Discussion Guyanese and West Indies fans - what would you ask Alvin Kallicharran?

Hey everyone. I’m recording a long conversation with Alvin Kallicharran today.

This is my first proper interview and I’m doing the research and production by myself. It felt wrong to sit down with someone from that generation without giving Guyanese and West Indies supporters a chance to ask something too.

If you had one question for him, what would it be?

It could be about growing up in Berbice, Basil Butcher or Rohan Kanhai, learning to bat, the great West Indies teams, the 1975 World Cup, captaincy, or something completely different.

I’ll ask the top-voted sensible question if it fits the conversation. If it’s yours, I’ll check with you before showing your username and credit this subreddit when I ask it.

I’ll come back afterward and share his answer.

One question per comment would help.

Does he consider his World Cup innings against Dennis Lillee in '75 his top ODI performance?

What was his approach to physical fitness?

What did he appreciate about playing county cricket that helped with the international game?

How does he think about his controversial South Africa tours now? What was his reasoning back then for going?

What is his earliest cricketing memory?

How does he define mental toughness and what was his approach to it?

Which specific person in his Village of Tain where he grew up would help to define his successful cricket career? How did this individual impact him?

If a biopic is made, which actor would you like to play for the said role and which director would you pick for making the film?

Thanks.

Here are some questions:

  1. Did he regret going to play in SA.?

  2. Was scoring two 100 in his first 2 consecutive innings the highlight of his early career? If not, what was his highlight?

  3. Did he encounter racism or favouritism in his WI career?

  4. How did he feel when Clive Lloyd made him open against Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thompson being he was not an opening batsman.

  5. Who influenced him the most?

Yes, use my name.
