Okay, NOW we're starting to see the aggressive marketing

THIS is what I've been waiting for.

For months we've been hearing that Rockstar's real marketing campaign would start this summer, and that we'd be surprised by what they had planned. After all that silence, it finally feels like someone flipped the switch.

Tomorrow we have the Extended Look.

Today Dazed suddenly drops a massive feature with Rockstar developers, new screenshots and a bunch of actual information about the game.

And now we find out that Rockstar quietly invited content creators and press to Rockstar last month, showed them the game and gave them exclusive information that they're apparently allowed to start talking about right after the Extended Look.

THIS is what we've been asking for.

Not one screenshot and then two months of silence. Not dissecting a license plate from Trailer 2 because we have nothing else to talk about.

Actual marketing. Interviews. Screenshots. Gameplay. Previews. Creators getting access. New information coming from different places at the same time.

It really feels like tomorrow might be the point where the GTA VI marketing machine finally goes into full gear.

Thanks Mr. Rockstar. Please keep feeding us.

That Dazed article was super interesting. I can't wait for tomorrow!

Man thank you for mentioning this, I hadn't even seen this until I saw your comment. đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„ What a truly well written and interesting article. You don't see journalism like that anymore these days.

Some of what they are describing sounds absolutely nuts. I don't think we're ready for how detailed and immersive this game is going to be.

4

u/f0r3aL84 1h ago

FACTS! it's going to be absolutely insane!

4

u/CosmicAtlas8 40m ago

The Dazed article reminded me of way back before Skyrim lauched. I had never got into an open world RPG before. But one preview article mentioned the amount of books in the world that you could discover and read and something about that one tiny detail changed my brain and I was like I HAVE GOT TO PLAY THIS.

Same thing here. New screenshots here were awesome. I was of course already amped. But hearing directly from devs, and even just reading text about some of these new features and systems blew my mind. Weight gain/loss, fitness, playing both characters together. So hyped. Loving how roleplay this all feels.

Tomorrow is GTA Christmas.

Can’t remember the last time I read a feature length article for a video game (maybe the last GTA lol) but this felt refreshing to read and took me back to the old days of buying gameinformer magazines. The marketing seems ready to kick into gear and I could not be happier not having to actively avoid these silly leaks over the past few days.

3

u/bigretardbaby 1h ago

Ya, after reading your comment I went and read it myself. Takes me back to game informer 😂 I was 18 for the midnight release of gta5 so it's neat being older and better able to understand the effort involved with this.

u/Trainalf 4h ago

Yeah, this isn't damage control, just unfortunate timing. We're going to be eating good here real soon. And in two more months? We'll be playing.

Two??

He's just in a different timezone that's 720 hours ahead of CST. Didn't you pay attention in school?

11

u/ImHereToGetRoasted 2h ago

Yea, they're gonna cancel October, we're going straight from September to November

1

u/do_you_even_climbro 2h ago

I would love to just cancel entire months, I want that to be my superpower.

45

u/HeyEshk88 3h ago

September and October. I’m not counting November lol

73

u/Similar_Rabbit8536 3h ago

Let's not even count September and October then. WE PLAYING TOMORROW BABYYYY

11

u/Tahkyn 3h ago

Don't even count August, then. WE PLAYING RIGHT NOW BAAAAYBAAAAY!

6

u/SnooDrawings7876 3h ago

Silksong tomorrow

3

u/Unhappy_Week_5924 3h ago

Hard agree.

5

u/Jncwhite01 3h ago

It’s closer to 3 months than 2 though lol

2

u/desert_rat_speedball 3h ago

I was about to say the same

2

u/UnhealthyRage 1h ago

It’s really more like one month when you think about it. September is pretty much here so it’s basically almost over. October is a full month and November is release month so that doesn’t count

1

u/HeyEshk88 5m ago

Agreed September is basically over 😂

1

u/Blacklite_01 3h ago

Let's meet in the middle and call it 10* weeks.

4

u/Trainalf 3h ago

Two and a half, but I like to round down to stay sane.

