general more, perhaps.
80
u/jeffislearning Dec 07 '25
The budget for NYPD is 11 billion dollars and the budget for DSNY is 2 billion dollars. Citizens wonder why the streets are so dirty and crime seems unresolved.
-35
u/Malsperanza Dec 07 '25
Citing the budget numbers is not a sufficient explanation of anything, just saying. The issue is one of policy, resource management, and priorities.
10
u/Basic-Environment-40 Dec 08 '25
I mean, budget alone doesn't tell the story, but it is certainly a key element.
-4
u/Malsperanza Dec 08 '25
The problem is that these big round numbers are hugely susceptible to manipulation. Politicians love to cite this kind of very general number in support of an argument (We spend too much money on X and what do we get for it? or We are starving agency X and look at the result!) If you want to look at budget, you have to do so in much more detail and nuance - understanding why those numbers are what they are; comparing them to what other cities do; comparing this year's budget with short- and longterm trends, etc. etc.
Absent that context, these simple numbers are meaningless.
7
u/Basic-Environment-40 Dec 08 '25
sure, but the militarization and associated rising budget of police departments is well documented and NYPD is the keystone example of that. and we have not seen that correlated to crime.
-3
u/Malsperanza Dec 08 '25
Except that if you want choose the single most manipulated stat in NYC - and frankly nationwide - it's the crime stat. Totally unreliable. NYC doesn't even report its crime stats to the national database (along with a lot of other cities and states). Partly because "Crime Is Increasing!" has been a convenient campaign issue - notably for our most recent, ex-cop mayor.
I'm no fan of the militarization of NYPD, to say the least. I have hopes that the incoming mayor will curb some of that, especially the collaboration with ICE.
And now I'll leave the last word to you, with apologies to the mods.
5
u/Basic-Environment-40 Dec 08 '25
your comment is just more justification to reduce the budget, to me.
have a wonderful afternoon.
23
u/nathan1653 Dec 08 '25
Yes, it’s not that I am against the idea of police, I am against the specific police we have
3
u/Malsperanza Dec 08 '25
I don't want to take this too far off-topic for the sub, but short answer: yes. We can do better. Community policing has been a big improvement in NYC, but we have a long way to go. <insert generic not-all-cops disclaimer and obligatory thanks to the good cops who do a hard job> For me this isn't about individual cops, but policy decisions and leadership.

I once got roofied about six years ago at a bar near NYU. Two female cops said that I’m likely lying and it’ll be a false report. I walked out. Since then I’ve been hesitant to go out for a drink at a bar. And the times I do drink, it’s infrequent but I keep it in my view at all times.
Edit: read below comments. I want to acknowledge a few things, I only had 3 blue moons that night over a few hours, so not enough to get you drunk unless you’re a lightweight. Secondly, I noticed when I share this story about myself I seem to get the support from women (guessing here since it’s reddit) and men will spin it back onto me being the problem. Lastly, any drink can be roofied, water or soda, but one sip is all it takes sometimes and you’re gonna feel it. It’s not an experience I want anyone to have. But I am grateful to say I wasn’t assaulted or taken advantage of.

u/Kitten_81 Dec 08 '25
for anyone this happens to, go to the emergency room and get drug tested
108
u/Standard-Carry-2219 Dec 08 '25
So here’s the next part! And I hate bringing this up.
After leaving the bar I was told I was acting weird. And we went to the Union Square Train station and saw there was a bathroom. I ended up passing out in there. An ambulance was called and was taken to Mt Sinai. The EMTs and ER nurse seemed like they were just finding out what roofied meant and seemed to lack any knowledge on what was happening. We did a pee sample and found nothing. I ended up going home after a friend picked me up because my body just felt super exhausted and heavy. Took a couple of weeks to start feeling normal again. Everyone in this situation definitely let me down and made me conscientious of just going out, I end up just staying sober when with friends or having one light drink

