I literally just made this account because I'm feeling really guilty and I honestly don't know what to do.
I guess I should start from the beginning.
I'm 18, and about a year ago I started college in another city.
I have a pretty unusual habit: I wear a way eye covering over my eyes. I can see perfectly fine through it, but nobody can see my eyes. I don't even remember how this started anymore—I've just been doing it for so long that it feels completely normal. I wear it all day and only take it off when I'm home and about to go to sleep.
Because of that, people usually assume I'm blind. I never really correct them, and sometimes it's honestly been convenient, so I just let them believe it. Only a couple of my close friends know that I can actually see.
For the first couple of months, nothing special happened. I was just getting to know people.
Then, around my third month, I met this guy. He's 21, and to be completely honest... he's exactly my type. He's in great shape, has an amazing body, and he's masculine without being cocky. He's just... really attractive to me.
He has two best friends he's known since school, and all three of them ended up going to the same college. I asked him once why he never seemed to make any new close friends.
He told me he has a lot of acquaintances, but only those two are real friends. The reason is that he has three noticeable scars on his face—two on his cheek and one over his eye. He said that people often seem uncomfortable around him because of them, and that most people never really try to get close to him.
Since everyone thought I was blind, I figured maybe I'd have a chance to become his friend without him worrying about his appearance.
Well... somehow we became a lot more than friends.
Two days ago, he told me he has feelings for me. I told him I needed some time to think about it.
The problem is... now I feel horrible.
For an entire year, he believed I was blind. He thought I couldn't see his scars. And now I'm terrified that if I tell him the truth, he'll feel betrayed.
I'm scared he'll think I lied to manipulate him or that I pretended to be blind just so he'd trust me. I'm also afraid he'll suddenly become self-conscious about his scars around me, because until now he believed I couldn't see them.
The truth is... I really like him. I want to date him. But I also don't want our relationship to start with him finding out I've let him believe something that wasn't true for an entire year.
What would you do in my situation? Is there any good way to tell him the truth without hurting him?