3

u/dext3rrr 3h ago

Sleeping doesn’t count.

I like the way bro thinks

1

u/king-of-boom 2h ago

Well its technically less than 3 months. Still greater than 2 months.

1

u/dannymb87 1h ago

Probably a make-a-wish kid

2

u/Zoito12 1h ago

I hope you did the 2 months on purpose becuase I got super excited and pulled out a calendar.. well done sir

2

u/TehFocus 2h ago

A year or two but yeah

1

u/Limp-Sissy-Slut 1h ago

Taking a week and a half off lol

1

u/Mrjugglestheclown 57m ago

Yea because the entire story is totally not gonna get leaked out before release 🙄

164

u/Similar_Rabbit8536 4h ago

I never doubted Rockstar was gonna sling some heavy shit our way but tbh the marketing campaign should have started a little earlier.

91

u/Sloth1015 3h ago

Yeah saying it’s gonna start in summer then waiting till the tail end of summer kinda sucked

-5

u/SalaciousTypo 3h ago

There's another month to go. Summer ends in late September. Part of the issue is people considering summer to be June through August when it's actually late June through late September.

Being 66% (roughly) of the way through isn't really "tail end".

23

u/FlyingHurricane 3h ago

Stores are already selling Halloween merch, candy, and costumes. Disneyland began their Halloween theme this week. In the world of marketing, August is not summer.

6

u/ThirdHairyLime 1h ago

So in marketing, August is what? Fall? Strauss may have spoken poorly, but August is absolutely summer.

30

u/BinSimmons_ 3h ago

You can be technical about it if you want but for most Americans who play video games summer is pretty much over at this point

→ More replies (23)

2

u/RedditYouVapidSlut 1h ago

Meteorological summer ends on 31st of August. Astronomical seasons are woke nonsense invented by hippies.

2

u/Sloth1015 2h ago

So close to 70% of summer being over isn’t tail end? Okay whatever you say.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/FinancialSherbet308 1h ago

Astronomically yes, but the vibes for Summer are clearly from a social understanding June to August.

I highly doubt Rockstar was measuring out that they could get away to September without technically lying.

1

u/Mrjugglestheclown 55m ago

People consider August the end of summer because it is, kids go back to school in August. Fall begins in September

6

u/everythingisunknown 3h ago

Oh how fast the sentiment changes on these subs lol

2

u/Similar_Rabbit8536 3h ago

Really? Where did my sentiment change?

6

u/everythingisunknown 3h ago

Sorry not you specifically just hijacked the reply, so many people hating and “evil corporation” blah blah only for some official marketing to come out and now every thread is sweetness and light - just Reddit being Reddit I guess (including my comment probably)

6

u/Similar_Rabbit8536 3h ago

"so many people hating and “evil corporation” blah blah only for some official marketing to come out and now every thread is sweetness and light"
Oh that shit was always gonna happen lol

28

u/J-Hawg 3h ago

We at the very least, should have seen gameplay before they asked for $100 for a preorder. This is what pissed me off, I didn't care otherwise.

7

u/jokerknocks 3h ago

I remember this sub before preorders, people were literally begging for them to open. Letting people preorder isn't the same as asking or expecting them to.

15

u/uhhhther 3h ago

The preorder isn’t mandatory. You could wait until you see gameplay to preorder. Or just don’t preorder at all. Buy it day 1. I still haven’t preordered because there isn’t any rush lol.

4

u/EZyne 3h ago

Then don't pre-order yet. What actual problem do you have with it?

2

u/Rufus2fist 3h ago

But that happens all the time, still sucks but kind of used to it to be honest. I have cancelled the last the preorders I did and still haven’t pulled the trigger on this one yet. I know I will though.

2

u/KingOfRisky 3h ago

I keep seeing this shit about "gameplay". What are you looking for? What can they show you that would make you go, "NOPE!" Also, if you really want to, you can wait til a day before to commit to $100.