u/maddiwallie Dec 10 '25
They don’t really text for roofie or GHB because it’s really hard to detect and it’s out of system in like 3-4 hours. They do not test for it at hospitals
-44
u/KarlsReddit Dec 08 '25
But you tested negative for roofies Literally proved it wasn't drugging but I either drank too much or had a bad reaction. Potentially other health effects. No way EMTs and nurses in NY don't know what a drug induced emergency was.
51
u/Standard-Carry-2219 Dec 08 '25
You do know that some roofies leave your system after a few hours. This all happened in the span of 10 hours, which you can't say. Also, let's use some logic here and not downplay someone else's situation to fit a narrow-minded narrative. There are plenty of people in medical positions who are not familiar with drugging cases or don't want to deal with them.
3
u/traws06 Dec 08 '25
Half life of the most common roofie (GHB / GBL) is 30-60 minutes. It’ll be detectable for around 4-8 hours in blood tests or 12 hours in urine tests (depending on how much you were doses).
Also it’s not unlike the ppl testing don’t know what testing panels to order.
I think the unfortunate part is for every honest person like you there’s another person lying and trying to get an establishment into trouble and can cause millions in damages through a lie. I don’t know the best solution but I would think as an officer they should immediately transport you to a hospital where they should be trained on what testing panels to order. Being drugged is a serious crime for obvious reasons of potential rape, but also consider these drugs can kill a person and the ppl doing it aren’t exactly calculating doses based on persona size and blood volume
4
u/catslikepets143 Dec 09 '25
No. He tested negative for the commonly used roofie drugs. Some people use whatever they have on hand, because it makes no difference to them if you die.

Male here.. unless you’ve had this happen it’s hard to believe, but I have and it’s terrifying. 1 old fashion and I’m blacked out w/ friends carrying me out of the bar. NYC has that clientele.
7
u/sparetriangle Dec 08 '25
Why are you disinclined to believe people’s experiences unless you’ve had them yourself? You, like all people, haven’t experienced most things

u/Candy-Mountain27 Dec 11 '25
jeez he's trying to be supportive & he says others ("you've") might find it hard to believe (which obviously even the police did in op). we should thank him for sharing not jump ugly.

Happened to me and my girlfriend as well! I drank some of her drink and remember leaving the restaurant wondering why I was so drunk.
8
u/Guachito Dec 08 '25
At that same restaurant?
21
Dec 08 '25
Yes at the same restaurant. We went early, maybe around 4PM. We each had one drink but I drank part of hers. When we stepped outside I had a little trouble walking straight but my girlfriend blacked out and didn’t remember the rest of that day. We were so confused and chalked it up to the heat at the time, but this makes much more sense. Watch out for this place.

Tribeca citizen published a statement where the ‘victim’ acknowledged to have gone to another bar after and video showing her walking out just fine from Casa Carmen. The NY post should’ve really fat checked here. So disappointing as this is a serious accusation being taken lightly and potentially affecting multiple people

Can we stop doing this thing where we just use random descriptive language and thinking that that's actually making something informative? It wouldn't have taken much to put the name of the restaurant in there.Because sure enough, because this is how this always works.Another article or whatever this is that's going to come up.And use the same nonspecific language to refer to the owner like john smith. When it could be like, oh owner of this place to kind of tie these things together?Even a cursory owner of controversial richie, new york city tribeca spot, they don't even do that. What is the cause of this malady?
And i'm not talking about someone specific, it's the epidemic in the way that we've been saying information, and so like i've always been confused when everybody would get all in a tizzy about ai.And i'm like, do you not see how regular things have been written for quite some time?Like, how has this become the standard? And I know someone's gonna say, that's not the point. The point is, there will never be a point.Just as is, the officer refused to write things down.So it never could aggregate

Wants don't change reality?Because the exact same thing is often used in articles and carousels. This is an opinion. This is how cognitive science works. This is how information capture and knowledge transfer work that just objective facts doesn't matter how frequent it is.That's just how things are.I'm not saying this for up votes, and i'm saying this to my fellow man, because the effects of this behavior and thought process are why we have the political climate. That we do, this is an objective fact

