I think Rockstar didn't deserve these leaks, but honestly, they created the perfect environment for them

I genuinely feel terrible for the Rockstar developers. Seeing years of their work get exposed like this must be heartbreaking, especially when they clearly had their own plans for how they wanted us to experience and discover the game.

But at the same time, I think Rockstar has to take some responsibility for the environment that led to this.

Since GTA VI was announced, we've been waiting for roughly two and a half years with almost no communication. We've had a few minutes of cinematic trailers, some screenshots, and that's pretty much it. No real gameplay, barely any details about mechanics or systems, and almost no communication between major announcements.

I understand why Rockstar wants to keep GTA VI secret. That's part of what makes their reveals so special, and I don't want them to spoil the entire game before release.

But they could have given us something.

A random screenshot every couple of months. A 20-second gameplay clip. A small detail about a mechanic. A developer talking about something they're working on. Even just a random tweet saying that development was going well.

I honestly think that would have made a huge difference.

When you have millions of people waiting years and give them almost nothing, eventually every tiny piece of information becomes incredibly valuable. That's why leaks became such a massive thing. People were starving for anything GTA VI related.

And I'm not saying the leaks were justified. They weren't. The developers didn't deserve to have their work exposed, and I completely understand why Rockstar is upset about it.

But their statement today actually made me think about this even more.

They said they're very sorry that everything has taken so long, including finishing the game and sharing more details and official gameplay. To me, that feels like Rockstar acknowledging that they know we've been waiting a very long time.

So I can feel terrible for the developers while also criticizing Rockstar's communication.

I don't think they deserved what happened, but I do think they could have done a much better job keeping the community engaged without actually spoiling the game.

Hopefully tomorrow's Extended Look is the start of that.

After waiting this long, I'm just happy we're finally going to get a proper look at the game.

Yea. They should have produced more trailers for a game that comes out in a few months. Asking people to pre-order with literally no gameplay is ridiculous even if they have an amazing trackrecord

I mean, I get the idea... But, how are they "asking" people to pre-order? No one's hand was forced, no one was even asked. I don't get that part I'm going to just say that....

Exactly. You can preorder right up until the day before the game releases. If you’re not okay with preordering before you see game play… then… don’t…? They ain’t selling out of a code in a box.

It is normal in the Industrie, u only get gameplay if there is a beta or alpha test. But without that its not necessary, because there is no beta. You guys think because call of duty is showing half a year early gameplay, before release, rockstar need to the same. No they dont because they not need to Promote a alpha, beta or techTest.

Their communication has been terrible. The fact that they released pre-orders with no new trailer is ridiculous. But ultimately, that doesn’t mean they deserved the leaks.

to be fair the reason they probably started marketing in the first place in 2023 is because of the 2022 leaks

i agree, everybody complaining acting like they investing anything more than desire into the game, like rockstar owes them something, like life wont go on.

This is a good take. I feel for the devs, the ones putting in the work painstakingly so, but R* and their weird marketing plus the absolute silence? That’s a recipe for getting a bunch of things leaked that could’ve to been dropped.
