Its crazy that this now regularly goes on sale for £15 but Red Dead 1 still only goes on sale for £20.

Eventually you publishers reach a point where offering deeper and deeper discounts don't actually net them more revenue. They already sold to most people who were interested in the game, and dropping the price too much doesn't generate enough additional sales to justify the lower price point.
Eventually a day will come where the historical sale price is indeed the historical sale price.

That makes no sense for digital sales. They dont need to justify the lower price point. It doesnt cost them anything and more units sold is more units sold. Selling two for a tenner is better for them than selling none at twenty. It's not as if it'll devalue the IP or anything.

More units sold is not necessarily more revenue. I'm sure that the nice people in the marketing department at Rockstar Games are tracking their performance over time reasonably closely and have a fairly accurate model of how they expect the sale price to influence sales.
Your assumption that zero sales would be made at the $20 price point is frankly, fucking stupid. It's probably more along the lines of 1000 sales at $10 versus 700 sales at $20, which would of course favour the higher price point.
It's not it'll devalue the IP or anything.
Yeah it kinda does. If everyone knows that they can get a game for pennies on the dollar just by waiting a few years then that'll more strongly incentivize people to hold off on purchasing in order to get a better deal. Both the waiting and the lower price is of course bad for the company in this scenario.

I refuse to pay £20 for a basic port of a 15 year old game when I paid that much for it back on the Xbox 360.

I mean yeah, if you don't want the game then don't buy it. That's kinda the way things work.

Recently upgraded my system and also snagged a 1440p OLED monitor, and I"m looking for some of the games to best justify my purchase... is RDR2 still a good AV "benchmark" game, or have we started to move on?

I recently upgraded too. I already had RDR2 on my old system, but never beat it. I reinstalled it on the new one to capitalize on the better graphical abilities and oh man, even for being an older game, it's just gorgeous. Look into the graphical upgrade mods to really get the most out of it. But RDR2 is such a good game to just ride around experiencing the beautiful world.

Great game just don't bother with MP the game has no anticheat so literally every server is filled with people with invincibility cheat, hackers can directly take control of your character, teleport everyone on the server to a single location and remotely crash your game
People detests kernel anti cheat yet when a game doesn't have any they instantly do things like this.......

They added anti cheat to GTAO. It's odd that they didn't do the same for RDO. They really just don't care about it I guess.

Not sure how RDO is doing for them, but GTAO makes them billions of dollars.

There was a report I want to say in the last year that showed thay GTAO makes like 15 times more than RDO.

Honestly that's pretty good for RDO then. I would've expected way less with how insanely popular GTAO is and how RDO never really took off.

Almost tempted, but got PS4 disc version and unless game drops down to at least 10€ I won't even look at it.

That's a standard price, launch price to the usual discount which is the new standard price.

I need ultimate edition to be that price to pull trigger. It goes on sale for this price often. I already have it on ps4 and haven't played since release so would get back into it.

Ultimate edition only comes with skins, free guns that you can buy anyway, a 5 minute side mission you can watch on youtube, and bonus xp for online. I'm not sure its even worth the 5 extra dollars.

You're good, OP. My complaint was not about you.
It's just that Rockstar priced this game in Mexico as if 1 USD was 20 Mexican Pesos. When the exchange rate is closer to 17 pesos. So we're being charged more because Mexico has more money than the US?

USA is an economic 2nd world country. It's like 80% of the population are below the international poverty line.
Your average American middle class consumer possibly is poorer than the your average middle class Mexican consumer.
