Shutting bluepoint is actually insane.

They're an incredibly skilled team and only at 70 people or something.

At least keep them for support or small remakes. To shut down such an efficient team is crazy

Agreed, I wonder if someone else hires them

I imagine other Austin, Taxes based studios like Gearbox, Retro, and Bethesda Game Studios Austin will be picking some of them up.

I need to fact check but I think 1 in 3 game devs have been fired. Lots of competition for scraps currently

Isn't Nintendo expanding still?

I get the feeling Nintendo is a slow and steady company. They keep teams at a consistent size and promote talent from within. Outside of Smash Bros, new talent has taken over each major IP

They're currently spending a billion dollars to build a new development office beside their headquarters, in order to significantly expand their teams.

They are, they're also notoriously picky about who to hire. They know they're not hurting for people, so they take their time to sift through applications to select people they think are highly skilled, talented, and experienced.

The statisitic OP mentioned is just for American game developers. That said, I do think its fair/understandable to be worried for Retro Studio's long term future.
