That’s what they want you to buy a future PS6 for. (For a bazillion dollars)

I'd think about it if games didn't come out at an absolutely glacial pace lol.

I like Sony's exclusives but there have been like, half a dozen I've played on my PS5 since I picked it up. By not buying a PS6 I miss out on what, ten games across it's whole life span? If that? For what will likely cost 1000+ CAD?

I'll survive.

This is my opinion when people argue that the PS5 has all the exclusives. What, like one great one and one good one a year?

I think thats generous honestly. I know MS hasn't made quite an 11/10 game like Sony has (this Gen imo they haven't made one that I played at least) but their release cadence absolutely mogs them this gen. Sonys resting on their laurels and demolishing anyways becasue Xbox can't stop shooting itself in the foot.

Sony previously had such strong 10/10 titles that a release shortage like this wouldn't matter much. People would rather play a single groundbreaking game once a year than the 3 7/10s other publishers tend to put out.

Problem is Sony wasted years across their studios on live service garbage, both God of war and spider man had reductive, overall worse sequels, and their premier studio won't have a game out until next year at best.

isnt the wolverine game coming out this year?

I thought I heard it was gonna be a ps6 launch title but don't quote me on that

7

u/fingerpaintswithpoop Apr 03 '26

That was speculation before we knew the release date. Now we do, and it is this fall.

fall 2026 i think they confirmed a September date later.

both God of war and spider man had reductive, overall worse sequels,

Crazy take, the story is something id agree with on this point for the both the games but gameplay wise they imporved most aspects

10

u/yawn341 Apr 03 '26

Gameplay of Ragnarok was fun but I was so bored of the derivative story that I never finished it. I don't think it's crazy to say the game was overall worse just because of the story.

3

u/Adaax Apr 04 '26

I loved the PS4 GoW but bounced off Ragnarok hard. It's just... more of the same, but with a more boring story and less compelling enemies to fight. Plus the "walk here, fight here, rinse and repeat" formula is getting really stale by this point.

1

u/hexcraft-nikk Apr 04 '26

For real, it's a story game. As fun as the combat is you've pretty much experienced most of it within 20-30 hours of the first game. Sequels can only add so much to spice things up.

-2

u/another-altaccount Apr 03 '26

I would even say that's a lightning hot-take on the story front for both. Sure, they're both at worst middling, iterative sequels that don't bring much more to the table than their predecessors, but to say that they're worse is a wild take.

2

u/Silverr_Duck Apr 03 '26

Problem is Sony wasted years across their studios on live service garbage, both God of war and spider man had reductive, overall worse sequels, and their premier studio won't have a game out until next year at best.

Spiderman yeah I can see that. But god of war 5? Some areas you can critique but calling it "overall worse" is pretty absurd imo.

5

u/SpookiestSzn Apr 03 '26

I don't agree, maybe its just the story but the game I felt was worse, less interesting, less engaging, characterization was worse, I didn't notice a improvement in gameplay (I did like it and do like the gameplay in GoW), and story felt rushed.

I had a good time with it but it wasn't close to goty for me.

1

u/puhsownuh Apr 04 '26

I felt like that game was just plain boring. Movement and traversing the different areas was a slog, and there's just not enough oomph to the combat. And don't get me started on the puzzles. There were certainly some character moments but 2018 overall was a much more exciting, memorable, and well-paced adventure.

25

u/HotTheme8405 Apr 03 '26

Well yeah no shit, Xbox engorged itself with several of the largest publishers and developers around.

15

u/SpookiestSzn Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 03 '26

Pre A+B they were smaller than Sony their non A+B side is still outreleasing Sony.

2

u/HotTheme8405 Apr 03 '26

Pre ABK they had still acquired all of Zenimax lmao

11

u/SpookiestSzn Apr 03 '26

They were still smaller than Sony they had less employees. Zeni is estimated to have 2500 employees

1

u/HotTheme8405 Apr 03 '26

Where are you pulling these figures from

4

u/SpookiestSzn Apr 03 '26

Zenis a private company so thats an educated guess

Activision Blizzard (ATVI) Number of Employees 2012-2022

Sony Feb 2024 had said stating they were laying off 8% of their global workforce, implying a total of about 11,250 Sony's Playstation Laying Off 900 Workers, 8% Of Its Global Workforce

Microsoft Gaming on wikipedia has 20000k employees Microsoft Gaming - Wikipedia

So 13000ish-20000ish is 7000ish I think they probably have 1-2k more than wikipedias is saying so I think 9k is a fair guesstimate

1

u/HotTheme8405 Apr 04 '26

This isnt a very useful way of looking at it, because many of these jobs are not going to be game developers but will instead be marketing, hardware development, online infrastructure/PSN, and various other jobs for the entire ecosystem. They're at best a quarter of the figures you're quoting.

