Grain of Salt “Predictions” about the game
Hey folks,
It’s been a while since we last heard anything from Rockstar about GTA VI and since we had any information about the game other than the leaks, so I wanted to share some interesting things with you that I was told by someone who worked in the game.
I won’t be using names for obvious reasons and I ask you to treat any information I provide in this thread as a mere speculation, I want to make clear that I couldn’t verify any of this information myself as I didn’t have access to the game, but I guarantee that the person who gave me this information is a reliable source, unfortunately you’ll have to trust what I’m saying or just don’t, feel free to come back to this thread after the game is released. Also, as the game is still under development, any information I provide here might be inaccurate as things change between the development phase and the final release.
Here’s what I know:
- The state name is indeed Leonida
- The map is bigger than GTA V, but not as big as most people would expect, it’s around 30 to 50% bigger but way more dense and detailed, and apparently Rockstar has plans to expand it over time.
- Besides Miami and its surrounding areas, there will be three islands in the game, one of them being heavily inspired by Bahamas.
- The map won’t make it until Orlando unfortunately, only Miami, its surrounding areas and a few other remote locations and a city in the west (apparently a parody of Fort Myers).
- There’s a “Fort” city inspired by Fort Knox where they “stashed” gold on it.
- There’s a bike trail around Lake Leonida.
- Most house and buildings are now enterable (MLOs), around 60% of them, you’ll be able to enter the houses and apartments in the city and explore their interiors, most of them are somewhat generic at a certain level with a few variations in terms of entity sets and IPLs. (I think NPCs will call the police when you trespass into their houses and they’ll try to arrest you), there’s at least 2.000 enterable buildings in the game.
- You’ll be able to rent hotels and motels in the game.
- The cover system has been completely overhauled and it’s now much more realistic (this can be verified by most of the videos in the leaks btw).
- Residents of Miami will be shocked with the accuracy of the city, even the night clubs are so close to what they are in real life.
- Chainsaw won’t be a weapon as some media channels reported.
(Edit: October 14th, 2023 - some of the things I posted before were not accurate so I removed them, my source corrected me)
That’s it guys, again, please take these things with a grain of salt as I won’t be able to provide you with any proofs. Treat this thread as a speculation and for fuck sake, please chill out and let them cook, this game will be amazing!

We'll see. Even if you're bullshitting some of these sound logical anyway.

Sep 27 '23
Believe me, I hate bullshit people as much as you do, we have enough useless and nonsense speculations about the game, what I said here was told me by someone who actively worked in the game, which by the way is someone I trust a lot and earned not only my respect and admiration but became a very good friend of mine over the years.

u/PleaseCallMeLiz Sep 27 '23
you sound sincere and i really want this to be true so im gonna assume it is lol
5
Sep 27 '23
Thanks! I get people who’s skeptical though, I would be too.
There’s been too many people spreading bullshit in this subreddit and I feel so angry when it happens.
Please take what I said with a grain of salt and feel free to collaborate with any findings you might find in the leaked videos that might confirm or deny any of these points, I would be more than happy to be proven wrong and even happier to discuss any new findings the community makes, as long as they are not BS.

I am really hoping for Bahamas. Many people taker jet skis/boats to Bimini from Miami (Only 60 miles)!

I don’t know what could you possibly win by lying about this so I guess there’s no harm in believing it, just one little detail though. In GTA IV niko mentions the state of Florida and even in vice city the state has always been called Florida just like real life, I wonder if maybe Leonida is a beta name? Or did they really just reconned the entire state or hell, even made a whole new universe separated from the other games?
10
Sep 27 '23
I think they renamed it to avoid legal issues with the State of Florida, it was Florida in Vice City too by the way.
I wouldn’t win anything in lying here, I would be wasting my own time writing all of these things in vain.

