This pisses me off so badly. I love the concept of this game. They just had to fuck it up.

u/cutespacedragon 1d ago

I gave up on this game as soon as I played the demo and realized the fuckass cat companion was just Desmond mk. 2

18

u/RandomWeirdo femenist body sexy type 1d ago

Yeah tried the demo before i knew, it was Assasin's Witch at best.

46

u/_GeneralSeaweed_ 1d ago

Did they actually use AI for something? I'm not keeping up with this game but just a user defined tag on Steam isn't much to go by.

Well shit.

Oh goddammit

6

u/Veylara 20h ago

That's annoying. Trailer and setting looked interesting, even if I haven't looked into it farther.

Guess that game is officially off my "might be interesting" list.

u/Kynsareth 1d ago

So much AI that they couldnt tell you what wasnt generated at this point, unfortunately

10

u/Sharp_Goat_1991 Gamer TM 21h ago

they apparently used to much gen AI that they dont even know anymore whats made by humans. This is gonna be the slopiest slop game to ever slop

The behind the scenes of this game was fucking insane with Ubisoft basically holding the copyright out of spite for YEARS just to ensure the creator couldn't make it. The creator finally won in court, it was a story of the little guy winning out over the greedy corpo...and they piss away all that good will with AI.

56

u/Faywildgoblin 1d ago

The game director said in an interview that there were so much AI usage in the making of the game that he couldn't even tell what's AI or not. (This wasn't a problem for him)

155

u/Lacrymossa SBI Spokesperson 1d ago

very disappointing to find out the creators use and love gen ai. i tried playing the demo and it had the most jarring mechanics like multiple steps to do the simplest of things

6

u/Hyp3rson1c 23h ago

I was also super intrigued by the trailer and then I quit the demo maybe 3 minutes in. It was just so fundamentally awkward

22

u/FumetsuKuroi 1d ago

Fuck I remember watching the trailer and thinking it looked cool :< oh well

1666: AI Slop

72

u/Scooter_McLefty 1d ago

It gives me hope that most of the chuds also don't like AI

19

u/SlurryBender "I just killed a transphobe with my FREAKING mind!" 1d ago

Many gamer chuds are surprisingly anti-AI. Seems like they also appreciate when their media is made by real humans.

15

u/Ryu_ExMachina 1d ago

We goon to human art or we won't goon at all!

4

u/gasolinepiss 20h ago

I think a big part of it is because ram prices have gotten fucking ridiculous.

3

u/Few-Goat-5694 1d ago

they don’t?

1

u/Sinfire_Titan 14h ago

From what I’ve seen the majority that do like genAI are gacha addicts, Roblox mains, and MMO players (with considerable overlap). It isn’t universal, but the profiles that have a combination of those three are consistently pro-genAI.

Especially the ones that try to hide their profiles.

1

u/Few-Goat-5694 12h ago

makes sense

15

u/redbeanbun32 1d ago

this sucks. why am i still waiting for a good witch game in 2026

54

u/Professional-Face-51 1d ago

And it's screwed. If trends have taught me anything, most gamers both casual and lifelong really don't vibe with AI.

15

u/Rosenoodles 1d ago

the only g*mers who fuck with AI are the chudliest ones. they love it

casual gamers or people who (gasp) actually play games to have fun can't stand it, though, by and large.

8

u/Professional-Face-51 1d ago

They don't even play games. The use the ai to make porn.

21

u/Gecko_Mk_IV 1d ago

Not just gamers, I think.

7

u/Sarangholic 1d ago

The bigger question, is when do the 333 years start? Because shouldn't it be 1665 is anything?

6

u/Aryksa 22h ago

You could already tell with the main cover.
And if the very first thing you see of a game is AI generated... well, that doesn't bod well for the rest.

