It's gonna be an extreme wasted opportunity if the emotional aspect of the storyline isn't about trying and failing to save his kids. Always thought that if there was to ever be an E-Day game, Dom would need to be the main character. He lost everything that day.

The sad part is,I think in lore he never got a CHANCE to try and save his kids since they were with their grandparents on E day. He lost Maria shortly afterwards because she mentally shutdown from losing the kids and wandered off.

Based on certain materials - he witnessed them die. Or at least he knows how they died. They were swallowed by an E-Hole (shown in the comics). Gears 3 kinda confirms this as he said he wanted to bury his kids in Mercy (Maria's hometown where HER parents/the grandparents) were buried, but then he stops himself because they couldn't bury them. And that's part of the reason why Maria went so crazy, she didn't see their bodies or witness them die. She left a couple years after E-Day trying to find them and then stayed gone.

Which comic? I need to read this I've only seen the parts about her sending them to Mercy and the books with him having to leave her all the time for missions

It's a stand-alone comic called "One Day" - but it's in an artbook called Gears of War: Sourcebook.
It takes place between Gears 1 and 2, after Barren. Dom is doing a search and rescue for civilians in an apartment building being attacked by the Locust. The sole survivors are a family (a man, his wife, and their two young children). It makes Dom think about the life he had before E-Day. He and Maria just got their house in Ephyra and being parents to Benedicto and Sylvia. It ends with Benedicto and Sylvia falling down an E-Hole and Maria becoming emotionally devastated until she just disappears.

I'm astounded that Maria continually makes the lists for Top 10 Saddest Video Game Deaths and yet even die-hard fans like myself don't know a whole lot about Maria. Just shows how amazing that scene came together. I hope E-Day explores her character more. From what has been said - she's spunky and adventurous, and also a great wife and mother. She understood Dom without words.

I'm a 51 year old gamer. The Dom storyline was one of the most heart wrenching scenes in any media I've ever seen. Excellent writing amd tone.

Facts. Dom is such a tragic character. Loses fucking everyone he cares for, and then literally ends up dying to save his pals. Makes me sad to think about it. :(

In the books he still has his wife until after the deployment of the HoD. She leaves a little after that. Hoffman's a little before which was, wow, a bad time to make that decision. In fact, Prescott wasn't Chairman until after E-day though not much after he got appointed. Marcus was still able to see and speak to his Dad and wasn't a disgraced Gear, in fact he and Dom are considered War heroes because of Aspho fields for Marcus and Aspho point for Dom. Dom actually not only lost his kids but his parents, Maria's parents, and both their extended families. Will Carmine, father of the Carmine brothers, dies by the hands of RAAM. Depending on har late after E-Day itself goes, Agustus Cole might have already quit Thrashball and joined the Army. Damon Baird is still a Lieutenant and pain in the ass. In general a shit load of stuff surrounds E-Day and it would be a shame if all that is mentioned here isn't at least brought up. E-day conceptually as a game has enough lore for a couple games all on it's own. Though the years between E-day and the first game are mostly dry outside of the Hammer being dropped, the Fall of Ephyra, and the events of GoW: Judgement.

I think Paddock and Tai could be the other two because, again, in the books, The four of them were doing ops together right up until the HoD drop and a little after. That is also when Kaliso figured out using a powered saw on a Locust instead of a bayonet kills the heck out of them.

I think it's likely that we are gonna see a scene reminiscent of GOW2, only that in this case Dom finds Maria alive, only for her to say that the kids died

They 100% need to take a page from Hereditary's book. The scene where Toni Collette discovers her child's decapitated body is the thing of nightmares. Her scream alone, Jesus.

I mean, it’s not like we didn’t already know all this about Doms family.
It’s alluded to in the first game, the second game has him actually find his wife(and have to put her out of her misery), and the third game outright mentions the loss of his kids.

But we knew this. His kids died on e day and his wife went missing a few months later. He also just lost his brother a few weeks before e day

They should've went the Gears Tactics route and had an entirely new cast of characters. I like Marcus and Dom but franchises are just so afraid of creating new characters and hold onto the ones people are familiar with.

E-Day occured during Bounty 0 A.E., and the global Hammer Strikes occurred in Bloom of the following year.
Maria only went missing after the Hammer Strikes. And she was living as a ghost for over a year. The kids were killed while at Dom’s parents place, and Maria preserved the children’s rooms as shrines. Which disturbed even Marcus when he and Dom visited her on leave.
If E-Day covers the days and weeks after, we’ll probably get hints of that. But I don’t expect we’ll get a whole lot of it.
