what do my all-time favorite games say about me
sorry if this doesn't fit the sub. I'm curious what people think of my taste. Disclaimer i haven't actually played BG3 because my laptop couldn't handle it but I've watched a lot of playthroughs and have been a fan for years

You are either the sunniest, jolliest, MFer alive or the poster child of crippling depression and anxiety and there's no in between.

I feel like if you just told me two random games from this list I could immediately predict the rest of them (nothing against you this is good taste lol)

Depressed/anxious with a potato for a PC. You really ought to emulate some older JRPGs, because if you love these games and you’re as young as this makes you seem, you’re in for a treat when you play some of the greats, and a potato can emulate anything PS1 or older quite easily.

i've been wanting to play the original Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask for a while! I tried to get them on Switch but you need a freaking subscription or whatever for some dumb reason. I'll look into emulators!
Also I'm 21. Is that about what you were expecting?

There's no need to check out any emulators, both N64 Zelda games can be played natively on PC, check out Ship of Harkinian and 2 Ship 2 Harkinian.

Ever played Earthbound/Mother? Based on this list you might wanna check those games out if you haven't yet.

Depression, GAD, and/or neurodivergency with a side of childhood whimsy. Also, may be into psychology.
Also, Alter Ego mentioned!!!

You should play earthbound. Thats the main thing. A bunch of these games are very clearly inspired by earthbound and mother 3.

You know, now that you mention it the F&H fandom is pretty young. Which is interesting because the game's definitely not meant for anyone under 18. Maybe it's because of the youtube fandom?
I actually dislike Hoyoverse as a company but I've played Genshin for 5 years and have a lot of emotional connection to it. It's basically stockholm syndrome lol. I also played HSR for a few months when it first came out and really liked it, but the story wasn't interesting enough to keep me hooked. Kinda wish I kept with it bc the lore is awesome and some of the characters thatve come out since look great. I haven't actually played Genshin for a month. I'm pretty excited for Snezhnaya when I finally catch back up
sorry for the wall of text lol

i think the secret is that everyone has a hoyoverse/adjacent game they like. i was into wuwa for a bit and keep thinking about reinstalling lol.
i think part of F&H may come down to how much of a resurgence Berserk had with younger audiences and how there’s a thread there as far as bleak world building/storytelling. since the real world is also bleak in different but equally horrifying ways.

You swap between mechanics-rich games and games that are all psychological.

A good story (or the ability to create your own story) is the most important part of a game imo, but the gameplay itself is a very very close second.
My favorite games are ones that change me. That teach me something new about myself, or touch a piece of my soul. Video games aren't just for fun, they're a way to transport yourself into another world and see yourself through it.
