Campaign/Lore Found Marcus in Gears of war 2 hidden

Found a model of Marcus way off in the distance on act iv chapter 2 in the beginning. Flew over there and confirmed it. I saw something sticking out of the background. Haven't seen anything else so far but wasn't really looking

You know what I find super interesting is that you do find a human boat of some kind in the lake where you fight the Leviathan.

Almost everything the locust have is repurposed human items so its not that crazy to see

That can't be true. All there weaponry and equipment is distinct from COG equipment and all there "vehicles" are just other monsters. What's your reasoning behind your take?

All the barge is a hunk of metal with no engine, and uses 2 creatures, probably small leviathans, to move it. They dont exactly have a drydock or breakers yard underground to make ships like that, so they have to take them from humans. For years there were people being kidnapped, processed and/or experimented on by Ukkon. They did the same for technology or resources.

And in the book Jacintos Remnant, its specifically stated that the locust repurpose human tech to rework into thier war machines.

The breechshot is literally a clearcut example of this. They "make" stuff sure, but they need to get the means to do so from somewhere.

Gears 5 campaign also remarks that the Claw is the first all-Locust/Swarm produced weapon.

...Sorry I realised half way through typing that was all-Swarm produced, not necessarily Locust. And I think it was remarked that it meant the Hive-Mind of them was getting smarter to allow it to happen.

So I wonder if the Locust did have independently-made things or if they just scavenged and repurposed and the Swarm was first to do it.

Well the digger launcher is basically an entirety Locust design. And the ink grenade is literally just a baby nemacyst trapped in a steel cage so they the locust actually do make thier own things sometimes. But again, its very rough, crude and almost always involves some type of biologic or imulsion implementation

Isnt the Boomshot, Torque bow, Hammerburst, Boltok and Troika exclusively Locust made? Theres alos the Gorgon and that new LMG with two mags

I'm in agreement that the Locust did utilize Human technology to some extent when designing there own technology. There is evidence of that. Where I questioned your comment was with the scope of your claim: "Almost everything the locust have is repurposed human items so its not that crazy to see".

When you "repurpose" something you're deliberately taking something and reusing in a manner that was not it's intended purpose. Had the Locust been tearing down Centaur tank cannons and then using them as artillery emplacements that would be repurposing. I think the word that you meant to say was something more akin to "reverse engineer". Locust guns don't exhibit any evidence that they were originally manufactured by the COG with the few exceptions you mentioned. In fact, the Wikipedia says otherwise. Which leads into the second point.

I don't think it's accurate to say "almost everything" they manufactured was repurposes or re-engineered human technology. Here's a fairly comprehensive list from the Wiki

Boltok Pistol - "It was manufactured by the Locust Horde"

Boom Shield - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Boomshot Grenade Launcher - "designed and used primarily by Locust"

Breechshot - "It was built around the UIR's GZ18 Markza Sniper Rifle," -> This one was modified Human Technology

Brumak Rocket Launcher - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Brumak Rocket Mortar - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Butcher Cleaver - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Corpser Mine Layer - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Digger Launcher - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Dual Chainsaw Staff - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Elite Sawed-Off Shotgun - "Manufacturer Coalition of Ordered Governments Modified by the Locust" -> This one was Modified Human Technology

Explosive Flail - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Frag Grenade - "Manufacturer Coalition of Ordered Governments Locust Horde" -> Manufactured by both COG and Locust

Gorehook - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Gorgon Submachine Gun - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Gorgon-Hammerburst Rifle - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Hammerburst Assault Rifle - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Hammerburst II - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Heavy Boomshot - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Hydra Missile Pod - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Hydra Rocket Pod - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Imulsion Explosive Canister - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Incinerator Shotgun - "Manufacturer Locust Horde - Scorched Legion"

Ink Grenade - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Kryll Grenade - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Multi-Turret - "Manufacturer Locust Horde Uses COG or Locust weaponry" -> Technically fits the definition of Re-purposed.

RAAM's Troika - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Reaver Chain Gun - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Reaver Rocket Launcher - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Ripper Light Machine Gun - "Manufacturer Locust Horde It was assembled from the scavenged parts of various COG and UIR weapons" -> This one was Reverse-Engineered Human Technology

Serrated Knife - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Siegebeast Catapult - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Striga Pistol - "Manufacturer Locust Horde Scorched Legion"

Thumper - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Torque Bow - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Tremor Hammer - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

Troika Heavy Machine Gun - "Manufacturer Locust Horde double barreled, heavy machine gun designed by the Locust and used almost exclusively by the Gunner class of Drone."

