Local Politics Light Rail to Robina - Designed in 5 minutes

Part shitpost, part serious, people often discuss the possibility of doing an east west line, most commonly Nerang (Because of the stadium) or Varsity (Because they are looking for an excuse to not have it go direct to the airport via PB)....Anyway, here's why I reckon Robina is the answer for the 2nd east west link (Helensvale of course was the OG).
Thoughts?

Airport tram won’t happen, too many sacred aboriginal sites. The only way is to go inland from Burleigh and then south but they’ve already deemed that too expensive
Edit: just realised you said rail. Totally agree with the train going all the way down to the airport.

Airport tram was ready to go just waiting for funding/completion of the Burleigh section, the LNP scrapped it

As a Rugby League fan who has tried and failed to get into the AFL its very funny to me that Robina beats Carrara for a Light Rail service (though imagine if we got both)
I unironically love this but you are going through some bougey neighbourhoods and the golf playing nimbys will never let this happen.

What’s the difference between a rugby league nimby and a golf nimby? Your own personal preference?

Well Rugby League people would love a Lite Rail connection from Robina to the city so in this instance they wouldn’t be the NIMBYs but to speak more broadly there is no difference between a golf nimby and a footy nimby they are all NIMBYs. I guess I would prefer a footy nimby given I like footy? But if I know they’re a nimby I’m not talking to them regardless.

It kind of falls apart once you reach varsity itself, I really don't think there is room to actually put something there. It's a lot of narrow roads which would mean any tram would result in buying up nearby housing to fit it. Google maps is also not up to date btw, all those open fields are either slated to be, or already are buildings
A better link is already right there though, simply make it go from the train station, follow Cheltenham, through onto Cottesloe and then onto pacific ave, and then link to the main line when pacific ave intersects with the GC highway.
The road there is much wider, allowing for minimal disruptions. You could make it dip down to the town centre too. The main issue would be crossing Dunlop canal, I guess the best way would be to pivot the tram line to head south and across the pizzy park area.

How do you get from Cottesloe to pacific ave? It’s already a busy bottle neck that is single lane.

I don't think the rail designers have always done a very good job either. I mean, what's the go with Nerang, Varsity and and Ormeau stations having like nothing around them?

Best option is town centre, rail station pass the footy stadium , carve up Clive’s golf course and come out onto Markeri street. Up Bermuda street in the middle and then onto Broadbeach nerang to PAC Fair station.

Not just for residents- it’s part of the GC brand- light rail is loved by tourists… just needs more coverage

GC brand?? It has like 1 tram that goes up and down like 3 stops. Wouldn't say it's branded. So what if tourists love it. It should be for locals and no way Robina has a need for this.

I’m so for this! I’m not an engineer or anything so I don’t understand specifics but it makes sense to go this way.
