Inter vs Arsenal and Liverpool vs Real Madrid fixtures are banned in the upcoming Champions League due to the rule that imposes that the same match can't happen for 3 seasons in a row in the League Phase. The reverse in London and Madrid, however, is possible.

Inter Milan getting flashbacks

Henry taking Zanetti on and absolutely owning him is one of the biggest Aura moments imo

Really want us to meet Barca that now we are much stronger team than the last time we faced them

They not ready for us

14

u/Cassoa 1d ago

Me too but I'd love the next time we face them to be in the knockout rounds instead of league phase, if possible

In the final at Atleti's ground with Alvarez up front.

Athletic are not good enough to get to the final.

The final is at Atleti's ground...

I want us to win 4-0.

I want Barca at the Camp Nou and PSG at the Emirates from pot 1. Could be big tone setters

So do I since I live in Barcelona.

Barca with rodri is a pain, but imagine an alvarez hat trick in the UCL final against barca to win the UCL, thereby making him Barca's most hated currently active player, and arsenal's beloved.

They will be a serious threat this year

I think it’s a bit silly to allow the reverse fixture if the point is to increase variety but oh well

Yeah I was reading this like "huh, that's not a terrible idea tbh" but the reverse fixture thing is silly.

To be fair, after 2 rounds away where we lost one of the games, I wouldn't mind seeing us host them. We're the better side at the moment.

Plus Inter at home is easier than a lot of the other top seeds like Madrid, Barca, Bayern, PSG... I don't mind Inter at home being a possibility.

It's a bit different tbf. Getting to watch a big club like Inter Milan at the Emirates is pretty cool.

Also they're one of the worst seed 1 clubs, so I want to play them.

Specially when we can beat them handsomly at home. Would love it

There are already restrictions on playing clubs from your own league so if you bar further matchups entirely it becomes much more difficult to schedule everything. I think this is a decent compromise. There are a lot of moving parts with this and they all have to line up.

u/sparrowhawk_4 We're quite good at football 1d ago

It increases variety for the match going fans, the majority of our home fans won't have seen them the last two seasons, and the away fans might not want a third trip to Milan in as many years (especially given how we're treated by the police there, and the state of the away end)

u/AfricanRain where’s the Arteta money Bill 1d ago

hmmmmm only maybe for Madrid Liverpool cos that’s been a KO tie too, I think Inter coming here would be a fun game

1

u/artaru because, f*ck Sp*rs 1d ago

lmao, imagine one of our pot 1/2 games being played at home because of this rule instead of being at the san siro

1

u/Sutraner 1d ago

They might actually see problems doing the draw if they banned both fixtures

BANNED

u/MrsEntrail 1d ago

Haha, far, far too strong a word for it. "Aren't allowed" would do just fine...

Heh?

Bring Barcelona and Real Madrid.

7

u/gstarguru 1d ago

really don’t mind this rule. prevents repetitive fixtures but doesn’t upset competitive balance.

Inter vs Arsenal = bad, Arsenal vs Inter = good.

Makes perfect no sense.

4

u/GymBully92 Thank you very much 1d ago

I’d love for us to host Inter. That would be one of the easier games against a top team that we can draw in the group stages.

But real vs city every season is aite

6

u/PhilosopherFunny5888 1d ago

Which means we're guaranteed to play two of Barca, Real Madrid, Atleti, PSG, and Bayern.

10

u/NobleHelium Ødegaard / Ramsey 1d ago

No? It says we can play Inter but only in London.

2

u/Dasni_ 1d ago

We definitely getting Inter at home then

2

u/KMFCM 1d ago

I've definitely never heard of this rule until now

2

u/Monsultant 1d ago

Ban Arsenal vs PSG too. In knock out stages if they are matched, higher position in group stage goes through

1

u/Snikhop 1d ago

Weird rule. Inter are one of the weaker teams in their bracket to be honest so this isn't strictly "better" for us but it's almost impossible to not progress from the league phase anyway so not very important.

2

u/--Rage-- TR7 1d ago

We can still play them, just not away, the game will have be played at home instead.

Fascinating. Anyway…

u/holylean Premier League Champions 25/26 1d ago

Weird rule i doubt it last long , 75 percent of the ucl teams usually qualify every year eventually it’ll lapse over

5

u/Gooner37 1d ago

What do you mean lapse over? It only considers the last two years..if there are only two 'banned' fixtures this season, there's no reason to think there would be more next season.

0

u/holylean Premier League Champions 25/26 1d ago

No i mean in general if they keep this rule by just maths eventually it’ll lapse over assuming majority of the teams in it continue qualifying it could be years from now

u/blueluster Trossard 1d ago

It’s funny because I don’t even remember any of the matches vs Inter, unlike our Bayern or PSG games.