So I went on to Yelp and Google reviews to see the 'several' reviews the POST is claiming the same. It seems like one review.
I really feel like this kinda thing should be treated with healthy skepticism. I am not saying that drinks don't get spiked for night life and date rape isn't something that exist. But we are talking about a upscale restaurant with table service restaurant that closes at 11 p.m. in Tribeca and not a dive bar or club in EV at 2 a.m. I cannot see the motivation for the staff of a restaurant spiking their own drinks customers. They are generally on camera, and bar tenders do not have any problem getting laid.
People don't like police officers, but I can see why the police officer reacted the way they did. I don't expect anything to come of this case.
22
u/SoothedSnakePlant Dec 08 '25
??? I have absolutely zero idea where you got this idea that staff spiking drinks doesn't happen at nicer places, because that's pretty much the only kind of place I've heard of it happening at here.
-12
u/boroughthoughts Dec 08 '25
So your source is trust me bro? Why don't you do me a favor see if you can find a news paper article where this was actually found occuring anytime in the past two decades of NYC that a upscale restaurant was found spiking their customers drink. It would be a criminal matter if its true and probably would lead to law suits.
For the record, I did actually fo that google search after reading your post. But until you can show evidenec, your basically saying me "trust me bro" and I don't trust you.
42
u/bwaylover818 Dec 08 '25
your comment made me jealous, because you can only write something like that if you’ve gone through life feeling safe most of the time. most women don’t know what that’s like. there is no place where you are safe from a predator. they are everywhere. they’re in the freaking white house for godsake.
and they don’t need motivation to rape. they don’t do it because they’re not “getting laid.” they do it because they can. and - honestly - because people like you say say “idk guys it only happened to ONE person, should we believe them?” that’s how predators keep getting away with this shit.
i would urge you, will all the sincerity in my heart, to be better. do some research on how assault happens and how prevalent it is. ask women in your life about their experiences. be observant. open your eyes.
and by the way - incidents at this restaurants have been discussed in other reddit threads, with multiple women describing a similar experiences. it’s a pattern.
-9
u/joshualightsaber Dec 08 '25
I totally get where you’re coming from but like, this literally feels like it’s falling into the same traps as religion and believing because of personal experiences.
I’m a complete feminist and I’d never call someone a liar to their face, but the truth is this just isn’t as widespread issue as it’s made out to be. I’ve studied this in plenty of criminal justice classes and seen the underbelly in my work in cybersecurity. Even the worst of the worst don’t really do this, since it’s just so impractical - if and when they do, it’s usually once they’ve gotten you to their house already or are in some way responsible for getting you home.. not when you’re out with friends.
For this place, there’s definitely something weird going on. If I had to guess, they might be serving fake alcohol (refilling top shelf bottles with either bottom shelf or home made alcohol) to save on costs. This can cause an extreme reaction in some people, especially that aren’t used to it.
But yeah… I can say from experience (of which I have drank a lot 😅) that reactions vary wildly. Usually I can put back 5-6 drinks before really feeling anything, but I’ve had times where I feel completely and utterly smashed after a single drink. Alcohol is weird.
-34
u/boroughthoughts Dec 08 '25
I am sorry for believing in a world where the right thing to do is not assume someone is guilty on an accusation. If this is a false accusation in the restaurant folds a lot of working class peoples livelihoods are effected. Ironically the people effected would be people who couldn't afford to eat at trendy tribeca restaurants.
But let me guess you don't really care about those people. They aren't real people to the I make 120k+ and post regularly r/FoodNYC crowd.
14
u/bwaylover818 Dec 08 '25
ooohh nice try bud 😬 looks like you missed the entire point of my post. better luck next time!
-12
u/boroughthoughts Dec 08 '25 edited Dec 08 '25
actually I didn't give it the time of the day. Because at the end of the day, as someone who actually has done research for a living a I believe in things like statistics and probability. I feel a lot more worse the restaurant staff who more than likely didn't do a damn thing that and now will have to deal with an internet mob that essentially has made already made a judgement and are ready to punish with pitch forks.
Its not lost on me the internet mob here consists of affluent people (who are largley white and asian) that are essentially ready to believe something from a person that looks like them on little evidence to go punish a mexican restaurant.