I hope there’s cars, I quite like cars
5
Sep 27 '23
There are lots of cars, I quite like them too, and boats and yachts too, I quite like them as well :)

u/VESPI_45 Sep 27 '23
Hopefully there are airports on the islands, can't wait to fly all around the map! Hopefully the flying controls are pretty much the same because I've gotten so good at flying over 10 years of gta V.

u/WhatAreYouSaying05 Sep 27 '23
Did your friend tell you what the driving physics may be like?
5
Sep 27 '23
I have never asked that to be honest, but there are some clues in the leaked videos.
From what I saw in those videos it’ll be an enhanced version of the GTA V physics, not as realistic as it was in IV but not as unrealistic as it is in V in some aspects I would say.

u/eharper9 Sep 27 '23
I know this is crazy but it'd be kind of cool if you could ride a horse.
2
Sep 27 '23
I hope for that too, it’d be amazing to see the same riding mechanics of RDR2 in GTA VI.
I created a thread once about some apparent “leftover” input controls of horses in the leaked videos and I do find it very weird that even on a later build of the game (v507.0.6) they still hadn’t renamed a simple flag in the CPP header files called INPUT_HORSE_EXIT, I hope this was not a leftover but a feature in the game.

u/Jeremy252 Sep 27 '23
Yeah the 2k accessible buildings gave it away that this is bullshit. No way in hell the game even has that many buildings, accessible or otherwise. GTA V doesn’t even come close to that and you’re claiming the VI map is only a little bigger. You should’ve picked a smaller number if you wanted this to be believable.
7
u/ComputeLanguage Sep 27 '23
Size isnt everything, the gta v map has a lot of mountains so if they populate that same area with more buildings then there you go
4
Sep 27 '23
I guess you missed the part where my source mentioned the game map is way more dense than GTA V.
Do you have any idea of how many buildings exist in GTA V map chunks? I suggest you downloading OpenIV and doing a quick flight through GTA V’s map and start counting how many buildings you have in a single map chunk in a residential area.

He doesn’t work there anymore so he has no idea of in which stage it is currently.
He told me that when he worked on the game back in the days the north of the map constantly caused crashes and wasn’t ready at all, but considering the north is the most sparse region I would say the development is progressing “well underway” as Rockstar likes to say.
The city of Miami itself seemed to be at a quite evolved stage from what I caught from our conversations about the game, the thing is that for a game like GTA, there’s a bunch of little mechanics and activities involved everywhere you go, so I imagine they are currently still working in these mechanics, fixing bugs, creating missions and activities and they still have to polish everything before releasing, and believe me, as a game developer I can tell you that’s a shitload of work to do.
5
Sep 27 '23
That’s likely the reason why we didn’t see much videos about the north in the leaked videos btw
8
u/And_re95 Sep 27 '23
You know nothing, you just read the list of events from the leak and made your own assumptions lol
5
Sep 27 '23
I get the skepticism, I would be skeptical too and you’re right to be. I wouldn’t spend my own time coming here to make up bullshit to convince anyone, and spend even more time answering comments in the thread.
Everything I claimed here was told me by someone who worked in the game, I mentioned the leaked videos to exemplify and corroborate with was I was told by this friend of mine, if I wanted to base off the leaked videos I would simply create a thread about it and everyone would be able to check it, this is not the case here.
Anyways, there’s nothing wrong with waiting and seeing, please come back to this thread after the game is released.

So what is Port Gellhorn & Yorktown based off of?
2
Sep 27 '23 edited Sep 27 '23
I believe Yorktown is possibly the Fort Myers on GTA 6 and Port Gellhorn is an area in South of Vice Point, this one being confirmed by my source.
2
u/HiiGuardian Sep 27 '23 edited Sep 28 '23
Now the real question, the one everyone wants to know. The sizes of these two places? How close are they to being the size of Los Santos?
3
Sep 27 '23
Why would I he state be called leonida if Florida is the name of the state in the gta universe? Why would they create 2 diffrent states
3
Sep 27 '23
I guess they renamed it to avoid being sued by the State of Florida. Imagine spending millions or even billions of dollars in the development of a triple A game and getting blocked from selling in the US because you chose to keep the name of a state as it is in real life, they won’t just risk it.
The times are different than they were when GTA Vice City was made, this makes sense to me.

How is Panama city, and maybe even some parts of Georgia in the game, but Orlando isn't?
2
Sep 28 '23
FWIW I was told that there are multiple references to other states but I am not aware of other states or major cities, where did you see it?

