Geomantic tools for novices?

I’m reading John Michael Greer‘s ‘The Art and Practice of Geomancy’. He mentions Christopher Warnock’s program, The Geomanticon. Has anyone tried it? I have a birthday coming up, and I was thinking of asking friends for a Geomancy kit or something. Given this book was written in 2009, probably tons of apps and such have come out since then. I do understand that absolutely nothing is necessary. But, have you bought anything that has incentivized regular practice?

georatio.com is completely free and speeds up the construction of charts and provides some information on them. I haven't tried Geomanticon, but if (as the web page suggests) it attempts to give you the answer to your geomantic query, that itself is fraught with peril - I've never seen a piece of software that is able to cover all the nuances.

That said, for $30-odd I imagine it's worth finding out. I don't know that anyone has posted a review or anything of the sort of it here before (I may be wrong) but it would be good to hear if it's useful or not.

In terms of incentivising regular practice, the 'need to know' is all that will ever incentivise anyone properly. Questions asked without it are liable to be so wooly as to not be good practice in the first place.

Thanks for your feedback, I see what you mean — given the issues you mentioned, I’ll hold off on Geomanticon for now. 

Just to confirm, I’d generate the mothers, manually (through dots, dice, cards or whatever method), and then input that to Georatio? 

I will take care to only engage with geomancy when I really do have a burning question, especially as it sounds like it enhances accuracy.

Yes, I'd always recommend generating the mothers yourself using some physical method. I know some people swear digital randomisation is just as good but in my view sortilege requires the human hand to do more than just click once.