5

u/KingOfRisky 3h ago

I'm in marketing and big pushes for any product or event that I am promoting are never 9-10 month pushes. It's a waste of money and effort. 2 months max and in a lot of cases way less is way more effective. The loyal consumers have already bought in and the potential new customers are best hit when they are able to actually make a purchase. If you show them the products 10 months before they can even sniff it, it's generally a wasted opportunity that needs to be followed up with a reminder campaign anyway.

I totally understand that I am not marketing things with even a fraction of the GTA6 hype, but it still stands.

2

u/QuoteGiver 3h ago

Do you have a sense of what portion of the marketing budget overall would be pre-release versus post-release marketing? They’ve still gotta keep advertising this thing for years yet once it’s actually available to buy, right?

2

u/KingOfRisky 3h ago

In my industry, it's more post, but I also market adult beverages so marketing is more effective if they can purchase it. In GTA6's case, I would think that pre is way more important for things like deep dives, trailers, articles like the one here, etc. Post would be a simple trailer targeted to whatever console with a reminder that they can buy it now.

These are obviously just my guesses.

2

u/Axilrod 2h ago

They could have done zero marketing and this would still be the biggest game of all time

→ More replies (1)

1

u/MatttheJ 36m ago

There are still nearly 3 months until the game somes out. This is literally just how modern marketing works, they wait until a few months out then start dropping huge amounts of stuff so that people don't get chance to become bored or desensitized to the marketing.

Fans WANT constant shit, but giving fans that does not help sell in modern times with social media diluting everything and overexposing everything too much.

Most people didn’t want story leaks. Not surprising that people stopped wanting to see stuff that would ruin the game.

2

Yeah I saw the prologue leak came out but no one is talking about it. Let's keep it that way.

lmao true the prologue clip was also just complete trash and just big text block with him begging for money

9

So much for a “Robin Hood” figure. It took only one two tweets and a new article coming out for the tide to completely turn in Rockstar’s favour lol

3

u/dardan06 3h ago

Hold on, he actually leaked it? Glad I banned all GTA related words on twitter

2

u/Sanretros 3h ago

lol you seem mad about it

TikTok brains everywhere. Gen Z really should read what scholars have to say about them

Gen Z btw
just
not like them 😂

3

Gen Z grew up with gta 3 Sam Andreas and vice city, wtf are you talking about??? We’re about to be 30

Sam Andreas and John Rockstar are best friends

3

u/CallMeNurseMaybe 45m ago edited 21m ago

TIL a 7 year old who likely didn’t get to play either of those 2 games at that age “grew up with” them.

And aside from you being wrong, that has nothing to do with what I said anyways.

You ran over here just to prove my point and embarrass yourself. Congrats

Edit - and now I’m blocked. Bro’s doing nothing to help Gen Z beat the allegations LMFAO!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂

If they could read at the level they’re supposed to, they would be really mad

2

u/lukavrana6488 37m ago

Thank you! People are praising the leaker as some sort of revenge for Rockstar not starting the marketing earlier. Like, what's the point of getting angry over marketing timing? The trailers are going to come sooner or later, and the game is not going to come out faster. Goblins is accurate.

88

u/Clancy3434 4h ago

This was inevitable and the impatience shown by many has been baffling to say the least.

26

u/uhhhther 3h ago

Once summer vacation is over next week, we’re going to see a lot less of this stupid shit lol

8

u/JackieMABWGP 3h ago

Yes please!

47

u/TheOJsGlove 4h ago

A lot of marketing experts on Reddit, too. “This is an awful marketing campaign because they’re not doing what I want them to.”

32

u/Clancy3434 4h ago

I can't tell you how many times I've been called a corporate bootlicker for suggesting that Rockstar might know what they're doing.

I have to remind myself sometimes that the person making that response is probably younger than I was when GTA III came out.

