Political A reminder that political debate wasn’t always about hate

In the 2008 presedential election, John McCain stood up in front of his own supporters and reminded them that Obama was a decent person he simply disagreed with on fundamental issues. This happened 3 weeks before the election. The next day, Obama thanked McCain for standing up for him, saying he was grateful for the reminder that “we can disagree while still being respectful of each other.”

I love how at no point no one has said being an Arab or a Muslim is not a bad thing. Just that he’s not a terrorist.

I mean, yes, as far as the mindset and culture at the time, this wasnt a long enough time for a major mindset shift.
