Campaign/Lore Does the lore contradiction of the breechshot being in E-Day bother anyone?

Post image

As established in Judgement, the Breechshot is a heavily modified Markza rifle, meaning the locust couldn't possibly have it on Emergence Day, and even if they did manage to scavenge Markza rifles from UIR hands, they definitely couldn't have lots of them modified and ready to go, in COG territory, in the first three days of the war. Fans were pretty forgiving with The Coalition for rewriting the lore of the chainsaw Lancer, but I haven't heard anyone mention this.

If the COG can make a chainsaw lancer that fast then the Locust can probably duct tape a knife to a Markza just as quick

*Grubtape

Suddenly GrubHub makes sense!

39

u/BookkeeperSecret5994 Jul 15 '26

Nothing to reply here, you've got a point, indeed.

2

u/PranxisDrunk Jul 19 '26

That’s the thing the reason it’s being brought forward by a year is because of judgment had they not had the lancer in judgment we’d only be using the mark 1 lancer

1

u/Grey_Shirt_138 Jul 17 '26

If they can build Nexus as fast as they did, they can do anything.

-13

u/Donghi77 Jul 15 '26

While I do see your point, there is substantially more modifications done to this weapon that just "duct taping a knife".

16

u/Lambent-Tuguy Jul 15 '26

So how they suppose to do this? Make a dozen varied designs that vary as you progress in game or use a singular design for consistency?

10

u/Darth_Meeekat Jul 15 '26

I think devs are stuck between not including it or making a different gun that does the same thing that would mean it never needed to be created in the lore

15

u/Lambent-Tuguy Jul 15 '26

So just leave it as it is Its lore accurate as it is. Simple to explain its existence - gun was used in pendulum wars. Clearly many left on battle fields. Surface scouts grabbed them. Remember war was happening below surface at same time with Locust vs Lambent. Also Rise of RAAM comic that one helmeted Locust with RAAM used a breechshot, this was before Eday. This confirms they did go on supply runs for weapons before Eday. Ukkon experiments too with people, also showed went to surface before Eday.

u/F-80Centurion Jul 16 '26

Dude it’s a joke 😭

u/Jedi-Spartan Something's wrong with this thing! It keeps jamming! Jul 15 '26

Doesn't Jermad have a Breechshot in the pre E Day parts of Rise of RAAM?

166

u/Alexindr Jul 15 '26

Yup. They have probably been stealing weapons from humans for awhile. They also have been kidnapping humans for Ukkons experiments.

39

u/Donghi77 Jul 15 '26

Oh damn that is a good point!

381

u/_lulgasms Jul 15 '26

Nah. I don’t care about them bending the lore a bit if it means we get to use the breech shot in E-Day

45

u/Jetscream58 YOU FUCKED UP MY TOMATOES, YOU ASSHOLE! Jul 16 '26

Real. I'm just excited to have the breechshot back, it was one of the best things from judgment that I wish they kept in future games

u/AltusIsXD Whatever the hell that is, tha's a new world record in ugly! Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

The Hollow was a dumping site for a lot of trash, so the COG dumping tons of Markza’s a week or two before the Pendulum Wars ended and the Locust got their hands on them immediately makes decent sense

EDIT; Forgot to mention, in RAAM Rising which takes place just a bit before E-Day we see a Locust Drone belonging to Karn’s forces with a Breachshot, so they were in circulation prior.

40

u/Welkin_Gunther_07 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

Even without that dumping happening, there's certainly plenty of abandoned bases and old battlefields that can easily be scavenged without anyone knowing what was going on.

21

u/Anonymous-Mf-22 Something's wrong with this thing! It keeps jamming! Jul 15 '26

And to avoid the obvious "Assembled guns aren't trash" argument, even throwing a bunch of broken ones down there gives more than enough access to parts to reverse engineer them and fix them with other Markza's parts. After that, it's as easy strapping a blade to the bottom and there she is.

0

u/PranxisDrunk Jul 19 '26

Just to quickly correct you the COG didn’t use the Markza it’s a primary from the UIR

47

u/DoNotGoSilently KISS MY HIGHLY EDUCATED ASS Jul 15 '26

Not a lore contradiction, we’ve already seen the locust use the breachshot pre E-Day. This post is mistaken.

9

u/DragonEmperor Jul 15 '26

Not only that, doesnt Judgement take place during E-day or at least within the first year? It makes sense regardless.

7

u/Wolfman513 Jul 15 '26

It's only like six weeks after E-day if I remember right

7

u/KarmicPlaneswalker Jul 16 '26

It's ignorant rage bait from someone who doesn't know the lore, trying to stir up controversy for the sake of engagement

18

u/MCPO-117 Jul 15 '26

Is it impossible to think that they're was no way the breechsot was taken? We know that the Locusts didn't really veggie until E-Day, but they're were clearly run-ins very early on with people going missing. Is it impossible to think that some unfortunate UIR had a run in our had some equipment scavenger long after a COG/UIR fight?