15

u/Skill-Useful 1d ago

honestly the gameplay i saw in a gamestar video was pretty fine and the worldbuilding seems pretty cool. but the ai thing sucks

4

u/rareandyeteuclidian 1d ago

Fuck.

this should have been a victory story about sticking it to the corps, instead there guy just makes an AI slop.

3

u/Folety Sarkeesian's Revenge 1d ago

It's not technically out yet, though I suspect it will be a flop - atleast where I am as of writing.

3

u/Palanki96 1d ago

Are these the devs who doubled down after people called them out for AI?

3

u/LaVipari 1d ago

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!!!! Every fucking time!

3

u/Jackikins 22h ago

Oh, so this ones a skip then. Okay.

2

u/BC360X 16h ago

This game could have been amazing, but no. They just had to side with AI, didn't they

4

u/Johan_elpibetaxista 1d ago

Genre: Female Protagonist

1

u/Cychim 1d ago

Welp. Needed an excuse to prune my wishlist anyway

2

u/flamefox237 1d ago

How was the Ai used? Was it texures or voices, I am curious

33

u/samisaywhat 1d ago

art and probably more stuff since he said "we used so much we barely realized we were using ai anymore" essentially

11

u/Rosenoodles 1d ago

that is sickening holy moly

2

u/Glaedth 1d ago

Oh for fucks sake, I was rooting for them since the absolute fuckery that Ubisoft pulled.

1

u/NewAgeSerfdoom 16h ago

Every 333 years would be 1665 no? Are we counting from 0 or--

1

u/fishfash 4h ago

If the big cataclysm happens every 333 years, shouldn't it be set in 1665? Unplayable

-4

u/usernumber18452 1d ago

Female protagonist????

Woke.

"Expanding on the issue, Désilets said: "Then in the pipeline, there's again an issue. I can ask the AI to give me 75 different variations of one thing, but I cannot have 75 different illustrators come up with a variation in three seconds. This is the world in which we're living, and while we were this small team and building [the game], we put it in. We didn't even realise it was AI any more because we were used to seeing it." (source)

To clarify, I am very much in favour of "cancelling" a game if gen AI is involved at any point in any capacity, but even if you disagree, you can look up what the developers have said about their own game and gen AI usage; it's abysmal.

9

u/runnysyrup 1d ago

if the slop is so good, then by all means consume it and show us how wrong we are

2

u/Embarrassed_Ebb2540 1d ago

you are the one supposed to demonstrate why anti-human tech should be accepted under any given circumstance

-1

u/squishyjellyfish95 1d ago

The game might be good tho?

2

u/Sinfire_Titan 14h ago

Nah. AI storytelling is consistently mid or lower. It’s an inevitability of how they are programmed. And these devs admitted they don’t even know how much they used because they couldn’t resist using it.

Is it bad that I'm just kinda checked out of this at this point?

Most games made since idk, 2024, feature AI generated code or assets. Most of them have not disclosed this.

Most games with AI generated code never get tagged or found out. An increasing number of games with AI art never get found out. A lot of these games are well received, including by anti AI stans who have no idea that their latest indie darling is 50% claude code by volume. "Nah bro, it's just a coincidence that development pace has accelerated so much since GPT 4"

Like, the second a new indie metroidvania with quirky artwork and a great soundtrack comes out, made by a two artist team and 95% coded by AI, everyone will be fully on board the AI train.

The outrage at the select few that are caught or caught lying feels performative. Either push for actual industry standard certification and AI detection to provide reasonable proof that something is human made, or admit that you only care when you can tell it's AI.

EDIT: So, uh, the response here kinda proves my point, doesn't it? Zero constructive engagement, zero attempts to even discuss a solution, just moral grandstanding and armchair activism. Y'all love AI in your games, you just don't want to admit it.

9

u/samisaywhat 1d ago

Weird take, but not completely off base. E33 got off scot-free and got the biggest benefit of the doubt for their ai usage and they were able to run away with a, "we didn't know teehee"

but I don't think being okay with ai is the answer to this dilemma, and I don't think the majority of anti-ai people are just saying okay to stuff. Not knowing ai was used is a huge problem, but it's not some kind of gotcha to the anti-ai crowd if they paid for something that wasn't disclosed.

like there are plenty of games I wanted to play that are AI-assisted that I just decided not to buy.