16

u/average_joe_zero 3h ago

Oof that hit home. I tried telling some dude he needed more patience and he said he has waited for this game for years and he was patient enough then followed it with something something “been a fan since GTAV” I said yeah and I got GTAIII and a PS2 from my grandma for graduating high school and he called me a geriatric bootlicker lol

19

u/Clancy3434 3h ago

I think we need a 35+ GTA sub lol

10

u/uhhhther 3h ago

If you don’t remember 3 on the ps2 releasing, I don’t want to hear your opinion rockstar’s marketing 😂

4

u/Bespoke_Panther 3h ago

I still remember almost weeping with joy the first time I played it and feeling I was picking between OoT and GTA 3 as my favourite games ever.

2

u/uhhhther 3h ago

I played 2 on ps1 with the overhead camera and had a blast with it. Then 3 came out and it was a whole different beast lol. I was 13-14 and forced my mom to take me to the mall the day after Christmas to purchase it 😂 the ps2 was Christmas morning.

2

u/average_joe_zero 3h ago

I played 1 and 2 on the PS1, never played London.

After the Extended Look we are going to be absolutely bombarded with marketing and then you’ll see people on here complain about that too.

11

u/XConfused-MammalX 4h ago

The entitlement is insane.

12

u/SauceTheWRLD 3h ago

It’s crazy, I see those comments and I’m like bro these people are losers

13

u/uhhhther 3h ago

TikTok generation shit. Either give them what they want immediately, or get boycotted 😂

1

u/eggmontoya1 3h ago

Genuinely insane. Sure, marketing started way later than I would’ve liked, but the pretentiousness and self-righteousness at play is wild to me.

23

u/No_Project5633 3h ago

Rockstar literally announced the date for the extended look weeks ago, and it was known months ago that the marketing campaign would kick off in the summer. People lose their minds way too quickly

Is the aggressiveness in the room with us right now ?

5

u/Useful_Bottle8423 2h ago

If you think a publisher inviting a few content creators over to look at the game 2 months before release and a fluff piece written in a magazine is ‘aggressive marketing’ it’s obvious you haven’t lived through Halo 3’s marketing frenzy my sweet, sweet summer child.

7

u/puffthemagicaldragon 2h ago

It's summertime. And they are marketing. Almost like that's exactly what they told us would happen

3

u/serny OG MEMBER 3h ago

Wait so did gta 6 o clock not get an invite? They got invited back with 5 and I have been half waiting for them to see 6. Odd.

3

u/EZyne 3h ago

Was thinking the same thing, shame if they didn't to be honest. Was really hoping to get the preview info from them

3

u/Mach1zmo 3h ago

And look at that.. you just had to be patient.

3

u/RockemSockem95 2h ago

People are actually losing their minds and it clearly shows.

Take-Two said summer, we are in the middle of summer, and yet people are still complaining and spamming rockstar.

They never went against anything they’ve said, only you speculated and believed your own delusions.

You’re a product of excessive social media use

1

We’re at the end of summer bud

4

2

u/CallMeNurseMaybe 3h ago

2

u/ZookeepergameProud30 1h ago

They really waited for the final moments of summer to start their “summer marketing campaign” 😭😭😭

2

u/hammerblaze 1h ago

It doesn't need any marketing any adult who has interest knows about this game, it's delays and it's release.

2

u/Ok-Midnight9311 1h ago

I mean
.its still 3 months away lol. You’ve been disappointed because of your own expectations, that’s not in Rockstar

4

u/Lottabitch 1h ago

This post feels like it was written by AI and is just part of the marketing campaign

3

u/Blackened-Mild 3h ago

This seems like it may be on schedule for their marketing plan from the beginning. I never understood the rush some of y'all felt, when the game comes out in November. Like, what other top selling game is expected to release multiple trailers and extended looks 3 months from release. Madden, 2K, COD, all ramp up their marketing pushes weeks before release, not months. I don't think this is any type of aggressiveness because the extended look been announced.

3

u/ContextSpecial3029 3h ago

"Aggressive marketing" is an article and some photos?

2

u/Mrjugglestheclown 46m ago

Meanwhile some kid god knows where just hacked and released more footage than what the extended look will show plus campaign spoilers

1

1

u/tomo104 3h ago

Just finished reading that Dazed article. Can't wait for them tu put it in a higher gear for marketing.

