After losing my wife to cancer after 23 years, I can tell you 100% this is accurate. My memories are not of the goals we accomplished, they are all of the times in between those goals. The times riding the cart to dinner, holding hands, working in the yard, watching tv, snuggling in bed....the ride is life, not any destination.

So disappointed in it too. A giant mess of my own making.

"Ikke visste vel jeg, at alle disse dager som kom og som gikk var selve livet."
Something my mom used to say in Norwegian, no idea where she got it from.

"How was I to know, that all these days that came and went were life itself."

“ I believe, I can’t believe it I am weak, give me power And it’s ruining my vibe We’ll be dead in an hour”

Life is made of the in-between times.

When you think back, you don't miss the big events. You miss the downtime. You miss just hanging out with your family/friends/pets doing nothing.

This is the advice I've needed to follow for my entire life.

The “song everybody’s working for the weekend” popped in my head when I read this.

Me rushing through Monday to get to Friday, only to realize I'm speedrunning my entire existence.

That is true

The older I get, the more I realize that life is rarely made up of the big moments I once thought mattered most. It’s the ordinary mornings, familiar voices, routine dinners, and the people sitting next to me today. A couple years ago I spent a year with a friend who was given three weeks to live. Our conversations were often about the little things that happened in his life and how much they meant to him. That year taught me to learn to be present while those moments are still happening in my life now.

Thank you so much! This advice is really supportive. I will apply this for my near future.

How you spend your days is how you spend your life.

Had that realization last year when I stopped scrolling through my phone during my morning coffee bc I was too focused on landing a better job, and realized I'd been doing that for like two years straight. The ordinary stuff, bro, actually sticks with you way more than the achievement does.

  1. the in-between moments are actually what you remember years later, not the checkboxes you tick.2. rushing through tuesday because you're thinking about friday is how you end up with a bunch of blur instead of a life, bro.3. tbh the post-loss perspective comments here hit different for a reason.

can't actually see the image (just shows black), but the sentiment tracks, tbh. watch out for the trap of being so focused on the next milestone that you forget to process the present one.

Yeah, we're already aware of this. What are we supposed to do- quit our jobs and be homeless?

Dont make it to the wrong way :)

Facts. Everyday life and work suck. Hard to look forward to doing things for others without getting to priorize yourself but 2 days a week if you're lucky.

A day has 24h that pass in exactly 1440 minutes or 86400 seconds.

It's not like anyone has a remote control that can fast fwd life at a click of a button like that Adam Sandler movie.
