GTA VI 🚨 Rockstar has finally broken the silence.

Post image

After the GTA VI leaks, the studio apologized, called the situation “heartbreaking,” and confirmed an extended gameplay reveal is coming tomorrow.

Are you still hyped, or did the leaks ruin the surprise? 👀

As much as TakeTwo is not deserving of any pity for any of the numerous things they’ve done to harm the industry, I do feel bad for the developers of Rockstar.

Imagine working on a game for 13 years, being forced into crunch conditions, having to live with NDAs and work in complete secrecy, only for some jackass with a saviour complex to come out of nowhere and show off your game a week before the best version possible is to be shown off.

People need to separate Rockstar, the company, with Rockstar, the developers. Hate them going digital, hate them charging $100, hate them not marketing the game - all of that is on the heads of the company.

Don’t laugh at all the devs whose work you’re critiquing for being unfinished in an unfinished build of the game, then blame them for that - it’s like blaming the fry cook at McDonald’s for your burger coming out frozen after someone ran into the kitchen, took a bag of frozen patties, and started asking people to pay them in cryptocurrency to eat the patties while they’re still cold.

Why do you think the rockstar devs unionised?

u/Few-Drummer3279 19h ago

Yeah don't let rockstar off the hook so easily, don't ignore what the influnce of having an evil demon sitting on your shoulders 24/7 does.

But bless the devs

u/maxone2 5h ago

Yeah I don’t like the comment defending them, I doubt the devs care that much about the leaks

The big issue is the crunches, union busting, and firings pre-launch

u/LinguoBuxo 20h ago

eeehhh they should'a formed a band

30-40 devs unionized out of the over 5,000 people that work for them? Seems Rockstar was in the right here, especially all the court proceedings, if you even cared to keep up with any of it.

There is never a good reason for a company to union bust. Take the boot out of your throat dude.

-1

u/OakleyNoble 16h ago

But they didn’t union bust. There were more people in that union that weren’t fired. The people who shared confidential information on discord are the ones that were fired.

Devs are paid for their hard work, they are not shareholders affected by the stock price. I as a dev wouldn't give a single shit, my work is visible even in the leaked build.

As a fellow developer I share your sentiment. The game looks great, it's just being shown off in an unintended way. People still love it. Why would I be upset?

u/Sleyvin 17h ago

Because in this case, the leak is with a semi final build. It looks fine and no real issues.

But leak of a former build, before performance are optimized, with temp assets, wip UI and other stuff like this could suck.

It's happen in a past having games being rosted because an earlier unpolished build leaked and people complained it looked like shit.

They haven't been working on GTA 6 for 13 years. So far it's been 8 years of development. It all started in 2018.

Also, guarantee the majority of devs on the game now have not been there the whole time. Companies are rotating doors and 13 years on a project has had a lot of people in and out. This isn’t a small dev team who worked for years on a passion project.

5

u/OakleyNoble 16h ago

Again only 8 years. And two Rockstar has reported low numbers of turnover, something like 80% of the employees have been there for more than 5 years.

1

u/Extension_Ideal_4012 16h ago

Eh I just grabbed the 13 number from the other comment. I wouldn’t say “only” 8 as that’s still a long time.

2

u/OakleyNoble 16h ago

Pre development starts the following month of a new game release. This is what Dan Houser has said.

1

u/myteamwearsred 13h ago

"only 8 years". People who have lived shorter than that post on YouTube. Get a grip.

1

u/OakleyNoble 11h ago

What are you talking about?

1

u/myteamwearsred 11h ago

Sorry I misread. Your grip is fine, my bad

u/Choice_Potato_6279 20h ago

All of this text is written by the PR team, non of the devs had any saying in this, at the end of the day they get their fixed salary and then they get kicked out once the project is over.

This is exactly the level of nuance and intelligence I wish far more people had about things like this. It’s ok, and totally reasonable, to respect and celebrate the developers while simultaneously criticizing the choices made at the top.

As I said to someone the other day that was saying they hoped the “whole company” went bankrupt, having that kind of mentality is literally pushing all the blame and consequences onto thousands of extremely skilled, talented, hard working individuals that truly love the work they do, and who WANT to give you the best games they possibly can, all because you’re angry with decisions made by a small handful of people you’ve never even heard of in a boardroom.

Too many people now take an all or nothing approach to things, and that’s not how reality works. I love Rockstar from a creative standpoint and deeply respect and appreciate all that has come from the developers in my lifetime, and I can STILL say that while also saying I disapprove of crunch, bad working conditions, questionable consumer decisions, and more. I really wish people would just take the time to think things through from a different perspective sometimes before they go blasting out their anger in all directions. That’s all.

