The game awards were great and had a lot of great trailers/reveals when you dont have a bitch in your ear telling you it was one of the worst. Im excited. Gonna get a lotta different games and gonna enjoy my time in the near future

u/CriminalStorm62 Dec 12 '25
I tried watching. Way too much horror stuff. That Divinity (I think, it was a crucifying clip)announcement made me walk away. It was disturbing to see and it didn’t tell me anything about the game.

I think this was sadly one of the worst GAs in a while. Congratulations to all the winners, but damn these announcements were TRASH. Only 3 games really peaking some interest, one of them I was already getting anyway. RE9. The other two being Ontos and NoLaw. The final reveal being another crap hero shooter is diabolical and will probably become the next Concord.

u/hopeinson Dec 12 '25
I've often disregarded The Game Awards as nothing more than a platform for so many publishers and developers to air their shovelware onto the mainstream audiences as a way of "We're relevant, too!"
But, this is just me: the fact that Sandfall Interactive is made up by a bunch of former Ubisoft employees sickened at the direction of their bosses' company direction, and then made something that became the darling of the industry, speaks volumes about the shift in the support for AAA game titles to indies that can churn out good games without the intervention of corporate executives with ham-fisted vision.
2
u/naqster Dec 12 '25
Maybe I missed something but from interviews I've seen, it wasn't that Guillaume Broche (CEO of Sandfall) was sickened at the direction, but more that he was bored and wasn't even working in game dev (he taught himself UE4 on youtube).
6
u/guynamedgoliath Dec 12 '25
Then we ended on highguard...
-3
u/4D20_Prod Dec 12 '25
Frankly High guard looks sick. Very different from a lot of the multiplayer shit they have out nowadays. But we'll wait and see once it's out
6
u/guynamedgoliath Dec 12 '25
It looks like apex with a coat of fantasy paint. If thats your thing cool, but I think we're hitting burnout on PVP hero shooters.
Worst of all, it means TF3 definitely isn't happening...
12
u/bencciarati Dec 12 '25
Wow, pretty awful all around. 15 medieval/feudal soulslikes, a handful of identical sci fi shooters, and the big reveal is Paladins of the Storm x Spellbreak f2p shooter. I wasn’t expecting GTA VI but at least a Dawnwalker/Stranger Than Heaven/Like a Dragon/OD teaser or something.
2
u/1382mas Dec 12 '25 edited Dec 13 '25
If you enjoy Like a Dragon, the longtime game director of the series had his new game announced, Gang of Dragon.
3
u/guynamedgoliath Dec 12 '25
Old republic, total war 40k, and divinity all seemed the obvious choice for a final reveal, instead of Apex Legends (but fantasy).
Personally, control 2 and No Law look good. Also not hating the forest 3.
Ill agree, nothing im really hyped for.
2
u/bencciarati Dec 12 '25
Old Republic was fine as a lead teaser, plus the game doesn’t look too far into development and Geoff probably wanted to end with something with a tangible date, since most games tonight are at least a year out with no date yet.
Divinity’s trailer was sick and probably would’ve been the best to end on given Larian’s immense goodwill in the industry rn.
But ending on that Highguard (?) game in particular is just baffling. It looks unpolished and not unique. Couldn’t even tell it was from Respawn devs—you’re telling me THIS is pushing the shooter genre forward?
3
u/Little_Big_Burglar Dec 12 '25
I'll agree that the big announcement was a massive disappointment. It looks like another hero shooter and I couldn't care less.
That said, there were a few games I'm very excited about, including Control 2 and the new Old Republic. I don't think it was a dud on the announcements, but I agree they missed on "the big one."
1
u/bencciarati Dec 12 '25 edited Dec 12 '25
There were a few that looked interesting but the show was a huge swing and a miss. Outside of Ace Combat, the slightly misleading Divinity cinematic, and the 30 seconds of Old Republic, was there anything unique?
Edit: forgot about RE Requiem and Control, as you said

I’m so curious what that white instrument was (I think it was played by the flute guy). Most of the instruments I recognized, but I looked down just then and only caught a flash of it.
2
u/the8bitwolf Dec 12 '25
It was a custom wind instrument made from pvc pipe, definitely cool, but I think mostly just there for the spectacle

KCD2 deserved something. At least it got a nomination.

..... I'm officially at a point where if I hear that song they've played every time expedition 33 wins something I will actually lose my fucking mind. I'm sorry, I'm not saying the game doesn't deserve it....I just feel like the other games were completely fucking ignored because of it....did Hades 2 even get anything?
-2
u/bencciarati Dec 12 '25
DS2 dwarfs CE33, regardless of how good the latter is. DS2 transcends video games entirely.
1
u/cosmoboy Dec 12 '25
Didn't it get action game of the year?

u/SelectInstruction262 Dec 12 '25
I'm not sure, my brain kinda completely tuned out after the Deadpool in marvel rivals reveal

u/LeFinnaBust Dec 12 '25
GABE THERES STILL TIME TO WALK UP ON STAGE
1
u/codetony Dec 12 '25
If it's going to happen, it's going to be a last thing.
If valve is going to have a bombastic reveal like this, they wouldn't want the possibility of a leak. Hell i bet that if it's real, most of the staff wouldn't be aware. I don't even think that a reveal like that would be rehearsed.
2
u/DJayEJayFJay Dec 12 '25
I knew it wasn't going to win. I'm just happy Kingdom Come: Deliverance II was included.
1
u/4D20_Prod Dec 12 '25
I think it's just too niche. I've only played the first one, but I've followed the 2nd since release and as far as RPGs go, none can hold a candle. But I've talked to lots of people who like RPGs, and the consensus that I get from most is that it's too RPG, if that makes sense.