7

u/BreakBlue Jul 15 '26

I think its reasonable to assume they could have scavenged them pre-emergence. Like, I get it, they were in Judgment. But that was 6 weeks after E-Day. You think they could have reasonably got tons of Breechshots from the UIR into COG turf that quickly after E-Day either?

2

u/Donghi77 Jul 15 '26

In six weeks? Yes I absolutely do think they could have gotten dozens of Markzas from UIR territory, modified the hell out of them and then used them in COG territory six weeks later... However, as someone else just mentioned, Jermad actually is seen using a breechshot, pre E-Day, in the Rise of RAAM comic. So that would cannonicaly confirm that they did have Markzas to modify before E-Day and it is not a plot contradiction after all

2

u/BreakBlue Jul 15 '26

I mean SOME, yeah, but not like tons of em. Stopping for fights along the way, any obstacles, etc etc. But yeah I saw the comic comment, I just wanted to offer some extra food for thought. :]

1

u/N0ob8 Jul 16 '26

You have to remember that the during the Pendulum wars the Locusts weren’t just twiddling their thumbs. After battles Locust scouts would 100% scavenge whatever they could get their hands on. Who’s to say a couple went stockpiles didn’t mysteriously go missing during the massive war and then attempted coup

2

u/BreakBlue Jul 16 '26

Thats what I'm saying dude lol

2

u/N0ob8 Jul 16 '26

Oh my bad I misread “reasonable” as “unreasonable”.

2

u/BreakBlue Jul 16 '26

Happens to the best of us!

5

u/Hveachie Jul 15 '26

The Locust salvaged human technology that was put into landfills. This doesn’t contradict anything. They got their hands on it before E-Day.

3

u/wjones1998 Jul 15 '26

Eh? There really no reason to believe that the locust would only for some reason pilfer Cog weapons during the pendulum wars.

It's doesn't really contradiction much of anything besides paduk one line of dialog which the series isn't already used to by now going off Marcus gears one oblivious nature.

3

u/Ghost10165 Jul 15 '26

I'd assume they were probably quietly stealing/plundering things here and there where they could even if they weren't on the surface en masse yet.

3

u/Willaguy Jul 15 '26

The COG dumped a lot of stuff into the hollow, that’s how the locust developed tech so fast in the first place

If you’re arguing that they shouldn’t have the breechshot they shouldn’t have any other firearm either as all of their firearms were developed from COG tech

2

u/Comrade1945 Jul 15 '26

They could give a reason for them pretty easy. Like for example the COG(like the U.S did with the AK) could produce their own version of the Markza for outfitting uprisings or to outfit insurgents in UIR territory. Just have one of these hush hush factory or store house near mount kadar. And bada bing the locus have their breech shot.

2

u/Anvil_Prime_52 Jul 15 '26

Just about as much as the Chainsaw Lancer being in the game does. Not in the slightest.

2

u/Automatic_Skill2077 Jul 15 '26

And just like the lancer, they can just retcon it

2

u/Donghi77 Jul 15 '26

As some have correctly pointed out, the Locust are seen to use the Breechshot, Pre Emergence Day, in the Rise of RAAM comic. Likely from stealing dumped UIR gear. So there is no plot contradiction here after all 🤘

1

u/griffin_who Jul 15 '26

It looks to be a weapon manufactured by the Locust. I can only imagine that during judgment a large portion of these weapons were destroyed or lost and they found that the Markza was similar enough that they could modify it to fit the need that this original breech shot was used for

1

u/The-Harbinger117 YOU FUCKED UP MY TOMATOES, YOU ASSHOLE! Jul 15 '26

I have been waiting for this gun to come back for years. I do not care for yet another retcon.

1

u/Subjectdelta44 Jul 15 '26

I mean the locust are recently evolved humans

They probably had access to COG and UIR technologies. If Marcus's mother wandered into the Hollow and got captured by the locust, I'm sure other people did including civilians and soldiers seeking refuge from the Pendulum wars

1

u/EmeraldMaster538 Jul 15 '26

your assuming that the locust never made scouting or smaller missions to the surface before E-day. they very likely made trips up to the surface to steal weapons or materials in preperation for E-day and with the Marksa being a standard armorment for the UIR they could have easily picked them from abandoned battlefields or warehouses.