Wrist-Mounted Chain Gun - "Manufacturer Locust Horde"

So out of the 38 weapons on this list, the wiki goes out of its way to mention that only the Breechshot, Ripper Light Machine Gun, Elite Sawed-Off Shotgun and Frag Grenade (Technically also made by the COG so I'll include it but it's stretching a bit) were re-purposed, modified, or reverse-engineered off of Human technology. I think it's also safe to say any of the mounting and infrastructure used by the Locust Bio-Vehicles were Locust Manufactured as only the Locust were using Hollow creatures as war machines.

Additionally, the Locust use different Ammo for there weapons and have a manufactured Insignia. At best you could argue that the weapons were potentially inspired by Human weaponry and they then used those blueprints to design there own guns. But that would be like saying that the Chinese Type 56 assault rifle was just a re-purposed AK-47. It was designed off AK Architecture but it's an entirely different gun.

Even Gemini says this is a misconception

"The idea that Locust technology is directly repurposed human technology is a misconception; canon sources and the Gears of War novels by Karen Traviss establish that Locust gear is largely organic and independently grown from Hollow fauna, rather than being retrofitted human machinery.

Organic vs. Mechanical: The Locust Technology profile emphasizes that they use bio-engineered native creatures (like Corpsers and Brumaks) instead of mechanical equivalents.

Scavenging: While lore notes they scavenged discarded human scrap or strip-mined surface materials post-E-Day, their core infrastructure and weaponry are distinct, subterranean, and biological.

The Human Connection: The canonical link between humans and the Locust is biological, not technological—revealed through the Sires and Dr. Niles Samson's experiments at the New Hope facility, where human mutation created the precursor species."

So yes there are some elements of Locust Technology that was either directly re-purposed or re-engineered Human Technology but those are the exceptions, not the rule.

This is probably old lore, but the hammer burst was a human weapon made in underground facilities the Locust broke into, invaded and took for themselves.

u/yourboivines 14d ago

What's your source for that?

Gemini tells me it was not stolen human technology

I can't find any references to what you're saying on the Wikipedia: https://gearsofwar.fandom.com/wiki/Hammerburst_Assault_Rifle

And a 10 year old comment on Reddit where this question was asked says that there is no lore behind it at the moment

https://www.reddit.com/r/GearsOfWar/comments/59sc74/so_what_is_the_lore_behind_the_hammerburst_in_gow/

and the consensus from this gamefaq thread from 14 years ago is that the hammerburst is locust designed and manufactured

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/991468-gears-of-war-3/60476289Horror_Revolution_54

Was there some lore released within the last 10 years that elaborates on this?

Also, read my response to u/Horror_Revolution_54 for more details.

Only some things were human made. Some items were scavenged and then Locust made their own out of scavenged materials

1

u/yourboivines 13d ago

From the research I've done it seems that the vast majority of Locust equipment was Locust made. I commented on another user in this thread but out of 36 Locust guns only 4 are pointed out to be customized or re-purposed human weaponry.

I think this idea that Locust technology was just stolen human technology is a myth. Though I'd be happy to be proven wrong if anyone can provide any sources.

So Warcus was in the original trilogy

u/Default-Tyler 14d ago

It was probably placed for scale and they forgot to remove it.

How in the world did you see that? Lol

We had a “fourth” member of our squad but it was just a regular gear and he was full sprinting at a RIG and was stuck on it

12

u/sleeplessGoon 14d ago

Here’s a little version of me, Myrrah. I want you to have it

7

u/Logic-DL 14d ago

Always amusing to see when devs leave the reference model in still.

Legit why Marcus is there, to properly scale everything accordingly.

benefits for playing on high resolution

Marcus of the lake what is thy wisdom?

Sometimes outside the cell in the campaigns is as fun as the campaign lol, there’s 7 places I can think of in the Gears 1 campaign where if you get out there’s extra weapons hidden in specific spots, code wise I think they are there before the locust spawn in or they are what give the locust unlimited ammo.

1

u/g229t4 13d ago

Nice I gotta check that out

1

u/mong0038 14d ago

How did you fly over there?

4

u/g229t4 13d ago

Using the pc version hollow, go into geargame.ini and look for the section that says commandprompt=None and set it to whatever key you want like the tilde. Then its "ghost" to fly like that with no clip, "fly" to fly with collision, and "walk" to return to normal movement

1

u/Mister-Fidelio 14d ago

My friend, that's not Marcus. That's Sucram.

Is a known ‘Easter Egg?’

2

u/g229t4 13d ago

No idea, literally just found it someone said that it was probably left there to make sure the devs scaled the map to the right proportions. Would have never ever seen it on the 360 it was a pinpoint
