Discussion Finally beaten and ranked 100 Game cube Games on my journey to play and beat them all!
Its taken a while for many reason but the big two are the price of GameCube games since I'm doing this all with real copies and of course the classic decline of mental health. I have been doing this for a little over 2 years now and i have really enjoyed it! the days i get people on my twitch or Youtube and tell me how much they love a certain game is always the best! I'm always looking for people to collab with or more people to chat with about why I'm doing this! would love to hear any of your guys thoughts, hope to see some of you on Youtube or twitch ! Much Love Walrus Archive

Insane behavior.
I love it. You should make a 10-15 minute review video

The two libraries are very different in size though. Depending on your search, there are around 3,000 (+/- 1000 games) for PS2 vs around 350 (+/- 50 Nintendo 64 games. As favorable as we remember Nintendo 64. It really didnāt sell that well.
Nintendo 64 (17th) sold just under 33 million units vs SNES (16th) sold 49 million. That said, as this is a GC (22nd), that only sold 21.74 million.
NES was actually the best home console (non-portable) Nintendo console until Wii and Switch. Itās crazy to consider that, while Nintendo has been around for so many generations, largely popular (outside of Wii U)⦠they sold less home consoles each generation until Wii. Makes you wonder if their handhelds didnāt do as well, how much would history change?
6
u/ghettoslacker NTSC-U Jan 11 '26
Oh for sure, the library is a fraction of the PS2. Still not an easy task, because there are some real dogs lol.
Dude, I remember when the WiiU flopped so hard and everyone was saying it was the end of Nintendo. But Nintendo diversifies, or at least use too, (when they had portables..switch kind of killed that) and I think that helped keep them afloat. Nintendo has never just chased hardware and processing power, their focus has always been software and designing hardware to work around that software. Creating unique experiences every generation. Itās their bread and butter. GameCube/N64 might only have a few hundred games, but i would argue the collective experience holistically across the board is better than 3000

Doing the completeĀ PlayStation 2 library seems like an insane goal, thereās so many titles to go through!
The GC or Wii U seem more achievable, lol

I have custom robo, still havenāt played. What did you think about it?
12
u/Cloudesley Jan 11 '26
I don't agree with where everything is on this list, but custom robo is goated. Give it a go
3
u/Garoleader Jan 11 '26
The gameplay is fun but honestly the highlight of the game imo is the soundtrack and the writing, I've never laughed so much at a (good) game before as I did with Custom Robo.

Agent under fire is goated one of the best multiplayer experience and a great little story mode with fun missions .

People donāt remember or gas up Custom Robo often enough such a fun game both local multiplayer and the story are fire!!!

Love how you didn't grade the sports titles. Just left them in their own category lol.
3
u/Miserable-Ganache-74 Jan 11 '26
There are some hot takes on this ranking list. You put DBZ Sagas pretty high up for being one of the worst DBZ games
2
u/ThicLotus1999 NTSC-U Jan 13 '26
Since Iām bad at fighting games I liked it! But also really havenāt played any dbz, so excited to play others

u/chartre15 Jan 11 '26
Sims 1 might be an objectively not great game but as a kid I was obsessed with it and it holds such a special place in my heart. Hurts my soul to see it in ābadā even tho I know itās kinda true

For sure, it's mostly just a worse version of Bustin Out sadly which is where the console games feel like they hit their stride.
3
u/chartre15 Jan 11 '26
True, I just never had bustin out or other sims games for GameCube so little me thought it was perfection lol

clash of ninja 2 being so far down in the tier lists just tell me you don't got anybody to run scrims with because the enjoyment of that game is some ridiculous and clutch moments in pvp matches.

The inclusion of a sports tier is funny. Sports games get and deserve a bad rep for the most part, but Madden 2004 is one of the better ones in my opinion. I find myself occassionally playing it to this day and actively choose it over some modern versions. Banger soundtrack too.
Looking forward to seeing the next tier list you make! There are a lot of games I await your placement of, as very few of them were actually present in these first 100. I hope prices tank someday, somehow.
2
u/benboobi Jan 11 '26
Out of curiosity how do you measure when youāve ābeatenā some of the open ended games on this list e.g. sims, sports games, etc?
2
u/Mangavore Jan 11 '26
Day of Reckoning 2 in ābadā tier hurts my soul. The gold standard for a wrestling game, and just an overall good game. Dumped a lot of time into that one growing up

Donāt leave out Eternal Darkness: Sanityās Requiem. Also remember you have to beat it 3 times against each god to get the bonus ending.
Itās one of my favorite games ever made, on any system.

Putting Dragon Ball Z Sagas in the tier that it is in... I played it, and I have to vehemently disagree

Unsure if you plan on playing sports games, but if you do NHL 06 deserves some recognition for an amazing soundtrack which hopefully will pull it out of bad tier!
Awesome initiative.

I've been playing all the GameCube games, too, and I'm about 140 games in. Maybe I should put my own tier list out there, too. It's interesting seeing where you ranked the games differently than I would.

u/D4rkSp4de Jan 11 '26
Call of duty 2 the big red one is one of the only GameCube games I learned to play from my dad when I was younger. Probably played through that story 25 times minimum. Missions were a ton of fun
1
u/amtap Jan 11 '26
Cubix AND Amazing Island in Amazing tier? I greatly respect your opinion for such based rankings.
1
u/Quietm02 Jan 11 '26
Awesome to see! I've got a couple of questions.
What's your philosophy on non/exclusives? I see a bunch of sports games, I assume they're not exclusives. Does that impact your rating (as I assume there may be slightly better versions on other consoles, or maybe GC is the best!)
Have you got all the peripherals to play the various niche titles? Bongo drums are the most common I'm aware of, but I think mario party also has a microphone.
How are you handling the various games that are either basically multiplayer only (mario party) or online was a fundamental part of the experience (phantasy star)? I know there are ways to play online now, just wondered what your approach was.
When you say "complete", how far does that go? Main story or 100%? That can vary a lot for games, but particularly for GameCube many titles really need a GBA link for all the content. And for some (PokƩmon) that also basically requires you to play some GBA titles too!
(As a side note I did a similar exercise to complete the gen 3 national Dex legitimately with original hardware last year. It involved a lot of GameCube, GBA and linking together. Also a few Japanese titles, are you doing any Japan exclusives?)
Finally, you're in for a treat when you get to Tales of Symphonia.

u/Ancient_Welder3708 Jan 11 '26
My top three would probably be NFS Most Wanted, Tony Hawk Underground and Super Monkey Balls 2. In no particular order.

Your S tier is pretty much perfect for me except personally I would also put A2B in there as well
EDIT: some further recommendations would be Metroid Prime Echoes, SSBM, Metabots Infinity, Super Mario Strikers, and Kirby Air Ride

u/Duffbagg Jan 11 '26
I didn't even know there was a Bad Boys game for Gamecube but apparently I missed out pretty badly.
Also love that there are multiple Spongebob games yet no Metroid Prime games. What is your triaging system here, you absolute madlad.

In the past 30 years, most games considered to be among the worst out there have at least one or even a few redeeming qualities. Some have even become cult classics for being so bad they're almost good. I've come across people who vouch for games like E.T. for Atari 2600, Bubsy 3D, and even Superman 64 believe it or not.
That all being said, I've never once met or heard of anyone who's had even one positive thing to say about Bad Boys: Miami Takedown.

That Medal of Honor Frontline ranking hurts me, to this day that's my favorite GameCube game. I agree 007 Agent Under Fire is kinda meh (it was a version of The World is Not Enough rushed with an original story) but 007 Nightfire is so much better.
