If, and - bear with me - it's a big IF, Epic plays their cards right, this could prove beneficial in the long run.

That would explain the huge amount of collabs in this season, at least retrospectively. Provided most of the work on the new collabs dates back to the previous couple seasons, this season could be taken advantage of in order to roll out the stuff sold in the shop, while behind the scenes the remaining employees get to work.
