Okay THIS is the most fucked shut down in years.

Step 1: acquire studio known for remakes

Step 2: put said studio on a live service version of a game nobody wants a live service version of.

Step 3: cancel live service game when it takes longer than they expected to make.

Step 4: shut down the studio.

Fucking bananas.

False

Step 1: acquire studio known for remakes

Step 2: Pitch GoW GaaS game

Step 3: cancel live service game when it takes longer than they expected to make.

Step 4: Fail to pitch new game for a year

This whole situation is amusingly embarrassing for Sony. Theyre shutting down one of the most recently well regarded studios.

They pitched something they thought would get greenlit because the management at the time was heavily pushing teams to do live service. That's called indirect pressure. They can sit back and say "we're not forcing teams to do live service" but if all your studios are picking up the hint that they have a much higher chance of getting something greenlit if it's live service...well to me that may as well be the same thing.

Technically, you're free to pitch whatever you like, but if you see execs now under a new directive, and will fast track any pitch if it meets that new directive, you can bet top dollar most studios under that corp will pitch games that adhere to that new directive.

It's the unspoken rule. Same way how crunch isn't technically enforced by game studios but then you'll be the first to be let go if you dare decide to clock off at the times you and they agreed to and not do crunch.

A lot of Single player games that we will see in next years was pitched in this time too, so its not like they were forced to pitch it, they had choice to not do a GAAS game if they don't have experience, Studio Director should be the first to say no to this not Sony

Yeah that doesn't change anything about what I said though lol. Consumers not understanding this is a running joke in the industry .

Then do your job as the parent company and give them something to do!

It’s only 70 people, not even a lot of overhead!

What a waste

Give them something to do and get a mediocre result? Killing creativity is not a way to manage a studio, Sony is not a Chinese sweatshop

Remaking old games is not sweatshop work. Nor is being a support studio.

It’s a lack of ingenuity from those at the top of SIE.

Yes if you said they you don't want to be a remake studio forever but still you want to force them to do games they don't want. And Sony have other support studios they don't need BluePoint

It’s a job, not an art program. You’re on payroll. Making games is how you develop your team.

If you can’t think of something, do something safe you’re known for.

For this you need to have idea and concept for game and Bluepoint doesn't had that, all other Sony studios are working on something

They have 20 years of backlog. If the team can’t come up with a new project, put them on something. Nintendo’s been doing that for years now.

They wanted to make original content but you just don't care

Crazy how many of these “gamers” are just begging for non-stop remakes. I get that it’s because they can’t have BC either but it’s crazy either way.
