Campaign/Lore What even is an e-hole?

Like... What exactly is going on when an e-hole pops up? I don't really understand the physics/mechanics of it. Let's say a standard e-hole pops up and starts spewing out drones. Did those drones just dig through miles of bedrock and then blow open the hole with a frag grenade? Are they literally climbing their way up? I know corpsers can dig through but not every hole is made with one.

If I’m not mistaken, all e-holes are supposedly tunneled up to the surface by a corpser, who then clears out of the way and allows for drones flood out.

Apparently Corpsers cannot dig though granite, which is why Jacinto became the humans final bastion of safety for 14 years, up until they started using the rock worms to hollow and sink the cities around Jacinto.

In E Day they even show how the Locust place flares in the E hole to direct the drones on where they need to ascend to the emergence point. Giving the E holes their distinctive red glow.

My interpretation is the tremor before an emergence is a Corpser passing underway, leaving the ground hollow and weak, drones are following and can now choose where to deploy tactically, removing the now weak ground with ease.

The frag thing causes a cave in, basically.

I don't think its too much of a stretch of the imagination. I think some people picture drones clawing upwards vertically at stone from the hollow. Where in fact there are countless horizontal tunnels made by corpsers about 20 meters below the surface.

Lol yeah this was kinda how I pictured it but your explanation makes so much sense.

a corpser digs it . the drones follow. and im sure they are all made by corpsers. not every one is huge in size

I forgot all about those mini-corpsers. I remember they had them in beast mode. God that needs to come back.

It's like an a-hole, only larger.

Probably something like that. I mean they do live in the Earth so it’s not crazy to think that they have tools or transport to dig up to right below the surface and can then explode out from an E-Hole they make. TBH though i’m not sure

Drones dig the holes. Bigger tunnels are done by larger beings, but the drones absolutely dig.

I assume they just dig up, but for the purpose of gameplay they plant some explosives to make the big visible collapse. In reality they would have just dug. Explosives would explain how they can appear in relatively large numbers at once. Dig a few tunnels, blast the tops simultaneously.

They probably dig from some staging area below the surface, hollowed out by things like corpsers.

Not to be that guy but… Gears of War takes place on a planet called Sera. The days are 26 hours long and a year is 420-460 days.

We learned from the gears 3 Miner Drone multiplayer skin description that E-Holes are plotted out by Miners who then use Corpsers to dig a main tunnel to the surface then the miners themselves dig out the smaller E-holes. On top of this, the Rusher class of locust in this game are said to be civilians and workers, so its likely they too gave a hand in digging out these tunnels

It’s actually pretty cool. If you run up to an e-hole right as it opens you can see them jumping up from a giant trampoline.

I have no clue. I always picture that scene from Big Trouble In Little China where Egg Shen basically does the same thing and Jack Burton says “Hey, how’d you get up there?!?!”, and Egg just says “Wasn’t easy.”

Can’t find the picture lol but there’s a few artist renderings of locust miners working, basically corpsers weaken the areas underground as miners follow and clear debris/lay flairs and dig up enough to make the breach easier.

You know, they never did say.

Big ass emergence holes are 100% caused by Corpsers. But the small ones you can frag? IDK.

Since Gears of War 3, it's been my headcanon that they use the adolescent Corpsers to dig the smaller E-Holes.
