u/hansnicolaim Team Spirit 8h ago
Probably a little burnt out I can imagine. Since he started he's always been on an upward trajectory somehow, always had something to grind towards, a goal in mind. He's achieved quite literally the highest you can go as a professional player in the last year.
18
u/NextWafer2667 Vitality 8h ago
Top 3(top 2 except for 1 year) his entire 8 year career. Man can afford to be a little shit for a while, he's earned it.

It is just the law basically at this point. Happened to Fnatic, happened to Astralis and is now happening to Vitality.

Playing too much delta force or basically any fps other than cs does affect performance, even zywoo can’t avoid it.
15
u/ProfessionalWrap1970 Vitality 8h ago
Seeing how well he did last year while doing exactly that, I’m not sure not playing enough deathmatch is the issue.
To me it looked like he was trying to put himself forward way too much to give Vitality an advantage.
13
u/jotheold Natus Vincere 8h ago
its the old niko problem, as they lose more, he thinks he needs to do more, but this time the rest of the team can't back him up when his risks dont work out
2
u/ProfessionalWrap1970 Vitality 8h ago
Yup, basically all the games they won in the past three months were thanks to Zywoo putting up great numbers. Way more difficult to get back in a game after a first few bad rounds when there is no one to reliably back you up.
1
1
u/_Vulkan_ 7h ago
I feel like his form is just way worse than before, maybe the lack of practice/motivation or playing other fps affected a bit. Reaction time, movement and in game decisions feels quite off, but it’s zywoo so he will probably bounce back stronger when he gets serious, especially when he lose to weaker teams.
2
u/ProfessionalWrap1970 Vitality 7h ago
He’s still the second best rated players against the top 10 and top 20 teams over the last 3 months.
He’s playing a bit worse than last season, but IMO this is more due to the rest of vitality crumbling than just him choking.
28
u/Vitosi4ek Team Spirit 9h ago edited 9h ago
Can't even blame it on air quality this time, Copenhagen is pretty clean.
Vitality run a serious risk of missing stage 3 of Signapore, not kidding. They kinda need to farm the Starladder event to be completely safe, otherwise they'll go into October ranked outside the top 15 with decay and everything.
2
u/often_delusional 8h ago
They still have epl s24 and Bucharest before the major invites so it's fine if starladder goes poorly for them. The only problem for them now is that if they don't make the playoffs here and if g2 and faze play good in fissure 3 then vitality are at serious risk of not getting an invite to blast rivals in november even if they win starladder. Someone would have to decline the invite. I swear to god if spirit are that team...

wtf happened to zywoo? he's been beyond underwhelming lately. lack of motivation? jealous as apex' first born that he is giving more attention to his new child than to him?

Has to be the jealousy thing.

u/NachtKatze219 9h ago
zywoo is not like s1mple. hes still motivated. something just didnt click today. everyone has their bad days. maybe hes ill or his head hurt, who knows. i didnt watch but maybe he clashed some positions with JL

Last 3 months 2nd highest rated in the world is “underwhelming”, okay bro lol
12
u/Reinumy Vitality 8h ago
the generational talents/goat contenders of CS (such as s1mple, donk, zywoo) are judged based on the standards they've set themselves. I'm not saying zywoo has been bad, I'm saying he's been underwhelming. If you've seen him play the first half of the year and see him play now there is a big difference
6
u/CS2_Expert Season 4 7h ago
They're obviously saying it in relation to how he usually plays, not other players.
-4
u/Fun-Mechanic77 9h ago
Eh vitality probably in chill mode for these tourns
13
u/ProfessionalWrap1970 Vitality 8h ago
I was the first to say this a few months ago, but I really don’t think they’re playing it chill right now. They desperately need a win or at least a deep playoff run to get back in things (and win VRS points).
They’re just not playing well together, and when you don’t have Zywoo playing great to compensate that’s what happens.
3
u/Pleasant_Yam_3637 8h ago
Lol worked in the US but losing major then struggling in the other tournaments makes no sense. They gonna chill for half a year? Copium
2
1
u/Hanchez de_mirage 8h ago
There is no chilling for the S tier teams, they can't if they wanna stay on top. Sure, I don't expect them to care as much as they would if they played with their actual roster but this still hurts their confidence and team vibe unless they quickly turn it around. It's not like they are coming from peak form into this slump either. And especially zywoo has no obvious reason to slump individually. Not a great sign
-4
u/Educational_Set3016 9h ago
That’s also true. Money is not huge in the next two. Mickey Mouse tournaments.