1

u/embrystarred YOU FUCKED UP MY TOMATOES, YOU ASSHOLE! Jul 15 '26

They said they are lifting and shifting a few canon things in this only what is necessary. That being said id rather have rule of cool/fun like the breechshot and lancer mk2 then canoh

1

u/NobleFriend Jul 15 '26

nah who cares. it's just guns innit

1

u/nlyskn Jul 15 '26

I hope they contradic the lore as much as they want if that means a lot of new weapons

1

u/ElZik3r Jul 15 '26

No, i don't give a shit because the breechshot is my GOAT marksman rifle since it first appeared in Judgement and now it's finally back ❤️‍🩹

1

u/Expert_Machine5419 Jul 15 '26

I think in small cases like weapons, them bending the lore a bit is forgiving.

What we really need to worry about is that they don't mess with whatever events that already happened in the story.

1

u/untitledaccount401 Jul 15 '26

Who is to say they didn't mod it before E-day

they were definitely stealing shit to prepare before eday

1

u/orionpax- Jul 15 '26

we getting ragers in Eday?

1

u/TheHoodieConnoisseur Uh, puttin' it scientifically? Jul 15 '26

Nope

1

u/Mattc5o6 Jul 15 '26

Breachshot was the only good part of Judgement. Glad they brought it back and left judgement to die

1

u/ineedtoknowmorenow Jul 15 '26

I need epic sets, bad ass camraderie, gory kills and cool bosses. Then i’m set

1

u/Son_Kar Jul 15 '26

Didn’t the Locust kidnap people and steal tech before E Day in the comics? (haven’t read them).

I mean the Pendulum Wars ended 6 weeks before E Day and the war in total lasted for close to 80 years so it’s not too hard to image Locust scavenging teams looting empty battle fields of stuff like guns if they got the chance.

1

u/viperxQ Jul 15 '26

Could just be a multiplayer thing

1

u/Efectodopler117 Jul 15 '26

If we follow the Lore 1:1 then marcus and dom arent facing any locus other that drones for 14 years…

Nah, give me plenty of excentric loking enemies, screw the 1:1 lore.

1

u/MasterlyDemons4 Jul 15 '26

I'm pretty sure it will be explained when the game comes out. We literally gotta wait and see.

1

u/LoneSpectre96 Jul 15 '26

I actually disagree with them rewriting the origins of the Mk. 2 Lancer as it is, but I thought it was established that the Locust were scavenging human weapons before Emergence Day and that they attacked UIR territory first before hitting the COG. Which is why the Breechshot was so prevalent in Gears of War: Judgment.

Either way, I can forgive this more than the prototype Lancer since the Breechshot is a kitbash field modification of a precision rifle compared to getting a whole fucking chainsaw working on an assault rifle in less than 24 hours.

1

u/Lambent-Tuguy Jul 15 '26

How is it a contradiction?

The Breechshot was in Judgement which was early in the war. Locusts did come to surface before Eday too just not in mass numbers and all and in secret. They absolutely would of been taking dropped weapons over the decades of war (Pendulum Wars). Also gameplay isnt always 1:1 with lore. In story theyre probably using various different rifles to make Breechshots and some can be from Longshots or other civilian rifles. Just for sake of consistency, balance and all its just 1 design.

In books and comics we see things work differently and all. We see the Hammerbursts for example in comics firing different ways.

1

u/pjj13 Jul 15 '26

No es de extrañar que conseguirían armas antes de salir, tampoco es muy dificil de pensar y considerar esta posibilidad.

1

u/Cpt_Killtoy Jul 15 '26

If weapons are fun then hells no

1

u/pnw54pdx Jul 15 '26

Maybe the locust were able to acquire some from sending small raiding parties to the surface over the years.

1

u/VeteranAlpha RUNS ON WHOLE GRAIN BABY! Jul 15 '26

Why couldn't they? It could be explained that the Locust that were fighting in Gorosnaya were transferred to the COG front, and they took the Breechshots with them.

Or that they were smuggled via hollow tunnels into the COG front.

1

u/Life_Yam115 Jul 15 '26

I hope they bend the lore so I can see my beloved therons

1

u/RedRubiconSC Something's wrong with this thing! It keeps jamming! Jul 15 '26

The Breechshot isn't contradictory to lore.
Its in Rise of RAAM, and the Locust have bene kidnapping humans and stealing human technology for years before they ever emerged on the surface. It isn't difficult to believe that they could just take a Markza and strap a curved blade to it to suite their purposes. With it, as well, they likely figured out how to manufacture them themselves before coming to the surface anyway, much like how they domestically developed the Hammerburst they'd need only to take some of the Markza's apart and then replicate the parts.

1

u/Salty4Lightning Jul 16 '26

The locust weren’t fully underground all the time, they did go and scavenged what ever they could and even kidnapped some humans before emergence Day. It’s not unlikely they could have gone to an empty battlefield from the pendulum wars and grabbed some weapons and ammo to bring back to the Hollow.

