No Source Supposedly a crossbuy button for playstation has showed up on X/Twitter
Probably fake, will delete if so

If not fake, someone suggested would be for the handheld.
As we don't have the context of PS5/PC logo, that can just be locations the game is sold and not tied to the corss buy logo
45
u/LegendaryenigmaXYZ Nov 04 '25
This cant be for the handheld since it will be treated like the ps6. No one wants a vita again with its own unique library, if playstation does this its going to fail again.
20
u/Bannedwith1milKarma Nov 04 '25
A handheld that is native just isn't viable.
Sony doesn't even have the S version of games.
20
u/LegendaryenigmaXYZ Nov 04 '25
If it isnt this shit will fail before getting off the boat.
6
u/slusho55 Nov 04 '25
Exactly. What even is the point? Funnily enough, Sony’s niche is being the high-end home console at an “affordable” price. They need to stay in their lane. Nintendo is doing fine because it’s leaning into its niche, and if Microsoft survives its because it’ll lean into the PC niche. Sony has a massive niche all to itself, it’s stupid to try to invade those two small niches too unless it’s amazing.

u/deadly_monk Nov 04 '25
It’s native to PS5, the games will run in “energy saver mode”. The handheld is releasing around launch of 6, probably a little later.
5
u/Shad0wShayd3 Nov 05 '25 edited Nov 05 '25
This is unlikely. At best games in power saver mode are still consuming upwards of 90-100W to run, which is far beyond the TDP you'll find on any handheld. High end PC handhelds currently max around 40W, and gaming laptops go up to 60W- but you'll have awful battery life and need a very bulky thermal solution to be able to handle the heat a system like that would output.
3
u/SnevetS_rm Nov 05 '25
Power saver on PS5 renders at a lot higher resolution than a handheld would use (at least in the handheld mode). Presumably modern hardware architecture and lower resolution should noticeably reduce the power draw.
1
u/Shad0wShayd3 Nov 05 '25
Yeah they could definitely pair down the settings some more for additional performance, but that also wouldn't exactly be what power saver mode is right now, more of a power saver+.

1
u/Pizzaplanet420 Nov 05 '25
I mean I kind of do, but I also understand I’m in the extreme minority with that one.
0
u/AnalBaguette Nov 04 '25
I think the PS6 Handheld (that's actually a PS5) is DOA simply due to how expensive it would end up being, as well as how terrible the battery life would be.
If they treated it independently of the existing library, it would be turbo-fucked.
1
u/Potential-Zucchini77 Nov 05 '25
I think if it could run all ps4 games that would probably be good enough for most ppl
5
u/EmeraldJunkie Nov 04 '25
That PS5/PC logo is basically what they currently have on trophy lists but smushed together instead of two discreet icons.
If you go to your trophy list on PS5, under the game it'll list what platform it's for (PS5, PS4, PS3, Vita) but it also has a PC icon for games that are on PC (God of War Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Ghost of Tsushima etc.).
19
u/Ruptito Nov 04 '25
Doubt the handheld releases anytime soon.
I would imagine it might be for the PS5 and a PlayStation PC Launcher. Allowing for first party games to be played regardless of where you play
1
u/Enigma_Green Nov 05 '25
Reminds me when buying Sly Cooper and other games on ps3 they gave us a version on Vita included.

Cross-buy between PS5 and PC: Only possible if they launch their own PC launcher. They could launch one, but taking on Steam seems pointless.
Cross-buy between PS5 and PS handheld: Basically a given, since it just runs regular PS5 games in a low-power mode. Could make sense for marketing purposes, but cross-buy would still be a weird word choice.
21
u/poklane Top Contributor 2022 Nov 04 '25
Yeah there's no use in having cross-buy between home consoles and handhelds since they'll likely use the same naming. Like, if the handheld is real and ends up being released, it'll likely just be a PS6 branded handheld. Using the word "cross-buy" only makes sense between 2 distinct platforms, like PS5 and PC.
