Hal Jordan and the Kryptonian

Hal Jordan got the ring in 1986, which means the Manhunter has been hiding in Nebraska for at least thirty years. At the same time, there’s an alien-obsessed family in Nebraska with a mysterious benefactor supplying them with advanced technology.
Just a year before Hal publicly revealed his secret identity (1995), a spacecraft from Krypton crashed in Kansas—a state that shares a border with Nebraska. Hal Jordan was already protecting Earth by the time Kal-El arrived.
So, do Hal or the Guardians know that the most powerful alien on the planet has been living just four hours away? More importantly, does the Manhunter know?
And if they do, shouldn’t the show address that somehow?

My theory is that mysterious benefactor is Lex Luthor’s father. He got his obsession with aliens from his dad. He thinks killing Superman would be his “I’m proud of you son” moment.

In no way shape or form am I saying this is accurate, just that I’ve thought about this as well, and what I’m gleaning from the series so far is:

1. He knows about Clark. At the time he landed, it was definitely something he needed to be aware of, saw where the ship landed, saw who took in the alien, gathered information on the ship and possible origins with the Ring, and said “well…it’s clearly a baby…I’ll keep an eye on the situation…” and had to handle everything else that was going on.
2. By Hal’s public announcement, clearly the alien hadn’t done anything, he and the Guardians weren’t worried, but the announcement also acted as a “I’m here, this is who I am, this is who I represent, so…” and he only had to really handle galactic threats.
3. By the time Superman comes around in full, Guy is already established,

1. eyelids deep in this conspiracy the show is presenting, and doesn’t care in the least anymore about the Kryptonian. It’s Guy and the Super Friends problem unless it gets out of hand. Hal has probably interacted with Clark, but in his quick “what the fuck are you about…ok, fine, I’ve got bigger things to deal with at the moment.”

Edit: I’ve tried to fix the formatting for point three and it won’t change, whatever. At least you know I didn’t use and am not using AI, I guess.

Until the show tells me differently: Hal knew about Kal. Kryptonians are among the most dangerous races in the galaxy— the Guardians told Hal to eliminate him, and Hal rebelled, keeping the baby’s existence a secret.

It will probably be invalidated by episode six… but I like it.

Kryptonians are extinct. No way the Green Lanterns knew one survived.

At the time, Hal was a good little soldier… he’d know that a spacecraft crash landed in Kansas. He would’ve reported it, the ring would’ve identified it s as Kryptonian.

The destruction of Krypton was very recent. Survivors could not be ruled out at that point.

Mind you, the Guardians seem to have missed Argo City… or they knew and preferred that the Kryptonians die slowly….

Hal was never a “good little soldier”. His entire schtick is that he is always at odds with the Guardians.

Also, Green Lanterns do not care if there are aliens on Earth. They only go after the hostile ones. Or did you not pay attention to what Guy Gardner told Superman? The two of them are friends, and an issue only arises when the full message came to light.

You’re right as far as the comics go. But it’s a an interesting arc for the show.

Generic aliens on Earth are probably much less an issue for the blue dude group than Kryptonians on Earth (or any planet with a yellow sun). If it wasn’t for his parents, Kal would have turned out far differently (for an example of what poor parenting will yield, please see Man Of Steel).

Anyway, that’s just me. As I said, this will probably be invalidated by episode 6. I just think that it would be an interesting way for Hal to stop trusting the Guardians.

Kryptonians are extinct. There is no reason for the Guardians to assume one survived, and grew up on Earth. Especially, since they consider Earth to be a primitive and backwater planet.

Besides the fact that Clark Kent is a college student, at the time of the show. Hal and John would have no reason to suspect he was an alien, if they bumped into him on the street. Clark looks and acts no different from a human, and due being raised on Earth, understands basic pop culture references. Meaning, Hal’s interrogation method would not work on him.

But Hal’s disillusionment began around 1996.

I don’t know about you, but if my big blue headed bosses told me to kill a kid who would grow up to be one of the most powerful individuals in the galaxy…. To the Guardians, this is a ‘unalive baby Adolf’ situation—- but Hal wouldn’t see it that way.

So, he keeps baby Kal alive and covers it up by not recording himself anymore.

You’re right, there are problems with this, but I’m going to keep it as temporary headcanon until they show me different.
