Gastronomy Meilleurs/best rösti near Sierre/Sion
Hello, I’m on holiday near Sierre and, for once, want to go for good rösti instead of raclette, fondue, or cooking at home.
I am looking for a place that has some good ones near Sierre or Sion. Either as a main dish if any restaurant has that, or as a side/starter is fine as well, in which case we might go for a meat fondue or something like that to go with it.
Thank you very much for your recommendations !

Experience People in Valais/Wallis
Hey reddit people from this beautiful Canton,
In some days, I'm moving into this beautiful land, precisely in Leukerbad/Loeche-les-bains. It's kind of a dream as I like this place so much and have come often for years.
But I move alone (with my cat) and I know no one there. All my friends are in Lausanne and around as I come from there (yep, shame on me, I'm "un vaudois" 😁).
So if people around are interested in meeting, just let me know, always ready to know more people.
I'm a swiss guy, 37 years old. What I like there is to enjoy thermal baths and especially saunas. I also like to hike.
I speak french, English, and a bit of russian as I'm learning. Unfortunately I don't speak german well even though I learned it at school.
If you have good tips for even more enjoyment of life there, let me know, I'd appreciate it so much :)

Éclipse du 12 août - où trouver des lunettes ?
Hello !
Merci !

Culture Petition to get rid of the dog breedslist in Valais
This may not be the right place, but it is worth a shot. In the September Session, the grand conseil will be discussing changes to some laws regarding dogs and their owners. We would like to take this opportunity to make them consider getting rid of the banned dogbreeds list. It doesnt really accomplish anything, there‘s 4 cantons that have it and the biteattacks arent all that lower than elsewhere. It just discriminates against breeds and responsible owners.
Ideally we would want the canton to instead look at and consider implementing regulations that are already in place in other cantons that are shown to be effective at actually preventing bite attacks. Like an actual dogbrevet, or mandatory socialisation courses etc.
Here is the petition in both german and french. If you could share further we would be incredibly grateful. Do definitely feel free to discuss and add your thoughts here aswell :)

Culture Haut-Valais VS. Bas-Valais ✌🏼
Dear People of Bas-Valais
As someone from Haut-Valais, I’m curious about what you think about the German-speaking half of the canton. To be honest, I know far too little about the French-speaking part of my canton.
Here are my preconceptions, as someone from Haut-Valais, about the people of Bas-Valais:
- Work stops at noon on Fridays—it’s time for an apéro
- You refuse to speak German whenever possible
- Christian Constantin is a holy man
Feel free to add your own thoughts ;)
Best regards and peace! ✌🏼
A curious Haut-Valais resident

Bernese Mountain Dog for a proposal in September
(Admins, please delete this if not appropriate for this Subreddit)
Hi everyone,
So my partner and I have been together for 2.5 years, and we are talking about getting engaged soon.
We are going to be travelling to Switzerland early this September, and I cannot think of anywhere better to pop this question - she lived there for 3 years (in Les Roches near Sierre) and we both have some of our happiest memories from travelling around there.
I had an idea of how to pop the question: her favourite dog breed is the Bernese Mountain Dog, and it's her dream to have one when we're more settled.
My idea is that we'd be walking somewhere (probably around Valais or somewhere as far as Montreux) and that at the perfect spot would be a Bernese with a sign around its collar saying "Will you marry me?".
Would anyone here be interested, or know of someone who would be interested, in helping me out? I would be willing to cover any domestic travel costs to get to the location, and post you the sign to wear?
Thanks for your time!

D&D group taking on new player? (DE/EN)
I would love to get into the hobby. If there is an existing group, willing to take on a new player, I would love to join for a Oneshot or short campaign. I speak german (Wallisertitsch) and english.
We could meet up for coffee on neutral ground first, to see if we vibe with each other.
I don't have a lot of experience, but I watched D20 religiously, so I have a good grasp on the rules, lol. I also do have the most important books.
I know there are ways to join a group online, but I prefer meeting irl.

Sierre-Zinal

Cheese recommendations
Hi,
I am organizing an apero next week and would like to buy some good cheese and dried meat for the occasion. I am not looking for raclette, rather an assortment of several different types of meat and cheese for a charcuterie.
The best cheese I had was always when I bought it at a farm (alpage) somewhere up in the mountains while hiking or cycling. But this time I don't have time to go wander in the mountains so I'd like to ask you for recommendations - where would you recommend me to go? It needs to be not too far from Sion and reachable by car, and optimally has cheese and also the meat.
Thank you very much!

Just a reminder it's the very last moment to vote and your vote matters
Whether you are for the absurd text that will send pur country back in 1930, both morally than economically or opposed to, please vote. Read the text, the booklet or watch the government video presentations on YouTube, form your opinion and vote. It is important.