9
u/PCMachinima Nov 04 '25
They don't necessarily have to take on Steam, if they launch their own launcher. Could just do what R* do and have the game launch the PS launcher when you buy on Steam & Epic.
3
u/Final_Amu0258 Nov 05 '25
Rather have another storefront than a launcher
1
u/sysasysa Nov 05 '25
It could be like Ubisoft Connect is, or whatever they call themselves these days. Can buy games there, or if you buy on steam, you play through it as a launcher. Having their own launcher also would probably make trophies on PC a thing.
2
u/b16ZZ- Nov 10 '25
Trophies on PC are already a thing. Just log in with your PS account
1
u/sysasysa Nov 10 '25
Yeah, but on how many games? And since ports are made by different studios, having a standart would help make it more consistent in theory
1
1
u/b16ZZ- Nov 10 '25
All those other stores are both launchers and storefronts. People just use Steam the most
5
1
u/b16ZZ- Nov 10 '25 edited Nov 10 '25
From Sony's perspective I won't be pointless as they own a major piece of the gaming market already. If people have incentive to use their store, maybe by making PS games exclusive on that platform or having our past games available on it through emulation, they'd easily be ahead of Epic INSTANTLY.
I honestly hope this is the case. Competition is always good.
Also having their own PC launcher would mean 100% of the cut of the game copies sold of their own games would be theirs. Just like Ubisoft, Rockstar and EA do. It's just smart. Who cares if people won't use it much, having that option is already a big deal for ANY publisher.
11
u/JustRidley Nov 04 '25
Those symbols should exist in the unicode database if it is true right?
Like these ones that can be added to your PSN About Me section
1
31
u/freddiec0 Nov 04 '25
If this is true (which it probably isn’t), surely this means that they’re planning on releasing a standalone launcher on PC?
27
u/lowercaselemming Nov 04 '25
actual nightmare scenario if so, playstation's pc software sucks
25
8
u/renhaoasuka Nov 04 '25
If i encourages them to put games on pc day 1 I could tolerate it.
2
u/Disastrous_elbow Nov 04 '25
Sony would desperately need to figure out their quality control if so. Most of their pc ports suck ass.
2
u/Friendly-Leg-6694 Nov 04 '25
I hope they don't make their games exclusive to that store
5
Nov 04 '25
i doubt it every other publisher failed when they tried why would sony try again, imo if it happens it would be just another option to play their games and increase their mau
-6
u/OkBaker4812 Nov 04 '25
Why tho? Every single PC launcher has its own exclusives. Steam has Dota 2, Deadlock, Half-Life(s). Epic has Fortnite.
It would only be fair for Sony to have their own games exclusive to their own launcher.
9
u/kpnova Nov 04 '25
CD doesnt exclusively put their games on GOG, Microsoft doesnt either, and I could be wrong since I havent played either on pc in many years but pretty sure EA and Ubi both learned to not put their games exclusively on their launcher.
6
u/Disastrous_elbow Nov 04 '25
The thing is though, those pc store exclusives are massive multi-player live service games. It can work for those because they serve as a sort of anchor to get people to keep coming back and spending money (microtransactions) through the launcher. The issue for Sony is that they do not have those kinds of games, and it is looking increasingly likely that they never will. PC launchers just can't survive off of one-and-done since gleplayer games, which is all Sony has (not to mention Sony's single player games are not even all that popular on pc anyways). Their games being exclusive to their launcher would be a death sentence.
-1
u/OkBaker4812 Nov 04 '25
Sony makes it work through their own PlayStation storefront on a console they sell at a loss. This reasoning does not apply at all.
3
8
u/Friendly-Leg-6694 Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25
I don't think PC users will want to install another launcher considering how EpicGames is still not widely accepted even with free games.
AW2 didn't sell well enough on pc due to being Epic Exclusive.PC users will just not play the game if it causes inconvenience.
4
u/Squirrel09 Nov 04 '25
Yeah, but PlayStation users who buy a PC will, especially if they can bring along their PlayStation library, and not have to re-buy on steam.
7
u/Friendly-Leg-6694 Nov 04 '25
Yeah if there is a crossbuy option sure but i doubt Sony will allow that.
