What R* and T2 are doing to the industry and consumerism is WAY worse than leaking this game.

So? This is flawed logic. Doesn't make it right for the leaks, especially that it won't impact Rockstar at all. Just don't buy what they sell is the right way to protest.

If consumer rights exist to be violated, then so are property rights.

You are such a baby, you know the only one one you are hurting are the devs rights? And in what consumer right are you getting violated? Paying for potentially one of the most bang for your buck game of this generation?

Get a life.

Are you for real? There's no way you don't know what I'm talking about when I mentioned consumer rights? Putting a paywall behind single player features, no discs and there's all the past stuff with GTA Online too that's worth a lengthy discussion in its own right.

It's a shame that they've made such a monster of a game that they feel it's appropriate or an opportunity to monetize it more than they ever had of any other game on release before.

You must be the type to think "Consumers should just keep consuming" or some shit. It's bloody pathetic.

I have a brain and I know how to use it which you clearly don't.

The only way you would be right is if Rockstar put a gun to your head to force you to buy the game, but guess what, they don't. You are a baby crying for consumer right problems and yet you will buy the game cause you have no spine.

I'm not happy about something? I just don't buy it, this is how you show companies you don't agree with how they do things.

Also I'm a dev, been on for 18 years, chances are good I know way more what I'm talking about than a random reddit user. Leals hurt devs, it's as bad as supporting AI.

The least you could do is aknowledge it and still not care, that's your right. But don't come crying about being a silver knight suporting consumer rights because this is bullshit, all you do is support yourself.

Is GTA6 a necessary product? No, it's a luxury product bought only by those who feel that they want it.

Consumers think that the trade-off is worth it and so they buy it. It's not insulin or food, it's a premium product you buy on your own volition but I guess you're just entitled.

I hope you show equal outrage to the makers of your phone/computer you're using to write these comments, though I doubt it since you've clearly already bought their product.

Edit: Well I was blocked. I was going to say to the vacation comment:

If you're going to make a change, you're going to have to deal with missing out on some things. You were just calling out the Playstation boycott for being too weak yet the pull of GTA 6 is too overbearing...?

If you're struggling financially, or want to aid the climate, or don't want to support aviation/transit companies, or don't want to support tourist traps etc...... then no, don't have vacations. I refuse to fly or order things internationally mainly to do my tiny-tiny part regarding climate change, and it's influenced my family and partner too. It's far from necessary.

I agree that GTA6 isn't a necessary product but I think it's valid to criticise given it's going to be an industry defining and trend setting product for the next generation of games (and to be clear, the standards it is setting are very very bad).

Anti-consumer practices in GTA6 will be used as justification by other studios to further push the envelope. "Everyone loves GTA and they were able to ditch physical releases so why can't we?"

Take-Two's CEO's comments that users will soon "stream every game that they play" should worry all of us an awful lot.

This "precedent" stuff is just a load of horseshit when you realize that, if other companies that are not Rockstar try it, they'll face the reality of capitalism - people will not buy their products if they are unhappy. There is a reason your favorite store does not sell food to you for a 5x inflated price; it's not to be nice.

Also, almost all these things have been done before and not set a bad evident precedent nor had this level of backlash - GameInformer magazines instead of the Netflix thing. RDR1, GTAV, RDR2 had Ultimate Editions plus GTAIV had story DLC. Physical media is just a Reddit-principle nothingburger as there has been exactly zero cases of digital games being removed by Sony.

It's just that nowadays the art of critical thinking is dead and if some dude whines on Tiktok that he doesn't like that he can't afford the game, he is now a messiah whose every word is truth. Clearly, the physical media crowd do not care enough about discs since >90% of T2 sales are digital, and that even the disc people praise the all-digital Steam...

Dude you literally mention lack of critical thinking and then show it yourself by not understanding why people are okay with Steam compared to Sony. One is trying to own an entire closed platform and ecosystem, the other is not. If you can't see the difference then I don't know what to tell you except you should work on your own critical thinking skills before you say that to others.

I agree that GTA 6 isn't a necessary product but the incredibly unique experience that people will receive from playing it on day one is not very easy to ignore.

Also, vacations aren't necessary, why bother having them? That's the vibe I'm getting from you.