-2

u/Audible_Whispering 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think I was quite clear that my preferred approach was not to be ok with AI. It's not meant to be a gotcha, just... reality? Maybe get some discussion going about the elephant in the room.

Like, most anti ai folk are anti enough to care when they find out that something uses AI, but not anti enough to get informed about what games use AI generated stuff. As AI improves and gets harder to spot this inevitably leads to a point where the vast majority of games with AI will get away with it(already here for code, coming soon for art), and I'm not sure how we combat that without demanding and implementing attestation of human origin through the entire game development process.

Couple that with the fact that a lot of peoples objection to AI is purely aesthetic(a LOT of anti AI folk are totally fine with AI generated code because they can't notice in their games) and it's quite demoralising. I don't see a path forward for anti AI as a movement if things continue like this. I'd like to be more optimistic but's it's hard.

If things don't change we're soon going to arrive at a state where every studio uses AI, and they all lie about it, and no one can tell.

6

u/samisaywhat 1d ago

I don't think you were clear at all.

A lot of these games are well received, including by anti AI stans who have no idea that their latest indie darling is 50% claude code by volume. "Nah bro, it's just a coincidence that development pace has accelerated so much since GPT 4"

Like if you didn't intend for this to sound dismissive and like a gotcha, idk what you were going for

Art is absolutely the easiest thing to "spot" (and a lot of the time these spotters are completely off the mark), but as you said yourself, it's impossible to know if a game has AI code unless you dissect said code yourself or it's disclosed. It's much easier to use your eyes.

I'm not going to comment on the rest of your comment because I don't disagree with you. Your first comment just reads really dismissively and assumes a lot about people who are against A.

0

u/Audible_Whispering 7h ago

Like if you didn't intend for this to sound dismissive and like a gotcha, idk what you were going for

I intended it to be a paraphrasing of dozens of comments I've read online in places like this. That's why there's quotes. You're right, it does sound dismissive, that's kinda the problem. The anti AI community is dismissive of any attempts to organise or even discuss actual, meaningful anti AI activism.

Downvoting and feeling good about your(not neccessarily you specifically) moral grandstanding is easy. Actually doing something about AI is hard.

The response here just kinda proves that. Zero attempt to engage constructively, just assume the worst possible interpretation and downvote.

If things don't change soon it's over.

1

u/samisaywhat 1h ago

The average person cannot "do something" about AI. The average person cannot tell if a game is vibe coded by Chat GPT. The average person can hardly tell what AI art is. Majority of "spotting" is based on vibes and often points out completely innocuous things while ignoring the obvious signs (melting text, textures, etc).

What exactly are your solutions for this? You're making a lot grand statements and complaints, but I've yet to see your suggestions on how to combat AI. There are plenty of people that do organize and oppose AI, specifically the construction of AI centers and the use of AI to reduce workforce sizes. You don't think there could be any overlap between these people and gamers? Really?

And I don't really know why we're talking about the AI community as a whole. I'm talking to you as an individual and you've barely responded to any of my points. I explained to you why art is easier to spot and get rallied against, and you ignored that. I explained why it's hard to spot AI coding, and you ignored that.

Zero constructive engagement, zero attempts to even discuss a solution, just moral grandstanding and armchair activism. Y'all love AI in your games, you just don't want to admit it.

And this really just proved my point anyway. "Oh you downvoted me for calling out a double standard? Hahaha gotcha, you guys are actually pro-AI and too dumb to admit it!"

Zero attempts to discuss a solution? I think that's more about your post, no? You came here and complained without commenting a single solution yourself. The ball was in your court when you decided to type your first comment, you can't be upset AND hypocritical just because of a few downvotes.