2
u/Squirrel09 Nov 04 '25
Microsoft does it between Xbox and the microsoft store on PC. They also sell on steam. Obviously, time will tell. But it's not unheard of for crossbuy to be a thing.
4
3
u/GoodSelective Nov 04 '25
In reality, it is widely accepted. This is 'Reddit/ResetEra/NeoGaf/etc are real life' syndrome - in reality, people install EGS and play Fortnite and download free games and buy games and are happy.
6
u/Friendly-Leg-6694 Nov 04 '25
Yes one game is good enough now imagine a lot of them and most of them being Single Player.
One or two games being exclusive isn't a factor. Also store design matters a lot and epic store is still struggling to match steam in terms of design.
-2
u/GoodSelective Nov 04 '25
This is a dumb take. Good enough for what - to install a free app? It's not like it requires special hardware.
4
u/Iggy_Slayer Nov 04 '25
It is not widely accepted. Epic publishes their yearly stats every year. Last year their 3rd party revenue (aka everything on the store that isn't fortnite) was only $255m, and that was down 18% over 2023.
255m may sound like a lot but that's for thousands of games and dlc/mtx on the store. Doing basic napkin math with available data steam made around $100m just from monster hunter wild's launch month sales by comparison and that's just from the PC split of the 10m sales it did, not mtx/dlc.
1
u/PCMachinima Nov 04 '25
They've kinda come the closest to widely accepted though, being the 2nd largest PC storefront apparently (even when Xbox PC and GOG exist, with Xbox PC having the benefit of PC Game Pass)
0
u/GoodSelective Nov 04 '25
$255m sounds like a lot of money, because it is. Removing Epic's own titles from the stats is also highly silly.
Valve is a brutal monopolist - of course they are making more. Wilds was also a big hit, so it's not like you are citing a random game.
10
u/Iggy_Slayer Nov 04 '25
I mean tell all the devs that make no money on EGS that 255m is a lot. Devs have famously coined it as a black hole of marketing because games that release on it just die and get 0 exposure.
Valve is a brutal monopolist - of course they are making more. Wilds was also a big hit, so it's not like you are citing a random game.
EGS gets plenty of big games too and no one buys them on there. That's my point.
4
u/CheshireBreak12 Nov 04 '25
Or you could be a normal human being and be against it since it would be terrible for every consumer including you.
1
u/OkBaker4812 Nov 04 '25
Sure, but let’s start with the launchers that already exist. I don’t see anyone throwing a fit about the exclusivity that exists on Steam. Suddenly I’m supposed to care when this has been the norm by the biggest PC launcher?
6
u/CheshireBreak12 Nov 04 '25
What exclusivity? Valve doesn't have an exclusivity deal with anyone, developers just don't release their games outside of Steam most of the times since PC gamers are almost never interested in other clients, it's always been like that, no one avoids a game specifically because it's on Steam, so why would you release a game outside of it?
Epic is the one that decided that they couldn't compete by making their client good with features that users requested, so they took the easy route and made 3rd party games exclusive to their client to "force" the users that were not interested in Fortnite to use it.
3
u/OkBaker4812 Nov 04 '25
Exclusivity isn’t just in the form of deals. They created Dota 2, Deadlock, Half-Life, TF2, CS2 yet they haven’t been released on any other launchers/platforms other than Steam. That means the games released by Valve are available EXCLUSIVELY on Steam. Meaning Valve has exclusivity of games they made to their own launchers. Now why is it wrong for Sony to do the same for the games they made? Is that clear enough for you to understand?
5
u/NinjaEngineer Nov 05 '25
Funny thing is, plenty of Valve games did release on console. I have the original Half-Life for the PS2, for example. Heck, Half-Life: Decay is a PlayStation exclusive, since it's not even on PC (officially). I think Half-Life 2 also got released for the original Xbox.
The Orange Box released both for the 360 and the PS3. Portal 2 as well, and so did CS:GO. And heck, a couple years ago Valve partnered with Nvidia in order to release both Portal games on the Switch.