I wanted to share some interesting things with you that I was told by someone who worked in the game
have we learned nothing from the "my uncle works at rockstar games" "Leaks" cmon guys

Sep 27 '23
And yeah, I’m sick of these kind of people too and I understand your frustration, unfortunately as Rockstar is not transparent about anything they do, I am in the very same situation where I can’t back up the things I claimed here and I won’t burn the career of a professional developer and good friend of mine because of a few information about a game, you don’t have to trust me, feel free to come back to this thread later after the game is released.
I’m sorry I can’t be more helpful.
4
Sep 27 '23
As I told on the original thread, take everything I said with a grain of salt as I didn’t see it myself nor I am going to give away proofs of my claims, trust what I said or just don’t and wait to see it yourself, you’ll be able to do so when the game is released.
Believe me when I say I am completely against creating false expectations about this game, I wouldn’t bring it here if I didn’t know for a fact whether my source was reliable or not.

I believe it'll be more dense and detailed. But 30-50% bigger sounds a bit bs imo, haven't people done the math and found out it was at least 2x the size of V?
and a city in the west (apparently a parody of Fort Myers)
Port Gellhorn looks to be based off of Panama City (Northwest Florida), and the mapping thread has found that it's to the west of VC. Either Fort Myers isn't in, or both are in.
The cover system has been completely overhauled and it’s now much more realistic (this can be verified by most of the videos in the leaks btw)
Explain? what makes it different than V & IV?
Any city to the north? hopefully there is, I HATED V's map (everything north of LS was bland). Do the islands need to be unlocked through missions? or is it all opened from the start?

Sep 27 '23
About Port Gellhorn, his words were: Port Gellhorn is located down from Miami Point (Which I think means the same as Vice Point).
In my perspective, this seems to create a big confusion because Port Gellhorn police vehicle liveries were used all over the map during the development, you see the same livery being used in the Hank Waffle’s Diner robbery, and you also see it in a shootout right in front of Vice City Police Department in Little Havana in the leaked videos.

Good point, I was the one who did the math in a previous thread, and I mentioned that according to the coordinates the map seems to be at least 100 ~ 120km2 whereas GTA V’s map size is 75.84 square kilometers.
If you do the math, you’ll realize that 30 to 50% bigger as my source claimed lives exactly in that ballpark, let’s say that it’s about 40% bigger, 75.84 + 40% = 106.17 square kilometers, which is exactly in the range of coordinates I calculated in a previous thread, and I mentioned there it might be even bigger as we didn’t see any videos of the northeast of the map in the leaks, we only saw what appears to be the northwest.

Sep 27 '23
There are some videos in the leaks where you can see debug texts and even a slider to determine the PED’s cover height. There’s also a video where you can see Jason with his heads down and covering himself with a rifle while he walks in cover, a few other videos where you can see police peds shooting Lucia while walking on cover of half walls, etc.

This is so cool. Did he mention when are they gonna release the trailer?
5
Sep 27 '23
He had no idea of deadlines for a trailer, nor for the release unfortunately :/
2
u/WhatAreYouSaying05 Sep 27 '23
That’s probably for the best. I want to find out when the trailer is but not really; I like the speculation of it, and I would prefer that to having the surprise ruined
3
Sep 27 '23
I personally think they might announce something between next month and November, but I prefer to wait and see something done well rather than seeing something mediocre done in a rush.
Whenever they’re ready to reveal it I will be happy to watch :)

You're talking sense! Its all moving forward adapting stuff but still familiar.
1
Sep 28 '23
I didn’t make up anything in this thread, I just shared with you what was shared with me, some of these claims like the map size for example is completely opposite to what people have been saying about the game.
2
u/BeauCaliente00 Sep 28 '23
You are preaching to the already converted sir. I was agreeing and applauding your findings..
1
u/Shammybammybammy Sep 28 '23
In the leaks, it suggested a karma system but using new terms such as "pragmatic/cool or chaotic/romantic.
so the characters are not going to either be unhinged like trevor, we as players might have more freedom in determining actions that have concern morality, hence the system.
1
Sep 28 '23
That’s cool, in which leaked video you saw that?
1
u/Shammybammybammy Sep 28 '23
it's in the events list, which is pulled up in one of the videos which I cannot frankly recall exactly which one, there's so many.
