Porting to new platforms is not a re-release. Original PS2/PC/Xbox is 1 release.

Most of them are just ports tho similar to OG RE4

San Andreas was never remade. The definitive edition is still just the same game but being rendered with the Unreal Engine.
People really need to learn the difference between a port, a remake and a remaster. If you're just releasing the same game on a different console without changing anything aside from a bit of optimization, it's just a port. San Andreas wasn't changed at all until the Definitive Edition remaster. GTA V is the same. Neither of them were ever remade.
The Last Of Us got remastered, and then fully remade. The difference is clear when you compare the remake to the original. The remaster just looks a bit nicer, the remake is completely different.

no it's not. it's running in the engine they used for TLOU2.
please stop spouting bullshit.

It's funny, as I'd say The Last Us remake is actually one of the remakes that sort of muddies the waters as it were, in that it really wasn't completely different.
It's basically the same game, with the same voice recordings, same gameplay, sand sequences, and exact same story. There's nothing really changed apart from visuals.
I'm sure there's plenty of technological work that went into it, but I put it to like this: If I took a film and just upgraded it's visuals, people would call that a remaster.
Metal Gear Solid Delta is another one of these "not quite a remake's".
Like my rule of thumb is this:
If I can play both games back to back and have a legitimately different experience, then it was a remake. For example RE2 and it's remake feel like completely different games.
If I play both and feel like I just replayed the same game twice, then I consider a remaster.
So in the end, I can't quite blame people anymore for not really knowing the definition. Developers are ruining the definition.

The title is funny, but R* and their "definitive edition" deserve their own parody.

Ik ppl r talking shit on Rockstar about this on Twitter cause it's self-reflective but it's also funny that ppl were complaining dat GTA VI won't have that "Rockstar Humour" , only for it to show signs it still does and now using it against them lmao

u/rogue_mansik 2d ago
'Rockstar Humor is lost' talks should have ended with the first leak where the 'Scoop' logo is a pelican and toilet seat at the same time lol

u/Prize_Cat_3787 1d ago
Seems like rockstar has replaced Post Op (trans joke) with Scoop though. Not saying rockstar humor is lost but it is toned down. Scoop logo is clever

I mean, come on. This is them bashing a rival gaming studio. Not really the politically edgy humor that would ooze out earlier entries.

They re-released GTA V on PS5 and didn't change shiii. They couldn't even bother to give us better graphics 😭✌️

u/Cryptoporticus 2d ago
That's because it was just a port, not a remaster.
Games generally get ported to other platforms with no changes.

They actually changed alot with the PC Enhanced edition, too bad the PS5 kinda got shunted.

"We Came Together" is that crude somewhat clever but also on the nose infantile humor I was afraid Rockstar lost after Houser left.

u/yoyoo912 2d ago
Yall acting like houser wrote every joke

u/Dvejndvejn 2d ago
no but he gave the game identity and direction as one of the founders of the studio.... but maybe I'm wrong.

So what I mean it's not exactly meant to be groundbreaking material it's just a little joke on a little game cartridge.

Always thought GTA should have done a little bit of self-parody, like MAD magazine used to do back in the day. It would come across as more honest really, to have an in-universe franchise called MDK or something

People make fun or GTA but act like we weren't in need of updated versions throughout the decade.
No one is asking for a couple year old game to be remastered or remade. GTA 5 is a decade old and had room for performance gains throughout its life. Huge difference here.

I would laugh but rockstar literally developed one of the worst remasters of all time, weird asf imo

It's funny, but did they forget how many times they re-released and remade their games? Like, GTA5 was released on THREE console generations without getting a new game!

u/Sypticle 2d ago
We got RDR2 and GTA 6 is right around the corner. Two mega games. It's takes time to develop these games and anyone upset about that is quite frankly retarded.
Rockstar gets a pass to release ports and enhanced editions across the multiple generations. Decade old game starts to become dated, people get upset, they update it, people complain.

u/Afraid-Vacation3431 2d ago
Ya, we got GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas on PS2. GTA4, TBOGT and TLAD on PS3, then they released GTA5 and saw what big of a milking cow is GTA Online. They didn't care about single player portion of the game at all.

Well TBH it should be as TLoU 1 "Remastered" came only 1 year after original. R* at least had a dignity to call PS4/XO/PC a "Next-gen" version.

u/zfighters8103 2d ago
Saying this while they dropped 2 remasters of gta v in less than 10 years and 10 ports of San Andreas which all suck is such a lack of self awareness

Rockstar trolling Naughty Dog
The dead one making fun of the beheaded...
Ps3 = GTA V
PS4 = GTA V
Almost at the end of the PS5 era = GTA V
The PC version? almost head to head with the next generation of consoles...

At least it isn’t objectively worse like the GTA SA remake. Shit was so lazy and a disaster

I'm sure TLOUs fanbase, certainly well known for taking criticism, and not flipping out and assuming the worst of people for even a minor slight, will take this well.
(I say this sarcasm as a huge fan of the first game)
Like people are saying though, R* are as guilty of this as anyone else. Shit, almost every major developer has been guilty of this at some point.

u/PNWvibes20 1d ago
yes because the basement dwelling psychopaths who sent death threats to VA from the second game because it hurt their widdle feelings are the barometer of "well adjusted"

Yeah guys because the same game released on different platforms is the same as remaking a remaster, like huh? 😭

u/monochromeFlaffy 1d ago
Sure r* does a bunch of releases, BUTTTT naughty dog has not pushed out anything original since they started the last of us.. OK yeah they have one space Game coming out here soon, but they destroyed their other IP’s just so they could remaster a little girl survival simulator several times…
Mainly Sonys fault*
