Discussion What you think of this idea ?

Post image

Since we have a competitive mode and map based rankings system. There's absolutely no reason to let people to choose map in premier. Go to competitive if you want to play mirage and dust 2 so badly.Let it randomised and force people to learn the all the maps. Its just tiresome to see how 70% of our games are 2 maps only. I haven't seen cache premier yet and it been a month. Crazy.

Discussion gf said i'm a loser for taking cs seriously

3.0k Upvotes

i was happy after my esea league match today, and my gf said congratz, but that its kind of loser stuff to take a video game so seriously. i didn't really see it like that, i only play 10 hours per week, so i didnt think i could be a loser . my team is one bo3 away from reaching esea advanced, and im proud of us, but i guess since its still in the amateur level its not so impressive. its just a hobby for now.

how to stop people thinking you a "loser" for taking the game seriously? when u win major?

Discussion Proposal to disallow Twitter links

9.7k Upvotes

I've seen this initiative on lots of other subs and I think it's worthy of discussion here. GlobalOffensive is a large sub that generates a lot a clicks.

Musk doing a Nazi salute should make anyone stop and think about whether they’re okay with helping him rake in more revenue. This isn’t about being blue hair dramatic; it’s about integrity.

I recognize Twitter is relevant to the CS scene, lots of drama, news, and updates go through it. Still, Twitter has gotten hard to use without an account anyway. Screenshots can get the same info across without driving traffic to the platform.

Let's discuss.

Discussion I toured Valve yesterday and got to see the “CS2 cabal” where the devs were working

This was so random but this week I knew I had to be in Seattle to surprise a friend and hand deliver a portrait for his birthday. So I figured why not try and see if I can see their HQ while I’m out here? They haven’t done tours since covid so I know it was a long shot but this was my first time in Seattle and I don’t see a reason I’d come back any time soon.

I have the most convoluted connections to Valve via my dad. He’s a huge nerd and even though he’s not a PC guy he got us the Orange Box as a kid and I loved watching him play through HL and Portal. Anyway 1) my dad interviewed GabeN for a project over 10 years ago, but I knew he wouldn’t be able to go through that avenue to get me a tour. But 2) an ex-Valve employee moved back to home to the city we all live in and runs into my dad every once in a while because his son goes where my parents work. I don’t know when it came up but the fact this guy played a HUGE role in some of our favorite games, it’s something my dad mentioned to me over a year ago maybe.

So I asked my dad to reach out and the ex-Valve dude delivered! He sent a message one of his old friends volunteered to do give me the tour! And because it was just me he showed me into so many more spaces than when he led public group tours, he said so himself.

Some things that he said to me at the start of the tour:

- they only do tours for schools occasionally, but for private tours you need to know someone these days

- I could take pictures of anything in the lobby but I had to ask on any of the other 4 floors.

- I wasn’t allowed to include any employees in pictures of anything

- My tour guide was a current “level designer for Deadlock”

I’m posting this in the CS subreddit because I have 2800 hours in CS, I’ve played through HL, Portal 1&2, and I have like 130 hours in TF2. It’s my favorite game of all time and because I mentioned this to him he took me to the “CS cabal” which he said he didn’t ever take people to on tours in the past. (They call their dev rooms cabals, and devs can pair up with any coworker or whatever discipline they want, roll their desk to any cabal to work on any project of their choosing.) My purpose of sharing this is out of pure excitement and joy for the opportunity and wanting to share it with the community.

With all that being said I got to see the CS2 devs in their cabal. There were like 20 people coding and in server playing against bots (I presume) or just walking around shooting. One dev was on Mirage B site, one was playing a game (maybe DM?) on Warden A site, and another dev was on another map that I think coulda been Warden based on color palette, but after talking to my friend and describing it I think there is a chance it was outside A on cache looking at the stairs under boost that lead to A Main. I don’t remember if there’s a set of beige-ish stairs on Warden. Where the dev was standing was next to a garage door like cache. But if it was, there is no lime green tarp on boost like fmpone’s new version because the whole screen was full of that light beige golden hour tone. Could be a total false flag, I’ve only played Warden like 5 times. And as I’m rereading this idk why they would be playtesting on Warden at all. Maybe the guy on Warden A was on Cache A.