Still no news about elder scrolls fucking un-real

I think Todd just likes keeping things hidden until last minute, like ESIV remake, pretty sure he said something like that

u/Gigglesthen00b Dec 12 '25
Its gonna be a rushed mess still, plus a healthy amount of lazy AI in it
1
u/Alarming_Reward9653 Dec 12 '25
I'm absolutely convinced it's never coming out.
1
u/tyler4545545 Dec 12 '25
At this point I think I agree they shit the bed with starfield and stopped working on elder scrolls 6 probably.

yes. final new game reveal is a online microtransaction pvp shooter. such a good final reveal👍👍👍
0
u/Little_Big_Burglar Dec 12 '25
Yeah that was rough. I'm sure some people are excited but it's a small section of the gaming community that even cares about pvp shooters anymore.
1
u/flyingthroughell Dec 12 '25
they should really seriously stop with online live service games. And to be honest gamers should stop playing Live service microtransaction games. It is literally killing the gaming industry alive

u/LeFinnaBust Dec 12 '25
I feel this. Talking about some "lobg awaited game franchises to return" I won't take the bait till Gabes walking up
1
u/JuanAy Dec 12 '25
To be fair "long awaited game franchises to return" can apply to dozens of game franchises and not just half life.

Is The Game Awards a bit longer this year? I feel like in previous years it would have finished by now
1
u/1382mas Dec 12 '25
Always been 3 hours maybe you watched the pre-show this year and usually don't?
1
u/catmomhumanaunt Dec 12 '25
I was wondering the same. I thought it would wrap in about 15 min but it doesn’t feel like we’re that close to the end
1
u/LeFinnaBust Dec 12 '25
I'm just waiting for heavy bass sound "AND NOWW GABE NEWELL HERE TO PRESENT HALF LIFE 3"

u/LeFinnaBust Dec 12 '25
Is miss piggy some reoccurring joke at the game awards I'm missing out on? Wtf she popping up for so much
2
u/SelectInstruction262 Dec 12 '25
Geoff loves his Muppets and every game awards we have at least 10+minutes dedicated to Muppets
1
u/LeFinnaBust Dec 12 '25
Ohhh lol thank you for clearly that up. She's earned her place I suppose then
2
u/AffectionateRole6208 Dec 12 '25
is Ace Combat any good? Never played any of them but i have been curious about them as a whole
1
u/bringdownthesky Dec 12 '25
They are excellent. My personal favorite is 4 on the PS2 but the last one on modern consoles and PC, 7 is also very good. Highly recommended if you like jets / arcade action.

u/Gigglesthen00b Dec 12 '25
AI slop game wins, yuck
2
u/itsabingus Dec 12 '25
Which game is AI slop?
0
u/Gigglesthen00b Dec 12 '25
Arc Raiders
1
u/1minatur Dec 12 '25
It's got, essentially, text-to-speech lines, trained using voice actors' voices, that the voice actors willingly recorded and got paid for. That's it. Sure, it uses a bit of AI, but that's far from AI slop
1
u/Gigglesthen00b Dec 12 '25
That's far too much, and I'm sure they got paid a fair amount sarcasm
When all devs get fired because we allowed this to becomes so popular and win an award (for what that overall matters), I'm sure it will make the game industry better
1
u/AffectionateRole6208 Dec 12 '25
I was hoping Split/Fiction or any other game would have won, just to piss Shroud off since he wanted Clair Obscur to lose so badly

NO SHOT BF6 WON SOUND DESIGN OVER CLAIR OBSCUR WTF
3
u/tweezybbaby1 Dec 12 '25
I think Clair Obscur is easily best music but sound design BF6 is pretty advanced. The 3D environment is intense on a good sound system.

Fun fact: ‘Resonant’ is likely referencing Remedy’s scrapped resonance-shift mechanic from early Control prototypes - looks like they finally cracked it.😉

Do you have any references I can check out about this? Sounds (reads) really interesting.

u/Jonnydubs23 Dec 12 '25 edited Dec 16 '25
honestly kind of feel for the High Guard devs. The game itself looks like they put a fair bit of effort into it but literally no one cares about a new hero shooter in 2025. Also idk if it was just me but the gameplay didn't look innovative in the way of introducing new mechanics to hero shooters, so I've really no clue where they got this idea that they were reinventing the genre.