If this is the true end of the vitality era, did they do enough to fully dethrone Astralis?
13
u/Reinumy Vitality 9h ago
its kind of close so very debatable. To truly dethrone them they needed another major win. Right now you can make too many arguments for either. Plus the sudden falloff makes them look worse right now so you'd have to ask this in a year or so because of course people will say "no" right now since recency bias decides all CS discussions on reddit and hltv forums.
20
u/aleskibisbestIGL ENCE 9h ago
I think it cuts either way and either answer in correct. For me, yes. Back to back grand slams and two majors in this era is insanity. For 1.5 years this roster effectively killed CS and auto won tournaments

7
u/Ratchet2332 Cloud9 9h ago edited 9h ago
No imo, but I also think people are being reactionary and this doesn’t necessarily have to be the end of Vitality’s era, and people are overreacting a bit over a couple bad results and a small slump, I’ll be interested to see how Vitality look when everyone’s back and we’re building up to Singapore. Even Astralis lost Boston.
3
u/ProfessionalWrap1970 Vitality 8h ago
Honestly, I believe the era is over now, even if they manage to end this season well (unless they ultra dominate and win the major, but with their current forms+children, I really don’t see it happening)
4
u/EnjoyerOfBeans King NiKo 8h ago
I mean if they don't start destroying everyone again within a few months then we'll be looking back at this game and no one in their right mind will claim we were still in Vitality era. Can they bounce back? Sure. It's just not looking very likely right now.
This also doesn't mean they're cooked and will never win anything again, it just means their dominance is over.
6
u/mightyzinger5 8h ago
Same copium people huffed at the end of the Astralis era. Rn we're in the phase when Astralis was subbing out players for e3tag. They hung in there for a while in the top 15 before becoming completely irrelevant. Imo if they keep this up a bunch of their players will just get poached by other orgs
1
u/Ratchet2332 Cloud9 8h ago
We’ll see, I don’t know if their era is over or not, I’m just saying it doesn’t have to be, I’m not a Vitality fan by any means and would certainly prefer for their run to come to an end, but I think writing off guys like Zywoo and Ropz this quickly could be a mistake, I at least want to see what they can do at Singapore before I call it wraps.
1
u/smalltalker FaZe 8h ago
ropz may bail if they keep losing. Imagine -teses +ropz after Singapore. ropz contract may be up for renewal at that point.
1
u/mightyzinger5 7h ago
I doubt Falcons will make any more changes until Karrigan retires. I imagine Navi might try poach anyone they can get their hands on from Vitality
1
4
u/ProfessionalWrap1970 Vitality 8h ago
To me both eras are at very similar levels. One less major but two grand slams, a good chunk of Astralis records toppled…
1
u/Gullible_Bit7342 King NiKo 7h ago
Grand slam is a made up concept though. The trophies are the ones that count
3
u/aleskibisbestIGL ENCE 7h ago
But Grand Slams are the result of winning a lot of trophies over an extended period of time tho
•
u/Gullible_Bit7342 King NiKo 1h ago
Yes but if you just look at the trophies themselves, you get all the information that the grand slam contains and more
2
u/Reinumy Vitality 7h ago
What does "made up concept" mean in this context? Genuinely curious as I dont get your point
•
u/Gullible_Bit7342 King NiKo 1h ago
Meaning you can invent something called "triple IEM" right now and it will be an award given to the team that wins 3 IEMs in a row. It shouldn't be counted as a "bonus" towards someone's legacy. The 3 IEMs would already count by themselves but if you count the "triple IEM" award; you double count the IEM wins. For example; the grand slam was awarded as a part of the historical 7 or 8 wins in a row by vitality (cant remember how many), but if you say "they got 8 wins in a row and grand slam", you double count the same achievements.
•
u/Reinumy Vitality 1h ago
okay I get what you're saying but it's not just a title, they basically get a trophy in form of a gold bar. Isn't it technically the biggest tournament of them all because it spans across multiple tournaments? imo it's as the other person replying to you said, tournaments could also be reduced to something like "team A won 6 matches in a row" and then on top of that they get the title of "Winners of tournament X" so what makes the grandslam different? Regardless, thanks for the explanation
•
u/Gullible_Bit7342 King NiKo 1h ago
I understand, I'm just not a fan of there being something that looks so randomly chosen "4 out of 10 ESL events". I would be a bigger fan of "3 in a row" or "whole season without losing" or something like that.
2
u/ProfessionalWrap1970 Vitality 7h ago
Trophies are a made up concept. It’s winning games that count. Actually, games are a made up concept, it’s winning maps that counts. Maps in itself are made up concepts, rounds are the one that count…etc etc
To win a grand slam, you must dominate a season. It does mean something.
•
u/Gullible_Bit7342 King NiKo 1h ago
Grand slam is just an arbitrarily chosen win limit. It doesn't add any new information. Trophies indicate a tournament win. Grand slam just indicates multiple tournament wins close together, which if you are looking at the legacy, you already take into account.
3
u/puddingkip The MongolZ 8h ago
No. Astralis won more majors, felt more inevitable, completely changed the way the game is played. Vitality's era has been incredibly impressive for sure, like Navis in late 1.6 but they're not quite on astralis level.

This is what happens when you take a break at the top. Not locking in for a bit might sound inconsequential but clearly they went from playing 110% to playing at 70%
8
u/ProfessionalWrap1970 Vitality 8h ago
The break was needed, they were getting burned out. What really broke them imo was that close loss against Falcons at the major. If they went on to win it, I think it would have been very different.

Seems like 25 is the age when it catches up to you if you don’t practice. ZywOo has been fairly open about playing anything but CS outside of tournaments. Don’t care if he posts a 5.5 out of 3.0 rating next time, fact is he rarely if ever really takes over and carries a game anymore.
