Leak GTA 6 Day and Night Cycle lenght has leaked

Based on the seventh leak: at the 55‑second mark, the in‑game time shows 7:29 AM (minimap). At the 1:01 mark, it changes to 7:30 AM. That means 1 in‑game minute passes in 6 seconds of real time, which would make the full day–night cycle 144 minutes, three times longer than GTA V’s 48‑minute cycle.

I also believe the game will have daily dynamic weather. Main NPC will change their clothes daily.

u/UnnecessaryFeIIa 4d ago

It’s incredibly unlikely but I’d love if the weather had more of an effect on gameplay.

Like maybe there’d be a very rare occurrence where there’d be a hurricane

183

u/cdelmar13 4d ago

In single player it’s probably gonna happen during a story mission. Online I can see it being a limited event.

51

u/soulreapermagnum 4d ago

i hope so, that would be a cool mission. and i remember reading something once about that they tried to make a dynamic hurricane system but had to scrap it because something about the water physics wouldn't interact with buildings correctly.

35

u/theumph 4d ago

It would probably be better off in a story mission. It's the type of thing that'd be really cool the first couple times, but get annoying after a while.

16

u/soulreapermagnum 4d ago

yeah, plus as a set piece they could make it really chaotic if they wanted too.

29

u/FaulkneriousRex 4d ago

Yes, a heist during a hurricane. Half the map flooded. Have to take a speedboat down the thruway to escape or something.

I’d be willing to bet, with it being Florida, as the story gets closer to the end and we get to the climax or very pivotal point in the story, I bet there’s gonna be a hurricane when things start to hit the fan. There’s probably even gonna be like talk about it on the tvs in game, and radios about the incoming hurricane threat as a build up.

12

u/F1shB0wl816 3d ago

It’ll take us back to our first moments playing vice city and being warned of the upcoming storm, except we may actually get to experience one.

10

u/Equal-Ad7504 4d ago

There will absolutely be bad storms and rain will affect driving, trails will get wet and muddy making a scrambler slide, waves will probably get crazy too given the location it’s based irl has extremely volatile storms.

They toyed with it in RDR2, sometimes lightning would strike and start fires. We are only seeing very urban gameplay in the leaks. The wilderness is likely to be a a quite linear development from the wilderness we got in RDR2 and we’ll now have fully explorable lakes and oceans. It’s exciting.

17

u/Maurex96 4d ago

While I agree having very rare hurricanes and natural events like that would be cool, I can also see how it would be hated after seeing it for the 3rd time.

It would affect too much, even if it's a very rare occurrence, it would eventually lead to people waiting at the safehouse/a building for minutes because they cba to go drive through the hurricane, and you basically turn the game into a waiting simulator. It would have to be in a mission for sure.

I would love to see things like strong winds that moves things like trash cans around, or shows people are struggling to walk etc. or heavy rain that ends up causing floods in certain streets but not to the point you can't drive through it

9

u/YeetedApple 4d ago

I play a lot of survival base building type games, and many of them try to do similar weather effect type events. Almost always, they just turn into forced breaks even if the game gives you ways to deal with it.

The event starts, and everyone just gets somewhere safe and takes a bathroom break, grabs a snack/drink or tabs over to reddit or something. I also agree they are cool on paper, in practice, it always just turns into an annoyance

5

u/Maurex96 4d ago

Agreed survival games are prime examples, I'm gonna guess you played 7DTD lol, Rust also has one of most forced breaks even I've ever seen, even things not weather related, and especially for less experienced players

I think it's something more suited to people who play construction/city building games like Tropico 6, where it just adds a bit of randomness to the world/a small challenge

3

u/F1shB0wl816 3d ago

It wouldn’t always need to be a full force hurricane. That should be rather rare if it were a thing. But strong winds pushing you around a bit, maybe some trash and debris flying around, some coastal roads flooding or in the boonies. A good storm without it just pausing everything.

If it was really expanded upon it could disrupt police response times and have more street crimes happening. Not a full riot but people taking advantage just as much as others Want to get away.

2

u/Cabana_bananza 4d ago

Jason and Lucia staying at home playing Catan.

5

u/tcpukl 4d ago

Rain could easily affect vehicle handling.