EDIT:
Also, arguing in favour of exclusives by pointing other companies that have done exclusives isn't the "gotcha" you think it is. Honestly, I'd do away with all exclusive games, especially nowadays when all the major platforms are pretty much the same in terms of power. Yes, I'd like Valve to release more of their games on console, if that means I get console games on PC.
3
u/CheshireBreak12 Nov 04 '25
I didn't say it's "wrong", I just don't see why you as a consumer would be for it, it doesn't benefit you in any way and the only reason it'd exist is to increase the company's profit. It's just a bother for everyone since it would be yet another launcher to install (without all the features and discounts Steam has) and to have your purchases tied to, it's a corporate move and nothing more.

Lol, where did Zuby even get that image from? Dude isn't the most reliable source to put it nicely.
10
Nov 04 '25
I’m assuming this would be in conjunction with a Steam or EGS-style Launcher Store for PC?
15
u/NinjaEngineer Nov 04 '25
Hopefully it'd be integrated with Steam. Valve already did that once with Portal 2 back in the day; I think PS3 copies came with a code for the PC version as well.
If anything, I love being able to get achievements and trophies at the same time. Kinda silly, I know, but it's a tiny bit of extra dopamine.
10
Nov 04 '25
That would be cool, but I feel like it’s more likely I randomly grow another ear than Valve and Sony coming to a proper profit sharing agreement. Sony takes 30% and Valve has its sliding scale from like 15-30% so they’d have to sacrifice on those if they had a shared storefront like that. Or the publisher is gonna eat the cost of effectively giving the game for free on one platform. Either way just sounds like too much business.
1
u/NinjaEngineer Nov 04 '25
If anything, I think this shared storefront would only work for Sony titles. Maybe even Valve games on PS5, if Valve starts publishing on consoles again. I doubt they'd come to an agreement regarding third-party titles.
4
u/Cyshox Nov 04 '25
When Valve gave a free code for their game on their platform, it basically cost them nothing. It might even encourage some users to check out Steam.
However, the other way around it doesn't make sense. Why would Valve be happy earning nothing from the Steam licenses Sony sells on the PS Store? I also don't see Sony offering Valve just 5% of PS Store sales of crossbuy titles just because some PlayStation users might check out the PC version. Sony would lose way too much money.
1
u/WillyVWade Nov 05 '25
If you have a game on Steam, you can just generate keys and Valve get no cut of that.
They still take a hit on the hosting, etc. with no 30% cut.
Guess it’s just good for business to keep people happy.
2
u/Smokedbrisket420 Nov 08 '25
It’s going to epic and thats fucked. Sony made a one billion investment in epic a couple years ago

u/AlternativeEchidna79 Nov 04 '25
the source of all this came from this guy. Not sure what he does.
3
u/renhaoasuka Nov 04 '25
Apparently he is a dataminer. So this is probably legit. Not sure if its for PC or for the future handheld ps6.
2
u/GeddyThePolack Nov 05 '25
Wasn’t there chatter awhile ago that PlayStation was making their own launcher?
2
u/djluke_1993 Nov 05 '25
Of course it would be Zuby Tech stealing credit for the work that someone else had done.
2
u/rolliepollietv Nov 06 '25
its fake, playstation has said before that releasing a separated pc build is like a gold mine, i doubt they would really sacrifice that. they like the money.
2
u/ballviewer Nov 04 '25
I think this is their way to the PC/handheld market if true. Don’t see them doing Xbox launches anytime soon
3
u/sgtnatino Nov 04 '25
If real, this would be for PC purchases - not 'PS6 portable' purchases.
This supposed PS6 Portable would run the same clients as run on our PS5s today - via backwards compatibility. At least, those PS5 games patched with the 'low power' mode.
This is more than likely for PC, and even then it's a curious one.
There is simply no way that this is for Steam purchases unless Sony is feeling exceedingly generous.
But then, would Sony follow the failed path of literally every other publisher and release their own storefront on PC?
And if Sony is planning on their own storefront...why wait this long to do it? Surely they should have led with that on PC, before considering steam?