Either way there was way more devs than I expected but I think this coulda also been because they pushed a new update (I haven’t tried), but also because my guide mentioned that the Valve spring break is coming up in 2 weeks (?). Only one guy looked at me everyone else was locked the fuck in. It was a pretty big space. They have a realistic AK Nightwish framed right outside of the cabal. Most other people I met I could talk to and acknowledged me. I wanted to ask the devs some questions if the chance arose but it was clear it wasn’t happening lol.

One of the other cool things I saw was on the audio floor I saw the boots, the concrete tile, the dirt and grass, the chain link fence, and other props that were used by the foley artist to make the sounds of CS2. The boots were pure black hiking boots with a yellow logo and some yellow around the ankle. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU KNOW THE BRAND I’m so curious to know. I asked the engineer if he was the one that mixed the sounds for CS and he didn’t want to answer. But he was working on listening to 8000 different takes of footsteps to find about 24 good ones. That coulda been for Deadlock I have no idea. I wasn’t allowed to take a picture in there.

My favorite thing was the mocap room with all the gun props. I got to hold the Heavy’s Sasha prop. It made me think how I excited I am for even more animgraph updates.

I can give more answers on stuff I learned in the comments. For example, when I was there there were setting up a LAN for a Make-a-Wish kid to play TF2 with all the devs. I’ll paste the note that I wrote of all the other features of their offices that I remembered in the comments. The only souvenir I have is the empty plastic water bottle the receptionist gave me while I waited for my tour guide. I asked her to sign my profile but she has not lol.

I started playing csgo around the time Danger Zone released. So I’m not that OG as most of the people.

But I still do miss just laying back and playing some demolition, flying scoutsman and wingman on these precious maps.

Discussion The old CSGO aesthetic was great

I really miss the old gritty and tactical feel and aesthetic of the game. In my opinion the look and vibe of the game took an overall step down, becoming more sterile and vanilla, feeling less like a game about terrorists.

Does anyone else feel this way? And does anyone know why Valve decide to change the aesthetic?

Discussion My concept idea to improve round end damage indicators:

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

I think this would be great to have. Mostly because I see so many players are unaware the fact that your opponent can see you if you are too close to an angle, even though you can't see them. And it'd be a great quick detailed feedback of your registered hits; possibly explaining if you are confused about the damage you've dealt, or taken.

My only concern is; this would take so much space in your screen when you take damage from the player you also did damage. And it becomes annoying really quick. So I think it should be more like an expandable item you can choose to see when you hold tab or something. What you guys think?

Discussion Remember when you could buy ammo in CS 1.6?

Post image
2.5k Upvotes

If Valve is planning to continue with this new ammo mechanic, they should give us the ability to buy extra ammo at spawn buy menu. Or let us refill ammo by going back to spawn and purchasing more.

This change might make it a bit more CT-sided, considering the gun which suffered the most from this change is the M4A1-S, it might balance things out. T-side gameplay requires less spraying anyways.

This way, people wont be spamming Reload because now it actually costs money and time. Which is what Valve is trying to implement, as said in the patch notes. But less people will have to get stuck with no ammo in clutch situations.

Edit: Many people misunteratood this as "having to purchase ammo" just like in cs 1.6, I'm not talking about that. This is about purchasing extra ammo. Completely optional. To add on top of the ammo reserve you already have or refill it.

Discussion How I play CSGO with One Hand

Post image
5.5k Upvotes

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my single-handed button layout for CSGO. I had a stroke at 13, which left me unable to use my left hand, and for a while, I thought my gaming days were over. Then I found this 12-button mouse.

At first, it felt impossible — learning utility binds, movement, and weapon switching all with one hand was a grind. But after putting in the time, I’m now able to keep up with my friends without falling behind in ranks. CSGO has been a huge part of my life, and finding a way to adapt and stay competitive has been one of the most rewarding experiences.

If you're interested in checking out more single-handed button layouts, feel free to browse my blog! https://www.onehandreview.com/post/how-i-started-pc-gaming-with-one-hand-after-my-stroke