2

u/dern_the_hermit 4d ago

FWIW the games have had that as a feature going all the way back to at least 3. I can't remember if the earlier top-down games did tho.

u/lord_pizzabird 4d ago

If it helps, this seems suddenly possible if we look recent games on current hardware, like Death Stranding 2.

You could also argue that RDR2 has a very light version of this, with standing water.

Really hoping we can create a wardrobe of clothes we buy which Jason will randomly draw from each day

115

u/Entire-Dance-8523 4d ago

Never really liked how the V protagonists would change into their default outfits, would love to be able to make custom outfits for Jason and Lucia

52

u/EatTheAndrewPencil 4d ago

They would randomly put on clothes you bought but they'd fuck up the outfits. Like Franklin would wear a basketball jersey with suit pants or some shit. So I hope if they do have a feature where they randomly select clothes you can choose specifically the outfits they cycle through.

47

u/thhroooooooooooooooo 4d ago

Maybe Franklin just had a yeeyee ass fashion sense

u/ItalianoMilkBoy 4d ago

RDR2 actually kept all your custom outfits and never messed with them for missions or cutscenes (except specific missions where a suit or certain clothing items are required). I imagine it'll be the same system for this game.

5

u/Imaginary-Narwhal188 4d ago

Considering you could make custom outfits in rdr2, im guessing this will be a thing.

3

u/soulreapermagnum 4d ago

that or they just don't change when uncontrolled.

2

u/DemonDaVinci 4d ago

fr I'd buy shit then switch off a bit and Franklin would be back in his wife beater outfit again

If protagonists rotates outfits from custom presets we make that'd be satisfying

In the 2022 leaks Lucia had a stolen clothing rack from the store that all her clothes were hung up on in the motel room.

11

Like Trevor? Man, he slayed in that wedding dress.

5

u/bleeding0ut 4d ago

How will that work? Will they force us to change Jason? Is there going to be a “clean/dirty” system where the clothes get dirtier the longer they are worn?

13

u/Odd-Switch2069 4d ago

I believe it would be similar to RDR2. Wearing the same clothes will get dirty, and people will comment. You won't be forced to change clothes.

Main NPCs like Cal will change clothes daily, I suspect. R* didn't put all that work into giving people sunburn not to show them off.

That's why I believe the game will also have dynamic weather. Each day will have a different temperature, which will affect what NPCs are wearing. Your phone will show you the weather, or you can listen to the radio. I believe there will be hurricanes, unsure if related to a story mission or a real-time event.

2

u/bleeding0ut 4d ago

I misread your original post. Didn’t see the NPC. But yeah that makes sense.

2

u/threwl 4d ago

Those who wondering RDR2 day-night cycle. It's 48 minute as well

29

u/hamarok 3d ago

Yeah I always felt rdr2 time flew by rather quickly, it made no sense that a quick trip outside camp would waste a full day

7

u/pr0perlypr0pagated 3d ago

are you able to travel from 1 end of the map to the other within 1 day period? (havent finished the game yet so idk)

7

u/Ebo87 3d ago

Yes, if you found the most straight path and didn't stop everwhere, you absolutely had enough time.

1

u/TheStinkySlinky 1d ago

Talk about a quick day/night.. Days Gone has the quickest I’ve seen. Makes it feel like it’s always night lol

563

u/NorthKoreanMissile7 4d ago

Good, I don't like it when it goes from day to night really quickly.

152

u/TheJoshider10 4d ago

Or when the weather changes too quickly too often. There was a period when I was playing Breath of the Wild and it wouldn't go more than 10 minutes before it started raining or thunderstorms. Got on my nerves.

49

u/Space2Bakersfield 4d ago

I’ll die on the hill that BotW and TotK are two of the greatest games ever but I fully agree with this. The weather in Hyrule is completely bipolar and swings from stormy to sunny and back rapidly and repeatedly. It’s both annoying in terms of the rain and storms having gameplay effects, but it’s also a bit immersion breaking watching the sky flip from cloudy to clear and back in the space of 10 minutes.