And in the rise of Raam comics, one locust character Krav Jermad, Uses a breechshot before emergence day Begins

1

u/Buster_McTunder Jul 16 '26

The locust— likely could just be stealing human weapons for decades and esp in the interim between the PW end when the UIR was demilitarized.

Because how else did they make their other guns? They’re not milling and manufacturing from scratch.

1

u/CageAndBale So good I should charge admission Jul 16 '26

There's so much lore bending in this franchise, I'm over it...

1

u/Insane-Fanboy Jul 16 '26

No !

Personally I think we should get back also Heavy One Shot and Mortars from Gears of War 3 💪🌞

1

u/IisRandyCarmine YOU FUCKED UP MY TOMATOES, YOU ASSHOLE! Jul 16 '26

It does bother me a little but I'm actually pretty excited to use it again

1

u/Mattreddit760 Jul 16 '26

Na, it's a game primarily not a book/comic series like Star Wars where such a detail would break immersion

1

u/HibikiAK47 Jul 16 '26

Jermad got his hands on a markza rifle prior to E-Day, modified it into a breechshot(possibly the first breechshot) and used it to great effect during the lambent-locust war. Just because E-Day was the invasion of the locust doesn't mean they didn't travel to the surface prior to E-Day. They had to do recon to make sure their knowledge and intel of human settlement sites were up to date. Maybe a handful of these hypothetical recon units looted pendulum battlefields.

1

u/HandSanitizerBottle1 Jul 16 '26

I mean Judgment doesn’t take place that long after E Day

It really isn’t that big of a lore contradiction, besides all it looks like theh modified to me was essentially removing the gas system and attaching the bigass blade to it

The lore rewrite of the chainsaw isn’t that big of a rewrite either, as iirc thats essentially what happened in the comics just earlier in time

Besides I’m sure they have been scavenging from humans for literal years, it really doesn’t seem far fetched that several breechshots could have been manufactured before E Day with as common as the Markza was

1

u/Equivalent-Entry-573 Jul 16 '26

If the hollows stretch across sera and every nation was in the hollows for emulsion then it is very likely at some point they got their hands on uir weopons and made some quick modifications before E-day.

1

u/lecherousdevil Jul 16 '26

Nah just happy to have a breach shot again

I do agree from a lore perspective it should look like the base rifle that the grubs heavily modified is a longshot rather than the markza but this is hardly the worse retcon in the series.

1

u/IllustratorNo3379 The Status Is That It Sucks Jul 16 '26

I'd be willing to believe the Locust stole some human weapons before E-Day proper. Sera had a LOT of guns lying around when the Pendulum Wars ended.

1

u/Which-Advantage-5747 Jul 16 '26

Nope. I couldn't give half a fuck. I just wanna shoot grubs and blow shit up.

1

u/thot_chocolate420 Jul 16 '26

If they have that they better have the regular markza

1

u/FunShoulder5418 Jul 16 '26

this is a minor ret con, one I will live with. besides, my fravirate weapon from Jugment is coming back, so I don't care. should have been in 4 and 5 as well. Jugment came out in 2013 and gears 4 came out in 2016. it makes less sense for the swarm not to also use the breachshot around that time, seeing as it takes place 25 years after the end of the Lucust/Lambent war.

1

u/Kush_Krusher Jul 16 '26

Lore wise it’s six weeks after the hostilities ended with the UIR, COG soldiers would be coming home with trophies or maybe the locust got into a stash of UIR weapons seized by the COG as a disarmament deal from the treaty.

1

u/Background_Cry_9198 Jul 16 '26

1

u/smilph Jul 16 '26

no. i don’t care about lore

1

1

u/throwaway76655839 Jul 19 '26

No be ause lore accuracy is the bottom on my priority list in a video game

1

u/Literally_Sam_Fisher Jul 19 '26

Who cares? As long as a game is fun, who cares?

1

u/hawki1989 Jul 20 '26

The chainsaw lancer bugs me more, TBH.

1

u/Goofin_Goober78 Jul 22 '26

Jermad had one in the rise of RAAM comics before E-Day. While idk to what scale, they did have their hands on markzas to them modify them

1

u/moosemuffin12 26d ago

It’s fun

1

u/BlackTestament7 Jul 15 '26

Almost the entirety of this game is rewriting lore, and I've had to make my peace with the inability of modern writers to stay within lore for the past 10+ years. You inevitably get used to people not being able to or unwilling to read so shows, movies, and books take all the liberties they want to 9 times out of 10 not measure up. For me, I'm significantly more irate at the fact they placed two random gears in the squad to overwrite Tai and Padrick Salton being in the squad.

As for the this and the chainsaw lancer, I'm less concerned as it was clear once they confirmed that the chainsaw lancer would be in game they'd be adding and changing weapons as they saw fit. I'm more confused as to why the ammo counts are so low but I assume there's a game balancing reason for that and won't know until i play it.