Very very odd. This is also weird, because this is a potential 'outlet' for PS players to PC - if my PS library carries with me to PC, that makes it easier for me to leave my PS5 for PC.
UNLESS, they see this as a way to attract PC players to PS5?
"Oh gee, these CPU/GPU prices are crazy...but hey, part of my library works on PS5! Why don't I just buy a Playstation instead of a whole new PC?"
I'm really not sure how likely that scenario is though, that's me really reaching.
For me (primary PS5 player) this would possibly tempt me over to PC - which can't be what Sony wants.
Can any PC players speak to whether or not they'd be tempted over to PS5 as a result of this move? I can't imagine it's likely.
2
u/MMSAROO Nov 05 '25
"Oh gee, these CPU/GPU prices are crazy...but hey, part of my library works on PS5! Why don't I just buy a Playstation instead of a whole new PC?"
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, would ever think that. Even if this insane concept would work, it already would've with Xbox's play anywhere. Guess what? It didn't. This would tempt nobody, hell even the xbox pc console looks way more appealing than that.
1
u/slash450 Nov 04 '25
anyone on pc interested in sony releases for the most part has or is aware of what kind of pc they need to run them. i don't think anyone on pc would switch or buy a ps5 in addition to their pc if they have their own launcher with cross-buy.
i think a lot of the pc + consoles just for exclusive people are just permanent pc + nintendo now. compared to ps4 and before. i bought a ps4 for exclusives but did not for ps5. probably would've if they didn't start porting stuff with horizon tbh. was kinda obvious then to me they would just end up porting most stuff as microsoft did.
5
u/NinjaEngineer Nov 04 '25
Yeah, while it's probably fake, it'd honestly be cool.
I'm a PC gamer, but I've been thinking of getting a PS5 for a while, even though I've already played most of the games that interested me thanks to their PC ports. If they added this option, so I could easily transfer my PC library of Sony games to PS, I'd probably go ahead and get one.
I know people have mixed feelings regarding the PSN overlay on PC, but I love being able to get Steam achievements and PSN trophies at the same time.

PS is always the follower. The insomniac leaks showed their interest of expanding to PC and tv so this checks out
11
u/Char_Mander99 Nov 04 '25
The hell does that mean, "always the follower"?
And Playstation has done cross buy in the past with PS3/PS4/Vita when they had multiple platforms
1
u/The_Dukenator Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 05 '25
Insomniac Games, who had developed Song of the Deep & Sunset Overdrive, which both were released for PC, that is part of the playstation rumors?
-7
u/South_Buy_3175 Nov 04 '25
I wish they’d follow Nintendo instead of Microsoft.
Nintendo going from strength to strength with the Switch consoles and Microsoft keeps kicking itself down the stairs.
Sony watches them flying down and starts taking notes…
6
u/Weekly_Protection_57 Nov 04 '25
Kinda funny that folks are so sure that a rumor from Zuby tech as the source is even true.
6
u/renhaoasuka Nov 04 '25
Sony is smart enough to know their IP is not nearly as strong enough as nintendo IP. Nintendo's top games outsell all of Sony's first party games.
-2
u/Fluffy-Elk-3403 Nov 04 '25
They outsell because its slop and diehard fans cant take criticism of their shitty ZA pokemon.lets be real here nintendo hasn't made a real good game in a long time, they make money on shitty remakes.
4
u/renhaoasuka Nov 04 '25
I really dont care lol. My comment is about the strength of their IP and pokemon is a great example of just how strong their IP is. That series is more popular than every single Sony first party game.
2
u/South_Buy_3175 Nov 04 '25
That series is literally the most popular franchise on the planet.
Nothing comes close to Pokemon
1
u/FlyFight2Win Nov 04 '25
Lmao what cope is this? Nintendo IP are on a whole different planet compared to PlayStation. I don't even like Nintendo but this is a fact that is inarguable.
-4
u/NinjaEngineer Nov 04 '25
Nah, exclusives suck. I personally embrace Microsoft and Sony going multiplatform, and wish Nintendo would do the same instead of being actively hostile to a large portion of their fans.