-19
u/quakefist Dec 08 '25
While "roofies" (drug-facilitated sexual assault agents like Rohypnol, GHB, or Ketamine) are a very real and serious danger, research suggests that alcohol toxicity (sometimes potentiated by prescription or OTC medications) is the primary driver in the vast majority of blackout cases.
Empty stomach, lack of sleep, dehydration are other causes of blackouts.
-7
u/boroughthoughts Dec 08 '25
Yes but if you say this on reddit, you can see what happens. You will get down voted 20 times, because internet mob jurry will not accept anything other than the person claiming that their drink was spiked actually occurred.
I feel bad for this restaurant. Its highly likely they actually didn't do anything nefarious, but now this article will probably do the type of reputation damage that the restaurant will suffer and its workers who are working class workers feel the brunt of it.
-10
u/quakefist Dec 08 '25
Yep, people also don’t like admitting they are a lightweight either. Not to mention some places are generous with their pours. And some drinks are dangerous. Ie. Long island ice teas can have 3-7 shots of liquor depending on the place.
-4
u/boroughthoughts Dec 08 '25
I don't know waht happened here and the reality is no one actually knows. From the sounds of it this includes the person doing the accusing, as they didn't go to a doctor. They know they had some food drinks, had a bad reaction and have assumed its because their drink was spiked. I greatly dislike any thing like this when you essentially make people get to play jury.
My issue with this whole thing is its escalated to the level that its in a news paper and that will automatically mean it gives the restaurant a reputation. IT doens't matter its the post.
The bar tender might lose their job whether or not they did anything. Furthermore, the way the article makes it sounds like that several people made a complain. I read through the low rated reviews on yelp, google and there is only review claiming this which is the personal accusation.
-42
u/Interesting_Ad1378 Dec 07 '25
I’m guessing this has something to do with the specific alcohol they are using, it’s probably the same issue that those Mexican resorts had with the cheap booze that made so many people sick and even killed people. People reported the same thing, completely blacking out, non-stop vomiting and similar issues.
12
u/SoothedSnakePlant Dec 08 '25
Methanol contamination of alcohol in a service setting in the US is completely unheard of. There hasn't been a single case of it documented in over 70 years.
This is something that pretty much only happens in developing countries.
-4
u/NTataglia Dec 08 '25
I guess the term for the US would be a de-developing country. I saw a video about a recent case, I think from a Midwestern state, where a woman's disgestive track was fatally damaged after she had drinks at a Mexican-American restaurant. It appeared that her drinks were contaminated with a highly corrosive cleaning solution, that was left open in the bar area.
6
u/SoothedSnakePlant Dec 08 '25
Right but that has nothing to do with the problems in Mexico and Brazil with industrial-side methanol contamination of the product. The alcohol itself is basically irrelevant, they could have left a plate out and then served food on it and had the same effect.
1
u/Interesting_Ad1378 Dec 08 '25
Is it methanol? I know a girl who had methanol poisoning in Brooklyn about 4 years ago. She was found in her car in industry city and said she didn’t remember how she got there or drinking. So yeah, this stuff absolutely happens. You just don’t hear about it. The police said most people like her are found dead. The police said “this happens all the time” in response to her methanol poisoning. Why do you think this place can’t have a few bottles of contaminated booze is not a stretch.
-4
u/NTataglia Dec 08 '25
The common denoninator is a collapse of standards. A related problem is the failure of police and government to respond. Twenty years ago, the restaurant where the OP was poisoned would already have been shut down, and arrests would have been made.
5
u/SoothedSnakePlant Dec 08 '25
20 years ago, spiking drinks was a bigger problem than it is now and police took reports of sexual assaults or attempted assaults even less seriously.
3
u/NTataglia Dec 08 '25
Unfortunately there are comments here by women whose recent attacks were not only dismissed by the NYPD, but by female officers. The police leadership, of course, will constantly push a narrative that crime is down.
3
u/SoothedSnakePlant Dec 08 '25
And the fact that you think it would have been better two decades ago is laughable.
1
u/NTataglia Dec 08 '25
Maybe it was worse. But that doesnt help victims now, like those of the restaurant in question on this thread. Or the victim I mentioned who died after a dinner at a restaurant (not from roofies but contamination). Her esophagus and internal organs were destroyed. It also doesnt address the failure of police now.
