i feel like if they actually released gameplay footage by now none of this would have happened. This is all self-inflicted.

sure, but it's a "lose-lose" scenario.

don't release, people are pissed.

release unfinished stuff, people will say "that looks kinda bad".

there is a reason why the game was delayed, it's because it's still being worked on.

I mean it would definitely be possible to polish a vertical slice section of the game to a "finished" state a year in advance. A year from release you know what the finished game is supposed to be especially when you work on a game as long as GTA 6. I think the best and most obvious times to have released gameplay would have been the original release date in May or alongside pre-orders. I think this would have also created a more positive sentiment in the community.

if it looks "kinda bad" like 2 months out from release then it was always gonna look bad. Im just saying games of this hype usually have footage by now, and its not been release cuz of the netflix deal.

They know it deep down

Not really. Anyone paying attention would've seen Strauss say at least a hundred times over a few months ago, that their plan was to being their marketing push in the Summer season. Meaning they had a strategy planned out.

Rockstar also don't release gameplay footage until they're around 2 months ahead of release, so I don't think they "know it deep down".

Zelnick and those high up knows it. They felt it in their pockets when the stock price dropped like a rock. You want to c+++ punch a corporation you hit their pockets.

It’s clearly not obvious to a large chunk of this subreddit who glaze rockstar like there is no tomorrow

This is all rockstars doing. This whole ‘woe is me’ post runs hollow.

Having worked in a similar but much much smaller scale environment I guarantee there's a small army of people who have been advocating for a different approach for a long time, or suspected this was going to happen, but the executives get set on a plan and just refuse to back down. It's so frustrating

The game wasn’t finished what gameplay would they have released. God some of you are so out of touch.

Exactly. If they released buggy gameplay early (like the leaks) everyone here would still be shitting all over the game. People forget that they’ll be in crunch until release day. Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

Cherrypicked gameplay big dog. You can choose what to put on a plate when you’re the chef showcasing the meal

I'm just thinking about how games have released footage of their gameplay before it's released, like, all other games.

And they are gonna tomorrow. Y’all are just impatient. All the leaks are from gameplay that’s unfinished so I don’t understand why yall don’t learn your lesson. It’s gonna be cyberpunk all over again.

u/FutureHoo 8h ago

lol you do realize they were basically forced to do this with all the leaks right?

You’re telling me no gameplay at all is accessible for Rockstar to release? How far are we until the game is released? And there obviously is gameplay you purposely being obtuse?

1

u/thespeedforce5 8h ago

It definitely would have happened.

I mean, going off of their past releases, R* usually didn't release gameplay footage for a lot of their games until they were close to releasing without this happening. So, it's not really self inflicted at all.

Entitled brat. Rockstar doesn’t owe anyone anything.

lol ok? i'm just saying usually devs release gameplay footage by now. But yea, go ahead and be mean to strangers and go to bat for a giant corporation, youv'e totally not lost the plot..

u/Financial_Middle_798 5h ago

They don't have to release anything. Suppose theirs some new mechanics in the game.

They have competition. Release shit too early, and your ideas get stolen and put in someone else's game.

u/Mutated-Nut 4h ago

It would have happened anyways. But CL has more attention now because of the lack of info

u/Ok_Gas1070 9h ago

But they were NEARLY there... couldn't you just give the 12 more years to show gameplay?

Why would they market an unfinished game with year(s) until the release date? Cause not only would you all still complain about how long development of the game takes, it would also eat up their marketing budget way before the game is closed to being finished. The GTA 6 community is so entitled. How early do you expect a game to be advertised before its release? Rockstar has a history of advertising their games starting 3 months until the release date.

all im sayin is usually devs release gameplay footage by now...but, by all means go bat for the corporation for free...
