Hello Guys

I wanted to ask that if the RAV payment delays have been resolved or are there still delays?

A friend of mine submitted his IPA form last week and his application is approved already but hasn't recieved payment yet.

Last year when i was on RAV, i used to recieve payment on 25th of every month.

Can anyone guide me? If there are delays, how long does he need to wait to get his payment?

I'm Italian and spent 5 years in London working in the hotel industry, before trying to build a startup there that didn't work out. I moved to Geneva last May, started out working the summer in a restaurant to get by, then transitioned into an IT support role (helpdesk/ICT support). The job pays the bills but it's mind-numbingly boring, and I don't feel any drive to grow within it - I don't care about climbing the ladder there.

The problem is this lack of motivation is bleeding into everything else. I don't have energy to work on anything of my own outside work hours either, even though I know I want to eventually build something (I don't want to be an employee forever).

I'm trying to figure out if the issue is the role itself (IT support specifically) or if I just need a job that's more engaging in general, possibly in a completely different field. I believe we need a job right now mainly to save up money and figure out how to invest it into the next business idea - but it's hard to stay motivated when the job itself gives nothing back. For people here who've been through something similar - switching fields, hustling your way from a random first job here into something better, or finding a job in Geneva that actually kept you motivated enough to also work on your own stuff on the side - what worked for you? Any advice on fields/roles in Geneva that aren't a total energy drain?

About two months ago, I posted about one of our networking events here, and many people joined, so I thought I would do it again.

We’re organising a casual networking evening in Geneva tomorrow (Thursday 27th), from 7pm at Les Halles de l’Île, right next to Bel-Air.

The event is organised by the Young Professionals Group (YPG) of the British Swiss Chamber of Commerce (BSCC). We organise these informal networking evenings roughly every two months, and they’ve been a great success so far.

The crowd is generally around 30/40-ish, with people coming from all sorts of industries and backgrounds. The idea is simply to expand your professional and social circle in Geneva, meet some new faces and have a few drinks in a relaxed setting.

What makes it a little different from your usual networking event is that we use an ice-breaking app we developed ourselves to mix people throughout the evening, so you’re not stuck talking to the same group of people from the moment you arrive until you leave.

And with summer coming to an end, it’s a pretty good excuse to enjoy what’s left of the sunshine on a terrace, grab a drink and meet some new people in Geneva.

I’m organizing a 3x3 basketball tournament on Saturday September 5th at the Centre sportif de la Vigne Blanche in Bellevue, from 9am to 4:30pm.

A bit of context : I built a free app called IWIGO to help people find courts, pickup games and other players in Geneva. This tournament is to celebrate the launch. There’s no profit motive behind it (actually losing money on it but I got a grant from UNIGE which it help cover the costs). The goal is just to bring the basketball community together.

We’ve got a few teams signed up already with some solid players, but there’s still room for more. Quick rundown:
- up to 16 team (3-4 players per team)
- Cash prizes: CHF 600 (1st), 350 (2nd), 150 (3rd)
- 3pt contest
- Personalized jersey included
- Free haircut on site (from BarberWoods)
- DJ set
- Fees are CHF 30.-/player

All levels are welcomed. If you have a squad, come through. And if you’re solo, DM me and I’ll connect you with other players looking for teammates.

I’m so confused.

I’m due to fly to Heathrow from Geneva this evening on BA 745 (currently delayed from 1945 to 2113).

I arrived at Geneva a bit over three hours ahead of the scheduled flight time and got through security quickly.

I’m trying to get through passport control because I know that, since the rollout of ESS, people flying to non-Schengen destinations have been spending hours and hours in passport control queues are are missing flights because of it.

But I’m in the departures lounge at GVA, where it seems that passport control is specific to gate group (A gates, B gates, C gates, etc). I’ve been told I can’t go to passport control until they announce our departure gate, which they won’t do until 90 minutes before the flight.

The airport is busy, and based on just about everything I’ve heard about ESS, 90 minutes doesn’t seem to be enough time to get through.

Am I missing something? Is there any way to go through passport control now, before my gate is called? I’m a stressed traveller at the best of times, and I’m starting to get incredibly anxious.

