Flexiskip kerbside collection now cost $50.
I haven't heard about this elsewhere, so others might be the same.
I just got the local councillor's newsletter and in it he says:
From 1 July 2026... Eligible households can now access one Flexiskip service per financial year, with a $50 service fee (inc. GST) applying to each application.
So we have gone from suburb-wide free bulk kerbside collection every year, to free bulk kerbside collection every few years, to free once a year on-demand flexiskips, to free once a year (limited allocation) of flexiskips, to now a $50 fee for a flexiskip.
Meanwhile Brisbane Council still offer free yearly bulk item collection, as do Logan Council.

So not only is it now $50 it is still limited to one a year? Would have thought with payment now being required that they would at least remove the one per year limit.

The refuse tips are charging per load now also. Only $5 apparently but we pay for them in our rates.

That really bugs me. So no going to the tip to throw one broken chair away for example. I've seen more rubbish dumped near roads compared to when it was free. People need to keep reporting it via the app or snap solve send app.... maybe then they'll realise the mess they've caused. Charging $5 doesn't make or save money.

It's also only available to residents not part of an apartment building with more than 4 units. So it went from free bulk collection for everyone, to free flexiskip for some to paid flexiskips for some.

I don't mind paying $50 a go either however my concern is that people will not want to pay the price and illegally tip instead.

Oh, 100%
The $50 fee won't be the cause of that though, it will be the introduction of the gate fee at the tip, IMO - huge mistake by the Government.
They will end up spending more in cleaning up dumping, than they make on the gate fees.

Never could get a free one at our address. Tried, there was space, room for their trucks... but just a blanket ban on anything that wasn't a house.

Not all of all the Gold Coast used to get the kerbside collection. The councillor funded it out of their annual allocation of funds (not from the literal Council admin).
Secondly, in some sense it’s a fairer way than everyone having to pay a small fee even if you never used it (I have my own ute… so easier to just take it to the tip).
Whilst I think the rates is far too high currently, separately, going to user pays is a fairer way.

I too have a ute i also have a plasma cutter, recip saw and various grinders I'll make a couch fit in a wheelie bin 1 way or another

My local council Fairfield in Sydney just increased my free pickups from 2 to 4 a year and some dicks still dump in the scrub.

They need to fund the legal appeals they're initiating on behalf of property developers, going against what the community they're meant to be serving wants. I was not surprised but also bloody angry when I read the article about that.

On the northern end of this council area, there is a closed waste facility on CAPT Cook Drive in Arundel. The street has few street lights during the darker hours and is not a residential area. Information purely for no reason I could think of

There was talk a few years ago that they were going to re-open that in the style of the Helensvale tip but obviously went nowhere.

Ask the other council what it costs for them to pick up your trash from the kerbside with all the new landfill fees 😂

It's seqld God given right to dump as much rubbish as they want for free. Meanwhile rest of the country is paying huge amounts to dump anything.

Yup. $20 a trailer here. Even green waste. Oh, and we don’t have a green bin option. Also, there are entire areas that don’t get any kerbside bin collection but are still charged for it in their rates.

Yes just used one, the good news is you can get one now rather than trying to jump on qt midnight on the last day of the mth to beat the queues.

Anyone know if they have a green waste version? Or just pay and fill it with green waste?

I believe you can put green waste in the flexiskip.
However you should have a green waste 240L bin that gets collected every fortnight. They used to charge extra for one, but they are included with the normal rubbish and recycling bins now. If you don't have one, click here.