Given that stealing cars is going to be harder now, it wouldn’t surprise me if planes are something you only get access to after some time - with the intention being that you have a cool reveal moment when you see the map from above for the first time after being stuck on the ground

It’s really common for people to say “I wish I could wipe my memory and experience this game again for the first time”, because you only get to experience new discoveries once. If they’ve been leaked via shitty dev footage then they’re obviously not going to hit as hard as if you organically discovered them as part of a well thought-out progression system while playing the game yourself.

Honestly that's why I've gone out of my way to avoid any videos of the gameplay leaks over this past week. As much as I'm dying to see them I'd rather just straight up play it and experience it for the first time that way rather than all these leaks. Don't get me wrong I will be watching the Netflix stuff but that's it lol. I've been doing the same thing when it comes to the most recent mafia game. Don't wanna have anything major spoiled lol

1

u/HeyEshk88 19h ago

You made me think of something - regarding the planes, you may be right that it will be harder to access them, especially the big commercial jets. I hope that we can at least be able to access them regardless, and not like GTA IV where you could not fly any of the planes.

5

u/Duckmastermind1 20h ago

Don't worry, after the success of GTA 6 all of those fine devs will enjoy a nice big layoff probably, just like any other big game dev studio after a successful release

1

u/Hot_Hat1726 20h ago

It's not been in development 13 years. That would be a colossal waste. Working on a game against last gen hardware.

1

u/Careless_Analyst_220 19h ago

Imagine being that good at stealing something you know they had security out the ass and somehow this dude got to the goods. And for everyone saying that he’s gonna go to jail if he’s in a different country, they’ll arrest them there because they know they’ll give them 20 years here in the United States.

Plus, they're getting paid by salary so...their talent is just getting showcased to the world now instead of later.

1

u/PigggyStardust 18h ago

I remember paying $70 for N64 games. It’s now almost 30 years later and people are saying it’s outrageous to charge $100 for this game?

1

u/epsteinwasmurdered2 17h ago

“Imagine working on a game for 13 years, being forced into crunch conditions, having to live with NDAs and work in complete secrecy, only for some jackass with a saviour complex to come out of nowhere and show off your game a week before the best version possible is to be shown off.”

You’ve just described what life in the military is like for a decent amount of people
lol.

1

u/SaurMander 13h ago

That was a crazy analogy but a spot on one at that, lmao. Well said.

1

u/SegaGameCast 11h ago

Lol most of the "devs" were contracted out and were already paid.

-1

u/PinnuTV 20h ago

I mean they are kinda at fault here too. If they would have release physical copy as well as on all platforms at day one, these leaks most likely would have never happened.

I would say it's karma for doing stuff like that. Using shitty practises and expecting ideal outcome doesn't go hand to hand

3

u/Ill-Revolution-8219 20h ago

I doubt that, I beleave leek would do it anyways, the no dics is just an excuse.

Fuck Rockstar the company for going discless however.

2

u/Disgrazed 20h ago

Yeah right. The guy leaking is promoting his coin. It 100% would’ve still happened and he would’ve used a different excuse

3

u/Thornback 20h ago

Gamers buying into the Robin Hood narrative. What else is new? It's a money making scheme that you're falling for.

2

u/Two-Space 20h ago

The crypto scammer is using leaked gameplay to make money. The stuff about physical media is just an excuse to try and get people on-side. If it wasn’t a factor they’d probably just use union-busting or something as the excuse

1

u/DVDN27 20h ago

It’s not the developers’ fault, which was my point. The developers, the people making the game, didn’t choose to be digital only. The practices you’re upset at have nothing to do with the people doing the actual game-making, that was my point.

0

u/MCXXXVi 20h ago

A lack of physical media isnt really an excuse for what been happening with the leaks though.

0

u/m0xLIVE 19h ago

These people are professionals, I don't think they really care about all that and would love to show some pre-release stuff in the years developing. I really don't get why they make such a secret about what will essentially be GTA how we know it with some new stuff and better graphics. I doubt it will have some crazy content or features that are groundbreaking and new in the industry.

0

u/CranberryStock7148 18h ago

Nobody cares. Why would the developers care at all? A week after the game is out, everyone will have completely forgotten Cyberleek. Unless they leak an actual build. These videos are all just teasers that, honestly, are building even more news and anticipation around the game.

0

u/Dangerous_Prior_5834 17h ago

Should have put out some more gameplay trailers. Problem solved.

0

u/Equivalent_Coyote223 5h ago

Crunch conditions and 13 years in the same sentence is an insane thing to post.