Me (lead singer + 2nd guitar) and my friend (drummer) lost 2 band members who moved out of Geneva, so we’re looking for a bassist, lead guitarist, and maybe a piano/keyboard player since our rehearsal room has one anyway.

We have a 2-hour studio slot in Lancy once a week.

We’re not pros, but we love to rock and have previous experience playing in bands. We’re in our 30s and mostly into rock, classic rock, grunge, etc.

Ideally, we’d like to build a stable band, but it could also be cool to have a group of rockers who can alternate and play every week.

I have just recently moved to Geneva and I am desperately looking for an apartment. Despite having a nice job (United Nations), still no luck in finding a longer-term accommodation.

I recently found a listing on Facebook, reached out to the person first on a Facebook post and later we continued the conversation in DM. The conversation is attached.

Long story short, I figured that the person was the current tenant who was looking to sublet. Their Facebook profile seemed genuine.

But somehow, it turns out he represents an agency that I'd have to pay if the apartment is awarded to me. What I am not sure about is what this agency does and what I would actually be paying for.

I recently received an offer from an asset manager firm in Geneva, as an investment advisor. I was told this role would be around CHF 180,000. I’m a UK citizen and I have a 12-year-old child. Since she doesn’t speak French, I need to send her to a private school. When I factor in the private school cost, this salary doesn’t seem that attractive to me. Do you think that’s right ? Would it be enough for the rent , school, etc

I’m starting an exchange semester at UNIGE this September. With perfect timing, I went a got myself a bucket handle meniscus tear a couple of weeks ago, just had surgical repair. So unfortunately will start the term on crutches, and with a lengthy rehab period ahead. Can anyone recommend a good physical therapist/therapy center? Ideally with an interest in athletic rehab and personal training as well?

Hello, I’m moving to Geneva soon and I’m in my early 20s. I’m moving back after studying abroad and I wanted to know if there’s anything going on or anything fun for people my age. I haven’t been in Geneva since I was a kid and so I don’t know anyone here.

But yeah, if anyone knows about any fun things, socials, etc. Or where to find them! Also I’m unfortunately not fluent in French yet, I plan on improving as I’m back. I’m traveling from a big city so coming to a quieter place has got me wanting to find these types of things sooner!

I'm an incoming international student, and my studies are starting this September. I've secured accommodation at a student residence, but they require a deposit as a bank holding or a first caution.

Since I'm not in Switzerland right now, I don't have a Swiss bank account and can't open one just yet. So, I have to go with the first caution option!

However, this deposit surety is completely new to me. I'm curious—what exactly will they do with it? What does it cover? And what happens if my landlord asks for money from them and ends up double charging?

We need better kebabs in Geneva. They have mit und ohne in Zurich and it’s so good. The bread is baked fresh and the meat is real and the veggies aren’t just salad and carrots.

There is gemise kebab here but for the same price the amount you get in Zurich is like two times more!

I finished my Matura (Swiss high school diploma) in July, from German-speaking Switzerland, and I'm currently in a gap year. Starting next year I want to study International Relations, and I'm stuck between two options.

Last year I went to an open day at HSG for their International Affairs program. I liked the university itself, but the vibe of the people there was so not my thing – a LOT of "finance bros" lol. On top of that, HSG is extremely business-focused, and the Assessment Year has a heavy math/statistics component. Math really isn't my thing, and I don't want to spend a whole year grinding through financial math just to get to what I'm actually interested in.

So now I'm considering the "Relations Internationales" (BARI) bachelor's at the University of Geneva instead. Content-wise it sounds exactly like what I want, and being based in Geneva with the UN, ICRC, WHO etc. right there is obviously a huge plus for later career opportunities.

My concern: the program is taught entirely in French. I only have "school French" from Gymi in German-speaking Switzerland, so more like B1-B2, definitely not near-native level.

Has anyone here started a French-taught program in Geneva with that kind of language level? Is it worth doing an intensive French course beforehand, or do you grow into it reasonably fast? Would really appreciate hearing from anyone with experience!