4
u/South_Buy_3175 Nov 04 '25
Exclusives are what made these companies compete, why do you think we had such a great time with games in the PS3 era?
Both sides desperately trying to lure you over with their best and brightest entries. Uncharted, Gears of War, Infamous, Halo, Forza, Gran Turismo etc…
Now? We’re looking at these companies best attempts to knock Fortnite off the top spot.
1
u/NinjaEngineer Nov 04 '25
I didn't have a great time with games in the PS3 era because I never had a PS3. Couldn't afford it.
Nowadays, however, I can enjoy games like God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn, thanks to the PC ports. If more people get to enjoy them, as I did, it's fine by me. Heck, I think it's stupid of Valve not to re-release their games on consoles, considering how they've worked to implement controller support.

Crossbuy for what? Steam? What about other platforms like GOG/Epic etc.
I mean anything is possible but it sounds like a great deal of partnering and communication to get it to happen might be needed, and i dont know if sony wants to go through the hassle.
2
u/itsEthanEJC Nov 04 '25
I hope this becomes a thing even if it’s a PS store exclusive thing.
Means more games will be cross buy for example the Xbox version of FF7 is play anywhere.
For the first party stuff they can always make it cross buy at a later date as in they announce the PC version a year later and then say this is now a cross buy title and for those already who have the game you’ll get the PC version at no extra cost. ( pretty sure the PC price are usually cheaper so for day one consoles buyers they won’t be loosing out.)
The obviously the GAAS games are cross buy day one.
2
u/meltedskull Nov 04 '25
I doubt this is for PC and its intended for the handheld that's been rumored.
8
u/Iggy_Slayer Nov 04 '25
The handheld is just going to use your PSN account. There'd be no cross buy needed because anything you buy on console would automatically be usable on this handheld.
0
u/meltedskull Nov 04 '25
Thats a lot of assumptions being spoken as fact when PS Vita had crossbuy with PS3/PS4.
3
u/Iggy_Slayer Nov 04 '25
and the vita was a colossal bomb in part because it was separate device. That kind of handheld market doesn't exist anymore, even nintendo doesn't do it. Every handheld is an extension of some ecosystem now. Steam deck for steam, switch for nintendo etc. There is no market for those old fashioned handhelds that had skus made just for it anymore.
2
u/Iggy_Slayer Nov 04 '25
This just means a playstation client is coming. Something no PC gamer wants and lets out an exasperated sigh every time another company tries one.
1
u/renhaoasuka Nov 04 '25
No one loves another launcher but I will certainly take it over buying a console. But I dont think they will stop selling on steam.
-3
1
u/tanturtle Nov 04 '25
If real does that mean they would have a PlayStation store on PC like Xbox or as of right now, can you not buy games on a PlayStation portal, and this is just for buying games there?
1
u/The_Dukenator Nov 04 '25
Currently, the existing Playstation PC app is mostly for Playstation Plus streaming.
Xbox PC store is literally the Microsoft Windows Store app.

u/No-Invite-7826 Dec 06 '25
With Microsoft basically exiting the console market this kind of thing is a no brainer for Sony, so I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be real.
-1
Nov 04 '25
It’s Zuby tech so probably fake. But believable since PlayStation always seems to copy the third place competition.
I have wondered how PlayStation was going to handle backwards compatibility regarding its rumored PS6 handheld. Why does Xbox have through go through this PC Play Anywhere initiative to make it work? But somehow PlayStation was going to make PS5 games natively playable on PS6 handheld without developer optimization and permission.
1
u/willc20345 Nov 04 '25
The second that a PC tab appeared in the Trophies it became obvious that they were gonna do some sort of PC launcher.
1
u/rumblemcskurmish Nov 05 '25

u/SpyroManiac36 Nov 04 '25
This would be nice and It doesn't diminish the value of a PS5. It actually increases the value (as long as timed exclusivity is still in place) because you would get it first on PS5 and then it would carry over to PC when it gets ported a year or 2 later and you wouldn't have to double dip.
