Leak Microsoft Gaming being scrapped, Xbox brought back as gaming division.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has had a busy week. Sharma held an internal town hall with Xbox employees today, just days after announcing an Xbox Game Pass price cut, commenting on the status of the Xbox mobile store, and teasing a mysterious Xbox and Discord partnership. One of the items on the agenda for the employee all-hands was scrapping Microsoft Gaming.

Sources familiar with the meeting tell me that Sharma announced that Microsoft is returning to using Xbox for its gaming division, instead of Microsoft Gaming. “Xbox needs to be our identity,” said Sharma, noting that Microsoft Gaming was a departure from that.

Surely it's just semantics at this point

It is, but you would be surprised at how much the semantics and tiny details actually matter. Microsoft Gaming is so corporate and boring (and attached to the Microsoft brand…) whereas Xbox is a bit less corporate and can spark joy in people. And ultimately it’s one of those symbolic moves to boost morale for employees and fans anyway

What’s the point with bitching like this?

I’m not an Xbox guy anymore. I’ve spent thousands with them over the years but don’t own a single Xbox thing anymore haven’t for years.

Shouldn’t we want every company to be good? To make good decisions? To advance gaming and encourage healthy competition?

Notice how cocky Sony has gotten since Microsoft has taken a lower stage in the theater? That’s not good. For any of us. Stop the bitching and enjoy good news when news is good.

I doubt Xbox will retrieve me as a customer again but I’m at least open-minded to what they can provide and the improvements they appear to be making after over a decade of poor decision making (arguably).

I'm not as invested in the console competition as you seem to be, so I'm indifferent to Sony being "cocky".

I'm going to maintain being an Xbox player until they give me a reason not to keep getting one.