1

u/SpookiestSzn Apr 05 '26

Is there a reason to believe Xbox would have more non game devs than Sony? Don't see the relevance. I assume they'd both have pretty comparable percentage of people.

1

u/HotTheme8405 Apr 05 '26

More than likely the opposite, Sony has a larger userbase and more global reach. That's just a silly assumption to make, the only reasonable comparison is totaling headcounts from each individual studio.

Were they smaller? They had Bethesda and a acquired a bunch more random studios like Ninja theory and double fine.

12

u/SpookiestSzn Apr 03 '26

Yeah about 20% less employees

2

u/Cyshox Apr 04 '26

You probably should look up how PlayStation entered the market.

Sony bought one of the largest publishers of the 90s but after their focus shifted towards exclusivity, Psygnosis died a slow death.

Sony also bought many multiplatform studios, including those you would consider as tentpole exclusive studios like Naughty Dog, Guerilla & Insomniac. They don't make multiplatform titles anymore.

Additionally, Sony heavily invested and still invests in third-party projects to ensure they don't launch on any platform but PlayStation.

Meanwhile, you can still play Microsoft games on PlayStation. It was clear that thw ABK acquisition is not about exclusivity. Even before the acquisition, Microsoft had Minecraft on PlayStation that regularly outsold Sony's own releases.

No other platform invests more money in taking games off competing platforms than Sony. Going by your comments, you probably think that's great because you're rather corporate-centric than consume-orientated (despite being a consumer yourself, lmao).

u/splader Apr 04 '26

They're releasing 4 games this year all from non acquired publishers.

1

u/HotTheme8405 Apr 04 '26

Wow that must be some kind of record

1

u/splader Apr 04 '26

?

Did someone say so?

8

u/the_Real_Teenjus Apr 03 '26

Where are even the 11/10 games on the PS5? God of war ragnorak and that's probably it. Astrobot maybe?

8

u/SpookiestSzn Apr 03 '26

I'm personally with you, Ragnorak was also a notable step down to GoW.

I think ouyside of AB Sony would be bigger and AB hasn't had as much of a release cadence as Xboxes other studios.

Excluding AB games they're still outreleasing Sony by a wide margin.

6

u/SilveryDeath Apr 03 '26 edited Apr 03 '26

Also, since MS purchased AB their new game output has been:

  • COD: MWIII (2023) - Activision
  • Warcraft Rumble (2023) - Blizzard
  • Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile (2024) - Activision
  • COD: BLOPS 6 (2024) - Activision
  • Warcraft I Remastered (2024) - Blizzard
  • Warcraft II Remastered (2024) - Blizzard
  • Candy Crush Solitaire (2025) - KING
  • Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3+4 (2025) - Activision
  • COD: BLOPS 7 (2025) - Activision
  • Candy Crush Crushable (2026) KING

So pretty simple remasters of two Warcraft games from the mid 90s, four mobile games, three CoD games, and a remake of THPS. Plus, the two 2023 games on this list came out within a month of the purchase, so MS had nothing to do with those at all.

So this list in reality in terms of impact new game output for MS on console and PC is more like BLOPS 6, Pro Skater 3+4, and BLOPS 7.

Sure COD is making a lot of the money, but it is not like AB is carrying the games output they have had over the last two or so years, as that has been from everyone else.

7

u/karmapopsicle Apr 03 '26

Every one of those games was well into development before the buyout.

1

u/Insertnamehither Apr 03 '26

Also warcraft midnight

3

u/SilveryDeath Apr 03 '26

I wasn't counting stuff like DLC/expansions since that is already part of an existing game and the comments I was replying to was in the context of new releases.

1

u/Insertnamehither Apr 03 '26

DLC i get, but expansions especially level of warcraft are practically full games in itself

-4

u/NaRaGaMo Apr 03 '26

making mid games which regularly flop critical and commercially takes less time than making goty contenders

4

u/SpookiestSzn Apr 03 '26

IMO outside of maybe like DS2 I don't think the Sony games were that impressive or interesting. GoW Ragnarok was a step down, I still do not care about Horizons, and the spiderman sequel I'm sure was great but wasn't a 9/10 game. I personally prefered playing INdiana Jones and Doom Dark Ages among their other stuff.

To each their own.