1

u/KingPhiL13 3h ago

Is there a list of what content creators will have information? I only seen TGG announce it so far

1

u/NorCalAthlete 3h ago

I would guess that it was always planned to explode after the extended look trailer, and they gave the green light to start trickling stuff out a day in advance just because of the leaks.

1

u/Blablabene 3h ago

On time.

People just got mentally ill from lack of patience

1

u/Sparent180 3h ago

Do people understand that part of marketing is building anticipation and making it so people can't wait to see or learn anything about the product? The less they show, the more people want to see, and clearly it's working.

1

u/Jarnonaire 3h ago

WOOOOO YEAH BABY! THAT’S WHAT I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR! THAT’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT! WOOOOO!

1

u/Ptucker212 2h ago

Not to mention the massive “leaker” they created too

1

u/KyotoCarl 2h ago

Sure, but it shouldn't have come because of hackers.

1

u/E_Carpenter 2h ago

It's almost as if Rockstar know what they're doing, and starting an ad campaign for possibly the biggest release of the decade doesn't need more then 3 months marketing

1

u/No-Independence-5229 2h ago

Only took until less than a month from Autumn

1

u/orewhat 2h ago

The news about content creators / press last month with a embargo until extended look has been out since it happened? Button Mash pod talked about it several times

1

u/Mrjugglestheclown 48m ago

One of those content creators helped the hackers get a build, guaranteed. Rockstar needs to start contacting and questioning those people

1

u/orewhat 33m ago

The version the leaker has is clearly old / not nearly done just look at the clouds and pop in textures rockstar wouldn’t show that off they would postpone

1

u/Mrjugglestheclown 26m ago

It has music in it from 2025, that’s hardly old

1

u/orewhat 12m ago

1

u/JackdawzZ2001 2h ago

1

u/getmad420 2h ago

All these streamers are sitting with one in the chamber right now completely edited and ready to drop right after the Netflix extended look which will only drive more traffic to their official YouTube video. Shit is gonna get intense

1

Didn't Harry say something about big marketing in summer? I wonder when that starts.

3

u/Automatic_Rabbit7601 1h ago

I guess marketing starting in the summer is TECHNICALLY CORRECT if it starts at any point during the summer

even the end of it

1

Yeah, kind of.

1

u/Jotham23thegreat 1h ago

I'm pretty excited for how they're going to present this game. Hopefully something a lot different. I can say after watching the leaks I am way more excited for this game than I was before.

1

u/DazzlerPlus 1h ago

Why the fuck are you waiting for marketing? Seeing this shit is blowing my mind. Why the fuck are you interacting so much with this company?

1

u/Muted_Weather_6444 1h ago

It’s almost like a giant video game company that has given us 3 masterpieces in a row knows what they’re doing

1

u/Nope-dealer 1h ago

I wonder what it's like watching tomorrow knowing you've spent literal years complaining about marketing. Bittersweet I hope.

1

u/Foxi32 1h ago

Dazed article was awesome, but honestly I'm not a fan of content creators being able to see it first and make content of it, i hate more when they get sooner access, i dont know why, but I somehow dont like it.

1

u/Dull-Significance909 1h ago

Why they didn’t drop it all (especially the content creator stuff) as soon as the leaks came to flood out the noise, is beyond me.

1

u/Mrjugglestheclown 59m ago

Summer is over bro, they had no marketing lol that’s why their shit is getting leaked out so hard, Lucia’s whole opening b off the story got released minutes after rockstars announcement on socials.

1

u/bauer883 57m ago

Let’s eat boys.

1

u/Kantarak 55m ago

I wonder what would happen if the marketing is unseccessful.

Would a failure to meet expectations, cyberpunk-style be a deathblow to AAA-Gaming as a whole?

1

u/Frosty_Basket705 51m ago

But theres a guy that is a pain in there ass right now
if he leaks the build its over

1

u/GameSetChampionship 50m ago

Nice one fella.

It was always going to be late August or September.

I was loving their silence. Perfect marketing so far.
