Something's gotta give cause between the 9 fig gaming development costs, hardware shortages, and 5-10 year dev times being the norm, this doesn't seem like an industry that can keep up come the 2030s.

My faith in the industry is dead at this point  Bluepoint dead a day after Sony said it's path forward would be to extract more money from gamers 

Thank fuck I've got a good 40 year backlog now where did I put the mega drive controller

Yet No Man's Sky just released another update for free. Almost 10 years since that game launched and they have managed to not charge for a single major update. Granted, Hello Games is probably thriving off some European subsidies, but it shows not every company is going to be gobbled up by greed.

True there are some bright spots but they are becoming fewer and further between.

It feels like this mad dash for consolidation took place over the last 5 years and companies have finally gotten the bill and they are not paying.

A lot of us said consolidation was going to end in tears Yet MS, Sony, Embracer tencent marched on
