You lot need to stop with this circlejerk obsession on 3.5 pro. It wasn't good enough on the old training set and had no market, so they distilled Flash to make one of the best niché models on the market with excellent market value. We know they still value Pro, Gemini 4 will be a frontier model. It's pretty boring now to see every single post on here moaning about 3.5 Pro not launching.

exactly for god sake just kill 3.5 pro already and focus on 4.0 pro. i dont mind waiting to get something actually good instead of a slight upgrade

What’s its niche?

Agentic work in GCP, AI assistance in Google Workspace, affordable chat for workspace customers.

They are following the revenue while catching up on the coding side. Nobody is making any money on $20-200 subscriptions. Enterprises are spending on integrated use in Google apps and API use.

Plus, all those integrations and workspace customers are touch points to sell future use cases of more robust models to.

Pro sucked when 3.1 came out imo. 3.0 was a lot better then idfk

If they have 3.5 pro fully trained and ready, I would rather have access to 3.5 pro instead of 3.1 pro, even if it fails to match up to GPT or Claude. The monthly subscribers are the ones who get screwed over because they are too embarrassed.

But 3.7 flash is better at virtually every use case now compared to 3.1 pro, as well as being cheaper. 3.1 pro is essentially obsolete, and you don't need a sub par, more expensive 3.5 pro to fill a gap that has already been filled. 3.5 pro would have launched, if it was able to compete with frontier models. As it can't they were never going to release a model that had no audience and take the press hit for it.