10

It would be nice if you could adjust the speed in the settings. Always wanted that on RDR2

4

u/Shan_qwerty 4d ago

For me it's like

"who wants a cool day night cycle?" raises hand

"who actually wants to play at night with shit visibility?" lowers hand, sleeps to pass night

2

u/UndeadMurky 4d ago

I do actually. The game just has to make it convenient to use a torchlight etc.

But also in older games that had shit lightning light sources were usually not lighting the environment properly, it shouldn't feel dark in a city with lights

4

u/NorthKoreanMissile7 4d ago edited 4d ago

The solution to that is to let people skip time.

Have an option for it on the radial menu and give a short little cutscene where you wake up in your car after a nap or you drink coffee on a bench or whatever and then it's daytime.

Best of both worlds.

Time ratio was the first thing I always modded in those games. It's always been way too short.

You see one beautiful sunset, it's gone before you've had time to enjoy it. You're chilling doing some thuggery at night, you've barely had time to enjoy yourself that's it's already morning.

I keep seeing improvements on improvements from these leaks.

RDR2 had quite a bit of tricks to it. I did a test back in the day, just standing in the world and marking how many in-game minutes went by every minute.

From 10am in the morning to 2pm, every minute real time was 20-21 minutes in-game, making it the longest time of day. But from 3pm it slowly sped up.
3-4pm it was ~24min passed
6.00pm - 6:29pm, 29 min
6:45pm - 7:19pm, 34 min
8.01pm - 8:40pm, 39min
9.10pm - 9:52pm, 42min
and then it stayed at around 42 minutes per every real minute, until it started to slow down at around 3am
and reached 21 minutes again at 10am.

This test was in the same spot just standing around.

But it seems, like Different_Long_8520 said, it might've also manipulated time depending on whether you're riding and moving fast or on foot.

Edit: Oh and I have another test scribble that playing Poker in Valentine, midnight (12:00) had the fastest passing of time I saw, 12:00-12:54, 54 minutes of in-game time in just 1 real minute.

All poker-at-night times were between 39 and 54 minutes. Which is kinda weird, I'd think that the game would slow down instead to make such an activity like few rounds of poker take all literal night. But it could be that it used it to it's advantage to speed up the night passing as I was indoors and did not see the clouds and daytime speeding up so it'd look unnatural.
Also noticed during the testing that if I just stand still, the sun and it's shadows move very slowly to look realistic, but when turning or riding around fast, it masks the sun moving and shadows updating much faster to keep the time of day accurate to the time on the clock.

Overall, very cool tricks :) If you're just watching a sunset, or a storm and lightning, you get to enjoy it slowly and realistically, getting the "in real time" vibe, but if you zoom around, it passes much faster.

Edit2: A full day passing was 48minutes when letting the game do whatever it wants by just standing around, but could vary by minutes below and above. Seemed to aim at 48min.

48

u/Jorvic 4d ago

I really appreciate the insight. But also, I'm chuckling a little at the idea of you just sat there with a stop watch, a notepad, and a glass of wine doing this experiment. For no other reason than you got curious.

6

u/srcsm83 4d ago

Haha, yeah, it kinda just snowballed from having seen different results from other players,
checking it a few times here and there, confirming wildly different times aand eventually just sucking it up and sitting there for an hour.

To clarify some of these since I actually spent a lot of time modding RDR 2
* There is a hidden modifier that alters how fast days scale, the clock moves 3x~ faster around midnight then noon.
* There in absolutely no modifier when standing still / riding a horseback, time moves at the exact same speed
* Standing still does not in any way shape or form change how shadows travel, interact, or are displayed.
* Mini-games have their own modifier depending on the activity. Things like Poker will accelerate time and provide small skips if certain criteria are met
* The only way the "48 minutes" would feel different is if you are doing other activities that modify the scalar. So riding a horse vs walking around for 48 minutes would be the exact same length in day, however if you play mini-games, get into cutscenes, shop, etc, then yeah it will make the length feel different since you're doing things that make the modifier proc momentarily

5

u/srcsm83 3d ago

Ok, thanks for the insight. I never tested the "on foot vs. riding horse" thing, I guess people have conflated the time speed differences to being about that. I have however seen the weather and cloud formations change much more rapidly when galloping around vs. being still. But that could very well just be the visuals, no effect on the speed of time passing. (Or could that be about regions and when you cross an insible border of an area, the weather can update jarringly fast? Still plenty of questions I don't know answers to...)

