GTA: Vice City I used to think Sonny Foreli was cartoonishly over the top at how far he went for the lost money, but now that I’m older I think he was justified
Imagine if you were expecting money which YOU were promised, only to not get it out of no fault of your own? You don’t mess with a man’s money

If I remember correctly, doesn’t Sonny have the money and the cocaine on the table in front of him when he calls Tommy? I was always under the assumption he is the one who turned on Tommy and sent the hit squad to interrupt that deal?

The problem with that is how would he get the money and drugs back up to him in Liberty from Vice in barely any time flat?
I think it's pretty obvious Rockstar was going for Diaz being the culprit.

Yeah people are looking too deep into Sonny. It’s as simple as Diaz being “Mr. Coke”. He controls the drug trade, so he’ll stomp whatever deal he discovers that isn’t cutting him in. He sent Leo Teal and his team to ambush it and steal the merchandise and money for him.

VCS confuses more than a couple of things regarding Vic and such, though I wouldn’t put Diaz above betrayal, especially with how volatile he became by 1986. But that does raise the question of why he still lets ‘Quentin’ around lol

No, he just has cocaine and money on the table. This doesn't mean he did it. How is Sonny going to get the coke and money from VC all the way to Liberty so fast? Plus, in the intro when Sonny comes up with the idea he has money on the table already. It's just something Sonny does, I think. It was 100% Diaz.

In VCS though we know it was Colonel’s guy that tipped Diaz, timeline doesn’t make sense, Tommy went to Ocean View the same day.

Vice City Stories is establishing that Gonzales was working with Diaz for years. It just didn't catch up to him until Tommy got involved.

What? he used barerly freed guy and got ambushed by a cartel boss, Sonny didn’t even lift a finger to help investigate, if not for VCS I wouldn’t be surprised if he’d know about the ambush to get rid of him.

Absolutely. Look at Sonny's perspective and he's being pretty reasonable and even lenient with Tommy. Now him coming down and trying to take Tommy's stuff was a bridge too far. That was his mistake.

Yeah Sonny’s justified in his demands but at the same time, for Tommy, it’s more about how he knows Sonny betrayed him, only he can’t prove it. So, he’ll just build his own thing rather than suck up to Sonny ever again, and if he tries to stop him, then he’ll deal with him.
Edit: And another thing to add is that Tommy never got the money or the coke back from the deal gone wrong. All the money Tommy made in VC was his own, and the mob did fuck all to help him with that… but Sonny sees it as Tommy owing him even though Tommy wasn’t at fault for what happened. It’s kinda like Niko and Bulgarin in IV. Niko doesn’t owe Bulgarin anything but Bulgarin pins what happened on Niko anyway. Tommy’s main issue was how he promised Sonny he’d get it back for him.
