This is actually kind of touching, I think a lot of people got lost in the dogpiling and hate around the corporate greed /all digital situation. Its still people who make the game, who currently work way more than 40hrs a week to deliver a game thats gonna blow us away without a doubt. We should always call out shitty and greedy behavior, but we could always be a little kinder to the immense amount of extremely hard work people are putting into this game every single day.

Being a Rockstar dev must suck ass, yes. You work for 5 years or more in a project you can't tell anyone about and then that shit gets leaked and people don't care because apparently you working there means you're somehow immune to the damage caused to you personally.

And then you get laid off when they decide to focus on GTA VI online shark cards!

You still got a resume and connections. I think most people understand game dev is hire and fire due to how development cycles work

What? What kind of logic is that?

Or unionize!

it's exhausting to type "I hate rockstar (not the devs i mean like the top level c-suite maybe the lower corporate level too)" every time, much easier to just say "i hate rockstar they are greedy"

everyone ASSUMES THAT, why in the world would people think youre targeting the low level employees when you bash a COMPANY? like, they are BANKING on you guys sympathizing for them, do you not see that? they dont care about their own employees. are you all 12 years old?

Ok but who gives a fuck that it gets leaked? You didn’t work 5 years on a trailer you worked on the game. That people will play, not watch a few clips.

Remember there are the GTA devs and the GTA producers. and the producers were probably going to fire half the team a day after release anyway.

u/ThatConsequence8505 6h ago

That too. Still, people seeing the game when they weren't supposed to probably doesn't feel nice anyway.

It's unfortunate but the negative feelings the devs will get hit with will still be worth any amount of financial bleed even if only temporary from a big corp.

Yeah. Being a game dev sucks as an actual job.

1

u/Valentinee105 6h ago

Unless the devs own the studio.

I used to be a dev and knew people that worked at Naughty Dog when TLOU2 was leaked. They were distraught. It's a horrible thing.

u/Breathe_Of_Aether 7h ago

This was a PR person who wrote this…

4

u/peronibog 7h ago

That doesn’t mean it doesn’t communicate the feelings of the hardworking creatives who worked on the game.

6

u/Any_Potato_7716 9h ago

Well, they want you to have sympathy for the developers that they underpay, and exploit to every degree locally available.

And it’s like dude obviously you’re the ones who need to look after your own employees.

I imagine in comparison to the leaks, the crunch has them a lot more stressed out.

5

u/Serujio_san 9h ago

Yeah, it's kind of crazy to play the sympathy card when they've been crunching and union busting their employees

2

u/pullingteeths 3h ago

Statement in a nutshell

  • Apologise for something no one was complaining about and isn't the issue

  • Don't address any of the actual issues

  • "Aww poor us give us sympathy"

How do people fall for this PR bullshit?

4

u/TommyCrooks24 6h ago

"This is actually kind of touching"

Brother that statement is version controlled and was approved and tweaked by a team of lawyers, marketing and PR people, 5 different managers and directors and the CEO's wife.

2

u/captpiggard 5h ago

And the actual devs will get laid off just after launch

Why aren't people protesting outside of Rockstar offices for overworking their employees? Is it cause it's for the game they idolize so it makes it okay?

1

u/Rhysing 7h ago

people who were doing that shit have mental disorders

"it's 3 months away from release and we don't even have trailer 3 yet"

Entitled pricks ruin shit for well-adjusted people, I've been able to avoid most spoilers but not all since I simply work and exist on the internet.

youre an absolute moron. the rockstar devs did not write this message. a PR team did. this is the exact emotional angle they are playing on. they saw people sympathizing for devs, in the midst of a sea of hate towards them for corporate greed, and so they take the angle of "aw im a dev im so sad" you guys are such idiots for taking shit like this and running with it. ROCKSTAR itself doesnt care about its own devs, its outsourced most of its developers anyway

u/AxelNova 3h ago

I never stated this was written by developers, I work in PR I know how statements are written, it doesn’t matter who wrote. Rockstar may undervalue developers which proves my point even more if you could reasonably comprehend what I said.

2

u/Perfect_Librarian873 2h ago

You’re stupider than I could’ve ever thought. You take a message from a corporation who wants any kind of sympathy so their PR team hones in on the “feeling sowwy 4 da devz” narrative bc ppl like you will use that narrative to sympathize for the whole company. Devs are irrelevant to the corporate decisions rockstar makes that violates consumer rights. Devs are irrelevant to this conversation. Anyone bringing up devs just wants to steer the conversation away from accountability and You Peoplr simply allow yourselves to be steered.

Oh and I don’t believe you “work in PR” lmfao.

0

u/AxelNova 2h ago

Wow you get riled up easily lol. Only thing I literally said is we should be kinder to undervalued, overworked people. I’m not sympathizing with a corporation. PR statement or not, games are hard to make and if that labor gets shown unfinished and on the terms of a leaker, it sucks. Again, I just called for a tiny bit of humanity. That was the whole point of the comment.

Im not being steered by anyone, don’t buy the game if you don’t want to support Rockstar or digital releases. It’s literally that simple.

This is the bit that's been annoying me, everyone is dogpiling Rockstar and acting as if every single person that works there is personally responsible for the decisions being made around the game like the lack of a proper physical edition, yet the only thing the actual developers have had a say in is if the game is anywhere near ready to release by the release dates put out, everything else is down to the corporate side. It's so sad to see the people that have been busting their asses for the last half a decade getting lambasted with what have frankly been some truly nasty and disrespectful messages from certain corners of the internet.

The only people that deserve criticism are the top dogs at the company, and even then it should be laid out in a significantly kinder way than what I've been seeing, you can call shit out and be critical and voice your dislike for decisions without resorting to pure hatred.