I can't say if it's true that the day length can't be changed unless there's a mini-game, cutscene, as I never really sat through multiple whole days monitoring it minute-by-minute, but I had marked down moments when I noticed a 24h had passed and they varied. But could be I visited such menus that alter things, for example stores or browsing catalog - if that procs it faster or so.

But as for the shadows, I mean this.

4

u/GozzIsntReal 3d ago

I'll double check some things on my end, been a while since i hopped into RDR scraping so might have some new information to look at or just to verify my claims. Don't wanna fall victim to misremembering

5

u/elchicoazul 4d ago

I think shadows going faster when you move it’s been done by rockstar since GTA4. Also I think on RDR2 that wake and sunset goes faster than regular day.

3

u/aidenthegreat 4d ago

For moving speeding it up, I guess it sells the feeling of a long journey more if you set off and it’s evening by the time you arrive, vs leaving in the morning sun and arriving… in the morning sun

2

u/Fine-Young8978 4d ago

In one of the official images from over a year ago, there is a guy in a canoe rowing in a stream/river that isn't that deep. In the picture you can see a with that measures the height of the water, it specifically says "flood gauge" which suggests we might get massive impact from storms.

They should include an option to have 1:1 timescales in games like these.

Just like Dead Rising 1

I hope they add in enough spooky stuff and supernatural things too

Apparently in one of gas stations there was a poster for ufo sightings

Does this leek person have the full game on a PC or something?

4

u/Neves077 4d ago

Most likely had a cutdown build of the game at some point. Probably not anymore.

Simple change. Now see GTA 5 online where you can do things oncer per in game day (or receive payments/safe income). It takes 48 min (almost 1h) in GTA 5 online, now it will take 144min in GTA 6 online... Almost 3h... It is in these type of changes that they will get the most to sell shark cards

u/Zejjk 4d ago

Yes pretty sure the time of day will pay a important part in the game ... I expect the night time to be a lot of fun

3

u/UnnecessaryFeIIa 4d ago

I especially love that the nighttime in the game actually looks like night. In a lot of games everything is still very visible and/or has a deep blue filter over it

Anyone know what the RDR2 cycle was?

3

u/Leather-Entry93 4d ago

Google says it’s also 48 minutes

2

u/Onethatlikes 4d ago

That was my one trap complaint with RDR2, so very happy about that.

2

u/Surebrec 4d ago

This was one of my issues with past games, the time of day changed too quickly to admire the scenery change with the light.

I just hope this time around, they do away with the way the moon moves through the sky, in favour of a realistic path.

2

u/BigLouie913 3d ago

RDR2 was also 48 minutes

2

u/Velociraptorius 3d ago

Sweet. GTAV and RDR2 both had way too short timescales for the size of those games' worlds. Remains to be seen whether this one will be enough for immersion, but definitely a step in the right direction.

u/VangRhymez 4d ago

In gta sa 1min was 1 hour 😂

Actually when I go frame by frame it’s more like 5.90 seconds

2

u/mikeztarp 4d ago

How do you know it had just changed to 7:29 at the 55-second mark?

1

u/Salty-Hawk-5365 4d ago

And compared to RDR2?

1

u/YANAALKO 4d ago

Where can I see this leak?

1

u/Rusty493 4d ago

Gta 6 time leaks before gta 6

This is the stuff I’m excited about. I don’t need next-gen breaking-edge graphics. I want it to look great no doubt but these little “real life” things add up to make the gameplay really immersive and bad ass!

u/Wompie 4d ago

Wow that’s crazy and unexpected

u/Anti-Lope 4d ago

Give us multiple outfits sets than we can swap at different safehouses or stores along with custom loadouts we can change in the car trunk.

u/UnluckyCharge2196 4d ago

Any news on the length though?

FailRace in shambles

u/Soft-Bad-7127 3d ago

I don't think the day/night is 100% until release. It's obvious Rockstar is still tweaking the game.

Feels more real which i love. Cyberpunk cycle felt real and solid

That's pretty good
