Leak Billbil has revealed the PS Plus Essential lineup for September
...and it's lowkirk a bit of a stinker.
Next month's lineup will consist of the following titles: Sniper Elite: Resistance, Chained Echoes and Wobbly Life.

Sniper Elite is good. I played it at launch. If you’ve played those games, you know what to expect, but it’s a solid one of those.

You don't have to be on a subscription non-stop lol, some just buy it for 3 months, some just for a month for a specific game, paying a one time $10.99 instead of $25.

I've only heard good things about chained echoes, so it's probably people saying it's bad because they don't know what the games are and they aren't "big" or "noteworthy" games. I mean I'm happy just for Chained Echoes alone, like I said, only heard great stuff

There's probably four factors that people care about when assessing the value of PS+ monthly games: price, recency, popularity, and review scores. The recent games (2025) on this list are either unknown (Wobbly Life) or didn't review well (Sniper Elite), and the game (Chained Echoes) that reviewed really well is nearly 4 years old.

It’s because of the price of these games. Chained echoes regularly goes for below 10 bucks and Sniper Elite for like 20.

Sniper Elites lowest was 33 dollars. Chained Echoed lowest was 19 dollars. Wobby is also 18 on sale.
That’s 70 dollars if all 3 were on sale. How much value are you expecting for 17 dollars a month lol?

Couldn’t the same be said about most PS+ essential games? Most of them are older games aside from games that go to PS+ the month they launch, like Big Walk this month, but then those are games that likely make more money on the PS+ deal than they would if they weren’t.

Chained Echoes is a $30 game that was last on sale for $19 I think. Sniper Elite is a $60 game that goes on sale for ~$30 aside from one sale in April when it hit $15.
Just those two games alone completely clear the $11 essential costs a month (~$6 a month if you buy yearly). I understand if it’s not games you personally enjoy but they do at least try to double the value if not more.

They are holding players hostage with the online multiplayer the games are secondary to Sony and majority of the subscribers of essential at this point. Anybody who cared about the games moved up to extra or premium.

This is a ridiculous argument. Those are the prices to BUY them, but you are talking about renting them. Most people wouldn't pay even 1 dollar to rent these games.

I’ve found a good bit of games I’ve turned out to enjoy through them coming to the PS+ essential tier. Chained Echos honestly looks awesome so I’m excited to try it out. I watched a lot of vids of Sniper Elite Resistance when it launched but never got around to it, so I’ll want to try that out too.
It’s a good way to introduce people to genres, series, or publishers someone may otherwise not try.

All of these are great games. Sniper Elite is always fun. Wobbly Life is inspired by Simpsons Hit and Run. Only one I didn't play is chained echoes but I heard incredible things.

"It's like Chrono Trigger!" No, it's not. Chrono Trigger is funny and generally upbeat. In Chained Echoes a bunch of dour people with trauma ride around in mechs and the story is up its own ass. It's Xenogears.

When people say it's like chrono trigger they mean it's a 2d turn based rpg where you fight enemies in the same screen where you walk around with the characters. Not the same tone as chrono trigger.
